The stone will not roll back
by Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

“A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious.” - Aristotle

A Re-born Christian, the world’s most powerful president believes: "Behind all of life and all of history, there's a dedication and a purpose, set by the hand of a just and faithful God." His tyranny disguised, he continues his barbaric assault on humanity. One civilization already destroyed with a death toll of over a million and counting, the mainstream media having conveniently sent the Afghan war to oblivion, Mr. Bush puts attacking Iran at the forefront of his agenda. This time, his message from a ‘higher father’ will drown the whole Middle East in blood and leave America bankrupt for decades. All the while the ‘voices’ tell him that he must continue to arm Israel so that the Palestinians can be slaughtered.

It appears that for Iran to prove its nuclear energy is for peaceful purposes is akin to the myth of Sisyphus. Just as the gods had condemned Sisyphus to ceaselessly roll a rock to the top of a mountain, whence the stone would fall back of its own weight, considering it that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor; so the U.S. , Israel, and their allies constantly demand that Iran prove its innocence, the negative, even though the IAEA has stated that Iran of the charges. It has become a futile task – frustrating, and hopeless. Each time, the goal post is moved - the threat of bombing Iran dangerously real. The stone will not roll back; it will fall on 70 million innocent people.

But why?

No doubt America would like to attack Iran using the civilian nuclear energy as a pretext so that it can have more bases given that most desirable for expanding its empire are in Iran. As a comparison, “[t]he Roman Empire at its height in 117 AD required thirty-seven major bases to police its realm from Britannia to Egypt, from Hispania to Armenia”. As of 2005, the US has 16 large, 22 medium, and 699 small bases making a total of 737. The number does not include 20 bases in Turkey owned by the Turkish government but used by both; the espionage installation in Britain paid for by the U.S. and disguised as the Royal Air Force; other secret bases and garrisons established since 9/11. As with Iraq where the oil was an obvious factor, in 2005 the U.S. military upgraded the Balad International Airport so that military flights could fly into Balad and commercial flights use Baghdad International Airport. Balad houses over 250 aircraft (Johnson, 2006).

And of course Israel would be so pleased to see Iran destroyed!

Bush was put in the White House with the strong backing of the Evangelicals. His ‘Devotion’ to religion has cost over one million lives and should Iran be attacked, millions more will die. In a democratic society, every individual who submits to apathy is equally guilty as the man who is in command. Gone are the days when Americans were loved and welcomed, separated from their government. They voted for a man who with the spilling of American lives, allowed the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation and caused the death of so many Iraqis, the total destruction of their country, and their treasures looted. The Supreme Court put Bush in the White House, and by voting for him in 2004, we kept him there. Lest we remove him, America will have no more tears to shed for undone deeds.

Bomb,bomb Iran....bomb bomb iran....

by Antibullshit (not verified) on

1. The regime in Iran is the product of the CIA/BBC coup of the 1978. This regime has survived for 30 years with the support of U.S. and the European community etc...

2. The latest media campaign is to create another atmosphere of fear primarily to keep the oil prices high. It is a political year and Bush and his friends are pushing for additional drilling rights in the U.S. Buy keeping the prices high the public opinion in U.S. is changing for more drilling....

3. Over the years we have witnessed the emergence of a cottage industry with the media. Seymor Hersch is the President and likes of Ms. Ulrich play well in the hands of this industry. My guess is that Mr. Hersch's campain of disinformation is rooted in the intelligence services in D.C.

4. With the failure of U.S foreign policy in Iraq and Afganistan and the opposition of regional powers such as russia,India, china etc...military action is highly unlikely.

5. U.S./British are grooming Larijani to be next "reformer/moderate" face of the IR and after the elections tensions should ease...

by Fred on

CASMII lobbyist says: “When Iran is under attack by the U.S. and Israel on the basis of nuclear, interference in Iraq, and human rights, I will be damned if I add ammo to these two countries who want to destroy mine.”  Essentially you are arguing that the Nuke and interference in Iraq are made up pretexts to attack Iran and have no bases in reality; otherwise you would be validating their bases for attacking Iran.  Therefore the third excuse that you mention,” human rights” violations by Islamist republic must likewise be a made up one without any bases in reality. Too bad multitudes of the Islamist republic’s victims are not aware of this emancipating revelation.

