Shooting at close range

Israeli soldier fires at Palestinian detainee

BBC: Israel's defence minister has condemned an incident caught on film in which a soldier seems to shoot a rubber bullet at a bound and blindfolded Palestinian. Ehud Barak said the case was "grave and wrong" and that the military would exact the full extent of the law. Footage released by human rights group B'Tselem on Sunday shows the detainee being held by one soldier as another fires at his legs at close range. The Palestinian man has said the rubber bullet hit his left big toe. The Israeli military originally said that the lieutenant colonel had been unaware of the incident and that the door of his patrol vehicle had blocked his line of sight. However, the footage appears to show him holding the Palestinian detainee's arm when the shot is fired. The Jerusalem Post also reports that the commander told the soldier: "Shoot him, shoot him." >>>

Mr. Aminian

I don't know how old you are but prior to the revolution, Israel & Iran were doing over $400 million in business annually (that's like 2 Billion in todays money). Iran was one of Israel's largest trading partners. They even built a secret pipline together in Israel. See article below that explains it better:

//www.iran-press-service.com/ips/articles-200...

The IRI has no one to blame for the current situation but itself.

Do you really think it helps the IRI position (or your position) with all the multiple stupid statements Ahmadinejad makes (even if the literal distruction of Israel was not meant by his words which some retards here say), the holocust denial conferences (inviting the like of David Duke), supporting Hezbollah and Hamas with Arms and money....And MArg BAr Israeel chants for the last 30 years? The Israelis would be crazy if they sit and do nothing.

How many Iranians have the Israelis opressed in the passed 30 or 60 years? How many Iranians have they killed?

This IRI regime needs an enemy to survive. What better enemy and scapgoat than the Jews (code named the Zionists). The IRI is asking to be attacked. BADANESHOON MICHAREH. If they get attacked by the Israelis or the West, they know that its a ticket for the regime to survive another 100 years. For them its a good price. These akhoonds could care less for us Iranians. They have killed more Iranians and muslims than the Israelis killed Arabs in 60 years of fighting. They just want to stay in power. If they get attacked or if they don't get attacked its a win win situation for them.

You contradicted yourself there. The fact is both Imperial Iran and Israel were armed to the teeth, especially in the early to mid 1970s. The fact that both countries were supplied by the U.S. is secondary. If Iran was the bitch, Israel is the ho. No real difference.

As far as Iran summoning the Israeli ambassador to voice opposition to cross-border encroachments, how can that compare with calling for them to be wiped off the map? What you are talking about is the equivalent of a traffic cop blowing his whistle or a boxing referee calling out a fighter for low blows.

Realistically, I would worry about the IRI using nuclear weapons more than Israel. Given the power of destruction contained in a single atomic warhead and the size of Israel itself, if they were to take out surrounding enemies using nukes, there would be catastrophic collateral damage to their own land and people. That's just not in their mindset, whereas with the Arab mentality, such an act is the act of a martyr and blah blah blah, the same bullshit they keep going on about. They honestly don't care who they take out even if it's their own.

Additionally the realistic number of weapons Israel has is 200 (which I agree is 201 too many). Being that they have not used any since building the first one in 1967 when they were getting attacked with regularity, it could be a lot worse.

Israel is not a signer of the NPT and Iran is. Who do you honestly think is the bigger threat?

In hindsight it's a blessing that the Shah didn't get any nukes, because guess who would have the bombs now?

aaminian

To Kaveh

by aaminian on

Kaveh,

There was never a neck to neck military equivalence between Iran and Israel. Back during the Shah's era, Iran was US's number 1 bitch in the world and still had to buy its weapons from the US at inflated rates. Iran without the US was NOTHING militarily, which was and still is true for Israel.

But there are 2 very important differences:

1. Israelis received hundreds of nukes from the US, something that Shah was refused.

2. Israel received (and still does) ALL of that for FREE.

Make no mistake about it, Iran had to beg for US's friendship wheras the Zionist regime received (and still does) the treatment free of charge. Does the name AIPAC ring a bell for you? That's the group that lobbies the Congress for free bees for Israel. And guess where that money comes from? From the tax payers like you (if you work) and me. What is that money being used for is for bulldozing poor Palestinian homes.

Another thing, Kaveh, you mentioned that we didn't have any problems with Israel druing the Shah. You maybe too young to remember but even in that era Iran warned Israel several times to stop cross-border invasions into Lebanon. YES, Iran summoned the Israeli ambassador to Iran on several occassions and officially voiced its opposition to Israel's attrocities.

Kaveh Nouraee

aaminian

You had me on the first paragraph, then lost me on the second.

Until 1979, there was no Iran-Israel issue. It didn't even begin until these Arabparasts came in.

If the status quo from the pre-IRI era were still in effect, there wouldn't be any talk of military action. Pre-IRI, Iran never called for Israel to be wiped off the map or any of that other BS attributed to that mutated monkey or his handlers.

