Dear soldier,

I would tell you that if she couldn't wait for you and had the urge to get knocked up then she's is not worth it. You can do better I am sure.

To Vet1991-93: Tinoush is male.

To Tinoush: I think a combination of your nice name and your avatar mirror makes people think that you are Ms. What about an "electric shaver" instead of the mirror? :-)

As usual, comments are meaningless.

by Vet1991-93 (not verified) on

As someone who wasted two precious years of his life for that blasted conscription, I understand that kid's pain. His pain is real.

Back to those enlightened comments of dear readers. As usual, they miss the point by a mile. The point of conscription is neither immitating the West nor is it a tool of social engineering. Conscription was an out growth of a mode of war which depended on fielding large infantry armies and rely on their massed firing power and later, to use them in occupation of the conquered land. That mode of warfare came into being during the wars following the French revolution and was pretty effective until after WWII.

So Reza Shah adopted an state of the art strategy for his time to modernize, the at the time non existant Iranian army. Mr. amirkabear4u's comment sounds like petulence. Sometimes, when I read comments by these rabid anti-Pahlavi types, one gets the feeling as if they were raped by the Pahlavi monarchs and their hatred and anger is more psychological rather then political. I hope our friend here gets cured.

Ms. Tinoush misses the point too. The point of raising and maintaining army is not to promote equality and social justice in a country, the point is to win wars. Given 19 and 20 century technology, you needed to train a lot of people minimally, send them to war, and be ready to tolerate vey high casualties. Hence conscription was logical. Given current technology, you need to train your soldiers a lot before they can be deployed. So either you have to increase the time of conscription to several years (3-5 years in Israel), or you need to rely on a professional army (Ms. Tinoush's "mercenary" army). Apart from ad-hominem, infantile, and idiotic anti-Americanism, use those little grey cells. Does you a world of good. Trust me.

on the contrary

If there is going to be an army, it is best to have a compulsary army. Then both the rich and the poor get to taste what war feels like. the problem with US army is that it is an army of the disadvantaged. Essentially, a mercenary army composed mainly of those who have no other choice. And the result is that the rich have no idea what real war is like. They wave their flags, spew their spoon-fed dose of patriotism and voila! Others pay the real price.

If anything, the problem in Iran is that one can buy out their military service and of course because of the theocratic nature of the country, certain people get to skip it. I hope if there ever is a democratic Iran with a functioning army, that it should NOT be a volunteer army.

do NOT NEED this military service

by amirkabear4u on

This is a good example of public comment and good observation from Asghar. We do NOT NEED this military service and done no good for anyone.

It also shows how naive reza shah was when he introduce this military service. Strangely enough this pahlavi's bloody dynasty who copied everything western, like to reflect themselves as Persians.

I hope we never see them back again.