Islamist/Anti-Semites and their like minded lefty allies need to wake up and smell the coffee.

yes dude, last time I checked the dummy "decider" has killed many innocent people in Iraq. The Islamic Republic, good or bad, has to be dealt by the great Iranian nation and it has nothing to do with you. Bush on the other hand is an international threat (a criminal) that needs to be impeached or put in to court. If only we did that to Hitler, Stalin or Olmert, the world would be a peaceful place. Now go laugh at the amount of knowledge that you posses.

Saner world in the 21st century

by Roadrunner (not verified) on

Personally I don't believe we will have a war with Iran anytime soon.

Complain as we will, democracy is still working fairly well in the USA.

Now, if the majority of US citizens were right-wing gun-toting, bible-thumping fearful cowards, then Cheney & Bush would have already attacked Tehran with the population's blessings.

Fortunately, the ape-brain is slowly being forced from the gene pool, so we can still hope with confidence in a saner world in the 21st century.

Let me get this straight. An IRANIAN chose to apply that saying to a US President, instead of the to the entire government of the ISLAMIC Republic of Iran? lol.

You Don't Quit, Do You?

by Kaveh Nouraee on

Soraya, do you realize how obvious you are in your quest to have your cake and eat it too?

1) You claim that you don't like to respond to comments that stem from hate. Fair enough.

Then, kindly explain the venom that is so deeply embedded in your writings. If it happened once or twice, then perhaps we can chalk it up to perhaps switching from regular to decaf, attempting to quit smoking, or simply "having a bad day". But this is your standard modus operandi. Explain why it is to be accepted that you don't respond to comments stemming from hate but in your very own comments, you hate "Zionists" (a word I placed in quotation marks because it has completely lost all of its meaning and is now being used in the same derogatory manner as words such as "kike" and "heeb"), and you abhor U.S. foreign policy. The same foreign policy that has afforded you the opportunity to enter, live, work and prosper in this country. Are you suggesting that you are not subject to the same standards as the rest of society? If that is the case, please explain and clarify the basis of this.

2) You say you will be damned if you will add ammo to the two countries who want to destroy yours. For many of us, Iran was destroyed in February 1979. The U.S., or Israel, or the Saddam-led Iraq of the 1980s could not then and cannot now destroy a country that has been and continues to be destroyed from within, by people who claim to be Iranian, but who are in fact, traitors of the worst kind.

3) The vitriol directed by you towards the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest Washington, DC is a source of confusion that I hope you can clarify as well. What do you see are the differences between what you describe as President Bush's "tyranny", disguised as religious devotion, and the tyranny of the IRI, whose devotion to Islam is so deep that it is used as the basis for civil law in the 21st century? How is that Bush can be so stupid and inept and be so efficient in, to paraphrase, destroying other countries at the same time?

4) The United States military is experiencing a severe shortage of personnel (active combat troops as well as logistical support), weaponry, supplies and other materiel, including aircraft tanks, armor, etc. How is it that you draw the conclusion that the United States wants to launch a military offensive against Iran in order to set up military bases there?

5) The IRI has made it very clear that they wish to see Israel destroyed. Therefore, what position do you suggest Israel take concerning Iran? Shall they permit the IRI, an entity harboring open hostility towards Israel, and widely known as the primary funding source for Hamas, Hezbollah and numerous terrorist organizations operating on the fringes and in the criminal underground to undertake any action they choose against them?

