03-Sep-2012 (68 comments)

US-IRAN

Can there ever be a compromise?

A troubling question

31-Aug-2012 (13 comments)
Iran is not in a position to either stop or retaliate against American moves. Unequal powers, combined with extreme mistrust, have led Iran’s leadership to conclude that negotiations with the US would be humiliating since the US has the upper hand, and is dangerous because Americans are not trustworthy. Against the US toughening sanctions, Iran’s only weapon is to escalate and expand its nuclear program>>>

31-Aug-2012 (2 comments)

Partition Iran?

Another Misguided Plan by Southern California Congressman Rohrabacher

29-Aug-2012 (47 comments)
Congressman Rohrabacher wrote a letter to US Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton informing her that since the “people of Azerbaijan are geographically divided and many are calling for the reunification of their homeland after nearly two centuries of foreign rule,” the United States should help them reach that goal. He then goes on to say that: Russia and Persia divided the homeland of Azeris homeland in 1828, without their consent>>>

Welcome to Tehran

What the Iranian People Expect of Ban Ki-Moon

27-Aug-2012 (6 comments)
Despite calls in some quarters for him to skip out, the UN Secretary General plans to travel to Iran next week, a country that has become a dungeon for its own people. Most of the criticisms of him going have come from states leading efforts to isolate Iran due to the nuclear impasse. But at a time when severe human rights abuses continue unabated against Iran's citizens, it is a critical opportunity to refocus international attention>>>

27-Aug-2012 (16 comments)

25-Aug-2012 (2 comments)

Conceptualizing Gender (10)

Gender Construction and Gender Relations

23-Aug-2012
Femininities and masculinities are structures and configurations of social practices and relations. These gender identities and inequalities are constructed, produced and reproduced simultaneously within four social spaces: 1) the space of procreation and nurturance, 2) space of individuals’ life history, 3) space of social institutions, relations and practices, and 4) space of cultural discourse (i.e., symbolic relations.) Every gender identity is based on the complex interactions between these four spaces at a specific time and place>>>

Iran must deal with its own people before it can continue jockeying for geopolitical gain

20-Aug-2012 (16 comments)
The ruling regime in Iran negotiates from a position of weakness. Why? Because it lacks internal legitimacy, and instead of mobilising a mass social base against this treachery it continues to perpetrate even more treachery against its own people. The US and its allies know this and thus take advantage of it. Instead of negotiating behind closed doors with 5+1 or any other such configuration, shuttling from Istanbul to Baghdad to Moscow to God knows where, the ruling regime in Iran needs to negotiate with their own people>>>

Remembering the Men who Stood for Truth

Ahmad Shayegan, his eldest son, has published his memoirs (in Persian) titled, “The Political Life, Writings and Speeches of Seyed Ali Shayegan,” Agah Publishers, 2005, Tehran. In dedication to Ahmad and all the men, like his father, who stood by the man who sought nothing except dignity and prosperity for his nation, I took a few pages from the book and translated them for this occasion>>>

Will Israel attack Iran?

Not with profound distrust of Netanyahu's leadership

18-Aug-2012 (7 comments)
Israeli threats of an imminent attack against Iran make headlines almost daily. Israel’s media also reflect the latest developments in this respect in a significant fashion. According to Time, on August 10, "the front pages of the four main Israeli dailies reflected what appeared to be a concerted campaign to create the impression that Israel is preparing itself to start a hot war with Iran sometime over the next 12 weeks.” >>>