There are only six and a half months left for you to agonize about Bush's presence, before he becomes yet another footnote in the pages of history. And if your wishes were to be realized, and Barack Obama were to be elected, I wonder what you will then use as your excuses.

aaj sr Zeynab, and every one else who hates my "articles"

by Soraya Sepahpour (not verified) on

In a spirit of cooperation, and in an attempt to demonstrate its in October 2003, after meeting French, German and British foreign ministers, Tehran voluntarily stopped the process of enriched uranium; it also allowed the IAEA to carry out intrusive, spot inspections. No country has allowed as many inspection hours as Iran. In the meanwhile, it proposed to operate Iran’s enrichment program as joint ventures with private and public sector firms from other countries; this would ensure that the program remained transparent and could not be secretly diverted for military purposes, at the same time it would maintain Iran’s sovereignty by having an indigenously enriched uranium cycle (source: IAEA Bulletin Online, vol 46, no 2, 2004 “Nuclear fuel cycle: which way forward for multilateral approaches?”) . Although this was rejected, Iran continued to cooperate.

Iran suspended its enrichment activities for two and half years, but each time under pressure from the U.S., the burden of proof was transferred to Iran knowing the negative could not be proved. Instead of Iran getting the full cooperation of the IAEA for the development of nuclear technology, it was ordered to stop preparations for large-scale uranium enrichment. In 2005 U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell labeled Iran a growing danger and called for the UN Security Council to impose sanctions.

According to Article 19 of Iran’s safeguards agreement with the IAEA, the Agency may refer Iran to the UN Security Council if it is “unable to verify that there has been no diversion of nuclear material required to be safeguarded under this agreement, to nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices”. The IAEA had reported that all declared fissile material in Iran had been accounted for, and none has been diverted. (source: //www.iaea.org/NewsCenter/Statements/2005/ebs....

It is wrong to assume that nuclear plants are simply for energy Recently, it was witnessed that due to a problem with a Canadian nuclear reactor that produces medical isotopes used to diagnose and treat cancer and cardiovascular disease, patients in Canada, U.S. and other countries had their tests and treatment postponed . In South America, nuclear technology is being used to map underground aquifers, so that water supplies can be managed sustainably. The Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI) which was changed to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) because of the negative connotations associated with the word nuclear in the late 1970's would be explored to diagnose and treat patients. In Vietnam, farmers plant rice with greater nutritional value that was developed with IAEA assistance – rice is also the staple food of Iranians.
Moreover, pollution has a negative impact impacton farm products which in turn effect the human life cycle. For this reason, a new plan has been implemented to screen crops for oil pollution, specifically those obtained from farmlands. Contrary to popular belief, Iran’ weakness is its oil and gas industry; Iran’s livelihood. Saad Rahim, an analyst at Washington consultancy PFC Energy claims that Iran needs to diversify its energy needs in addition to a change in its policies, otherwise, "Iran's net crude exports could fall to zero." Even environmentalists who had once shunned the nuclear industry, now hail it as a solution to global warming and there is growing cooperation between them and the nuclear industry (The Economist) .
Within the next few years (estimates are 10-25 years), over 2 billion people will be without drinking water. The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in India has initiated a nuclear project that makes sea water drinkable. It is envisioned that others will follow suit and nuclear power projects built in the future will also have water treatment plants to turn sea water drinkable like the design of Advance Heavy Water Reactor (AHWR) which will include a desalination plant making water drinkable. BARC's research in desalination technology started in 1970 and since then it has set up water treatment plants at Kalpakkam, Trombay (Maharashtra), in Barmer district of Rajasthan, and several other locations across India. BARC is also looking into mobile desalination plants mounted on a barge to supply villages with water.

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was named after Dr. Homi J. Bhabha, father of India's atomic energy, who said: "Our first duty as scientists is to establish the truth, and in this matter our responsibility to humanity transcends our allegiance to any state." "[F]or the continuation of our civilization and its further development, atomic energy is not merely an aid; it is an absolute necessity." (United Nations Presidential Speech--1956).

These are sad times when principles have given way to hypocrisy and instead of looking for solutions, we seek conflict. And the people reading my comments on this page seek to belittle me and call me call me all sorts of names instead of defending their country regardless of how they feel about the regime. I will not respond to anyone any more for I believe that I don’t need to justify myself. I write because I need to share what I know with my fellow citizens as I go along. Period.

Bankrupt Ideology

by Soraya Sepahpour (not verified) on

Seriously, if anyone wants to attack me, then they should become informed. So I have decided to address a few comments and go on learning myself.

1. Anonymous Observer – I don’t like to respond to comments that stem from hate rather than an attempt to read what I am actually stating – to at least give it the benefit of the doubt and investigate. Since I never claimed to have attended an Ivy League school, why would this reflect my intelligent dishonesty? I love and admire Chomsky (Jewish). Your next statement re cherry picking, Walter Lippman, one of America’s best known journalists and activists (Jewish) said the truth is 50% what one presents, the other 50% is how the other interprets it. Incidentally, my name is Sepahpour-Ulrich; hyphenated after I married, but it has always been important to keep the Sepahpour part. Have not read William Buckly. I hope you will do a better job of analyzing than I do. I will read it with an open mind. Israel given aid to Egypt because it is the only Arab country, and the first to recognize Israel. Jordan has allowed Israel to use its air space. I never went to Berkley, but I would love to have done so. I was not in U.S. during the revolution – but I love a good merlot. I hate Zionists (not Jews) and I abhor U.S. foreign policy, not the people.

When Iran is under attack by the U.S. and Israel on the basis of nuclear, interference in Iraq, and human rights, I will be damned if I add ammo to these two countries who want to destroy mine. If you want to do it, go ahead, be my guest. The MEK does a fine job of it, so do the monarchists, why not the rest of Iranians.

I will end here and write separately to someone has brought up the nuclear issue since that will be a lengthier response and I don’t want to bore you all.

Bankrupt Ideology

by Anonymous Observer (not verified) on

Let me say at the outset that I am no fan of George Bush. I was also, as I am now, a vehement opponent of the war in Iraq, for many reasons, the most important of which is the tragic loss of close to a million innocent Iraqi lives. I am also an opponent of an attack against Iran by anyone, as that will undoubtedly result in a loss of innocent lives and also the interruption of people's lives, who are alreay under severe economic hardship.

I actually tried to respond to Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich's last piece, but for some reason the comment section was closed. First, I want to point out that this is the first time that I respond to Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich's "articles", but I have been following them closely. What I did notice the last time, which I wanted to bring up was that Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich never responds to the considerable number of comments that are left in response to her articles, with one exception: she actually responded to Rosie T.'s article! Don't get me wrong. I like Rosie and I appreciate her concern, and deep knowledge about Iran, its people and its culture. The problem is not with her, but rather it is with Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich. I guess Ms. Sepahpour-Ulrich who, on regular basis sheds crocodile tears for the people of Iran on this site does not see us "Iranians" as being worthy of a response. She responded to Rosie because she was an American. Or was it because Rosie mentioned that she was a Columbia graduate. Sorry, Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich...not all of us could attend Ivy League schools (looking at your biography, it does not appear that you attended one either). So, this shows the level of Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich's intellectual dishonesty and her manufactured and artificial concern for her own people. I guess she respects the "Ulrich" part of her name more than the "Sepahpour" part.

This then brings me to my next point. Reading her hate filled pieces, it appears that Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich is a rabid leftist. Most of her dubious sources are extreme leftists, such as Noam Chmosky. Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich: anyone can cherry pick sources to fit his / her agenda. One can cite books by Noam Chomsky or William Buckley and arrive at totally different conclusions on the same subject. The mark of a good analyst is to analyze both sides of the issue and use independent neutral sources, which you have consistently failed to do. Writing rants such as the one here about Palestinians being "slaughtered" because the U.S. sells Israel weapons is ridiculous. Why don't you cite independent sources that show that the U.S. sells Arab nations weapons in almost equal quantities as Israel, and provides Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan substantial financial aid as well?

Lastly, Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich, if you will indulge me to describe where you probably come from so that the readers of this site know your paradigm. I think that Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich is a Berkley type ultra-leftist who was happy to see the "oppression" of Shah removed from Iran by a popular revolution. She probably was in the U.S. (this evil country!) during the Iranian revolution and attended many rallies or listened intensely to conferences and speeches by "the Ehya Confederation" of the like during the revolution. She then continued her studies in the U.S. (which provided her with the opportunities that her beloved country would not) and then read a lot of Chomsky books. She wasn't in Iran during the war when three generations of my war refugee family (almost 25 people) had to live in a one bedroom apartment and wait in line for two hours every night to use to the bathroom. She was here in the U.S. sipping wine and enjoying a sunny day at a rally talking about Palestine and the Israeli brutality. Perhaps once a while she traveled to Iran to visit her family in North Tehran . Now, she, and her ilk have no choice but to support the Iranian government, praise everything that happens in Iran, ignore all the negative sides (like the brutal oppression of women in Iran) and blame everything on the U.S. and the "evil Zionists". To do otherwise, they will have to admit a mistake. And let me tell you, none of this bunch that you see on this site ranting about the U.S. and trying to justify everything that goes on in Iran have the intestinal fortitude to be honest once in their "intellectual" careers and admit that they were wrong. They were wrong in advocating the overthrow of the Shah, they were wrong in not speaking out against the brutality of the new regime and they were, and are, wrong on many other things. So, how do they compensate? They do so by attacking the U.S. and the Zionist boogeyman. They try to shape public opinion by eschewing facts to fit their agenda, and their main agenda is to justify what they have said or done for the past thirty years, which is the absolute betrayal of the Iranian people. And trust me folks, they couldn’t give a hoot about the welfare of the people of Iran. A small example of that is what I mentioned above, and that is that out of hundreds of comments left on in response to her article, the only one that Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich responded to was that of an American.

If Ms. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich cared about the people of Iran, she would write a piece addressing the violation of women’s rights in Iran, where they are virtually deprived of inheritance rights, custody of their children in case of divorce, are beaten up in the streets because of a strand of hair showing from under their hejab, and many other injustices. So, please take your rants somewhere else and tell them to someone who doesn’t know where you come from.

All Israel have left is a ploy of massive psychological warfare in the hope and anticipation of regaining some of its past bogus power back.

I can assure you that if U.S and Israel were comfortable and confident in the result of a military action against Iran, It could and would have happened long time ago. Both U.S and Israel know that they are playing with fire which can burn them to their bones.

Kaveh, Fred, Zeynab and Samsam, great arguments. Soraya, I’m not a Bush supporter, never voted for him, but tell me, how did he “assault humanity”? Is it by his administration being the single biggest provider for food and medicine to Africa and poor countries? Is it by his administration providing biggest support and funding for NGOs all around the world? Is it by his administration sending billions of U.S taxpayer money for aid relief and economic development to countries all around the world? Jordan, who has some of the biggest anti American population, would collapse without U.S support, so will Egypt (Another country with high anti U.S sentiments) and numerous other countries. Again, although Bush had made so many mistakes that you really can’t find a lot of positive things to talk about, but its clear the exaggeration you’re making about the things he did is planned to demonize America itself. You claim that America wants to invade Iran to expand its bases, well wasn’t it the same Bush administration that its criticism of Uzbekistan government oppression of opposition group led to a closure of U.S base in Uzbekistan? And by the way, those people were Islamic fundamentalist groups, who will spare no effort to attack any U.S interest around the world. So Bush clearly sacrificed U.S base closure for human rights purposes. And your argument that Bush is attacking Iran to please his “religious” base is so misguided. Many conservatives have realized how Bush fooled them to get their votes in the election. Many of them are speaking out because of it. I’m sure you will call Bush a fundamentalist because you guys have your own definition of everything including terrorism, democracy, and “fundamentalism”, but after 8 years of “fundamentalist” rule in the white house, and 6 years of “fundamentalists” rule in the congress, in the U.S, abortion is still legal, religion is separate from church, freedom of speech is guaranteed, anti discrimination laws are passed one after another, gay marriage is being legalized more and more, ….,..and some good news, U.S still makes the most porn movies!!!! ….wow, these are some type of “fundamentalists aren’t they?

Now that Saddam is gone, they have switched their allegiances from Baathist Iraq to Iran's other foreign adversaries, the U.S. and Israel. This state of affairs explains their utter desperation to foment an attack against Iran.

Annihilation or few months halt of enrichment??

by aaj sr (not verified) on

Assuming you are right, Bush is absolutely a mad man, why don't you advise/write IRI to stop enriching for a few months, as repeatedly required by international community? Which one is better, as you suggested, catastrophic blood shed, annihilation or couple of months halt of enrichment? You see where the problem is? but what amaze me and many others here, is why your articles are so one sided every single time?.

I admire your writing talent and hence I am astonished why you are not using it for the right, justifiable, humanitarian purposes.
A writer is like a physician, or a scientist, if the knowledge is not used for peaceful, education and constructive purposes, is worth nothing. Your diverging articles are deceitful, misleading to say the least.

Khamene ee and psychopath, delusional, demagogue Ahmadi believe that Mehdi is coming to save them no matter what or as Ahmadi once said "I am an engineer , I know US is not attacking us" therefore they use every poking, provocative manouvering and use every destructive rhetoric, anticipating no one confront them and you, YES you, without exception blaming the West for their irrational behavior.

Why Iran or anyone for the sake of argument should engage with a mad, moronic, war mongering man who has superiority in every sophisticated, greatest armament technology?, if Bush and his gang can be stopped with a promise of a few months halt in enrichment?. Why as you suggested, millions of people die because un-Islamic, unholy, uncivilized bunch of stupid, uneducated, inhuman individuals continuing defying international community (right or wrong) just for a few months halt????

So be serious and bark somewhere else. You keep repeating the same old "nane man gharibam" and "noheh khooni" once a month here and elsewhere, there is no more tears left in our eyes, people are smart, they do not come under your flag for "sineh zani" any more.

Write a few lines to IRI or even better, call your contacts and tell them to accept the carrot package, then enjoy respect of the world, grab the light-water enrichment technology, enter the World Trade Organization, get the infrastructure industries in place, get people employed again, give women their rights, clean up the rivers, roads, lacks and seas, be part of head starters for all kind of renewable energy, where the next generation of energy is heading for 21-22 century, be among the leaders of the world in renewable energy while you have the money( before you give it away)for research before it's too late; and finally and most importantly, give basic freedom to a nation, who are thirsty for any drop of it for so many years.

Soraya be more sensible, stop fear mongering and propaganda.

One last reminder: How many treaties, manifesto, agreement, and resolutions Iran have signed last 30 years with UN and others, including all, I mean ALL human rights resolutions that Iran is not abiding by? There you have it, IRI is not trustable, their signatures on these treaties and resolutions mean nothing and this is the fact (including their signature and promises for nuclear technology), this is the history and here officially I am announcing that you are also responsible as accessory to IRI crimes against humanity if you do not truly help suffering, innocent Iranian people.

Many have written that Iran will not be Iraq, I concur with them. We fought bare hands with the whole world when Iraq attacked us. They could not take an inch of our country. We will die, but will not give an inch of our country to anybody.

Become agents of change

Aside retelling the  compacted version of Sisyphus myth you state.: “so the U.S. , Israel, and their allies constantly demand that Iran prove its innocence, the negative, even though the IAEA has stated that Iran of the charges.” Please cite the document where UN or any of its relevant agencies including IAEA has given the Islamist republic, as you hint at, the clean bill of health. The two decades long clandestine full cycle nuclear activity in direct contravention of international treaties that the Islamist republic is a signatory of can not be explained away by crafty use of double entendres. NIAC/CASMII lobbies can really become agents of change by exerting equal pressure and propaganda on the Islamist republic to comply with international treaties that it is a signatory to including the ones on Human Rights.

The Pot Calling The Kettle Sia

Substitute Ruhollah Moussavi Hendi's name for George W. Bush. The "devotion" to religion on the part of Moussavi and the rest of the IRI gangsters have resulted in the loss of countless IRANIAN lives.

Gone are the days when Iranians were respected and loved and welcomed.

Israel doesn't want Iran destroyed. Only the IRI. Great minds think alike.

Lest we remove him? Even a fourth grader knows that Bush's term is over at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time on January 20th, 2009.