If you recall, Iran and Israel were neck and neck in military strength back in the day, too, and neither side was a threat to the other.

Kaveh,

I don't give a flying fuck about Arabs. As a matter of fact I believe most of the problems in the ME are the direct cause of oppressive nature of Arab rulers and the Islamic-fundamentalist complex that's shaped the countries of that region.

By the same token I have a problem with the ruthless Zionist regime that will run over anyone/everyone to accomplish its objectives. What you need to understand is that even if Iran was not a trouble maker, had the best human rights record in the world, and didn't seek nukes, the Zionists would still try to get rid of it! Why is that, you may ask? Answer: Iran doesn't bow to the bullying of the Zionists and their masters, namely, the US and GB. They want Iran to be subservient just like arabs and Iran wouldn't give in.

I don't get it, do you expect me to talk about every crimes and genocide that has ever happened in history before having the right to criticize Israel?!! why? So that Israel's atrocities don't look so bad in the context of human crimes in history?

No, my friend! It's true that other crimes and genocides have happened in history, but every one of them can be discussed separately and independently. Israel has occupied and oppressed the Palestinians for 60 years, and it is doing so with the full support of world's superpowers. This conflict IS one of the most important conflicts in the political scene today. There is nothing wrong with denouncing this crime, even though the victims are "Arabs"!

Rostam: The first paragraph of your comment "STOP the nonsense Jewish bashing" says it all, and says it very well. It's a question that has been asked countless times, yet no one who is caught up in the bashing is either willing or able to answer it

Atoosa: Yes, that is exactly what Arabs think of us, and there are those who call themselves Iranian who keep on making themselves subservient to their Arab masters anyway. Is it any surprise that our homeland is in the shape that it is?

I despise the violence on either part, be it Arab or Israeli. But the fact is, the Arabs have been given multiple opportunities to peacefully co-exist with Israel since before the time of the British Mandate, only to shaash all over it every single time.

There has never been a sovereign independent country called Palestine, and at the rate thngs are going, there might not ever be. Even Syria and Jordan has effectively washed their hands of the Palestinians. Not the people, as much as the so-called leadership, who have made it very clear that they would rather die than compromise with a Jew.

I know at least three Palestinians who have said time and time again that it's their own leadership that is the barrier to real peace. Leaders who are corrupted by the criminal influences of Hamas and Hezbollah and their satellite groups. Leaders who honestly don't have the real interests of the people in mind.

But, it doesn't matter. These Jew hating Iranians who prefer being syncophants for people who loathe them will never change.

I'm not trying to divert anything... mine was a collective response to various comments.  I think rather that you're mistaking MY words.

As far as iranian.com being for iranians only... HELL YES it's been said.  Time and time again... even in this same thread.  Don't "red herring" THAT one.  I'm not talking about you personally, I don't know you.  But absolutely, without question, there IS an attitude of "go away, you're not welcome here", especially when it's regarding a sensitive subject.  And duh, this one is.

I also think that there is a predominantly pro-Palestinean attitude here.  So the primitively partisan comment stands.  Zion IS Jewish... it stand to reason he/she is going to be partisan.  What I don't understand is why you are partisan... you're neither Jewish or Palestinean (I assume).

Listen... I'm no expert on this subject.  Many of you know far more than I do.  But I am learning... and reading... and researching.  My opinion won't be based on one-sided research or opinions.

Having said all that, I have to tell ya... I LOVED the vegan analogy.

Too... let me explain something to you that most people in a free society already know.  I can have an opinion about anything I choose.  I made it perfectly clear my comments weren't a support either way.  I make it perfectly clear I don't have extensive knowledge one way or the other to make a stand... yet.  My comments were in reference to the hateful things being said.

AAminian...no, I've not been to Iran.  However, I AM married to an Iranian and have two stepsons.  I enjoy sharing/living/learning the Persian culture.  I do agree that the Iranian people as a whole are a warm and compassionate people.  I'm just afraid I'm not seeing too much of that here.  "So, the end result of watching this subjective verbeage is truly believing that Middle Easterners hate Westerners in general and Americans in particular. And, of course, nothing can be further away from the truth".  You exaggerate when you say "nothing could be further from the truth".  It is unfortunately pretty much the case.

I actually don't HATE anybody or anything, I am simply suggesting that you and some people like you have a very SELECTIVE sense of justice and human integrity. Meaning that you would use all this beautiful and touching words only and only when it comes to those who you affiliate yourself with. Again, as an example I would like to point to another historic tragedy. I don't recall Iranians or more specifically hard-core Muslim Iranians ever being outraged by the Ottoman massacre of Armenians. Considering that Armenians have been a vital part of this amazing land called Iran for thousands of years. Why the double-standard? They are not human enough to enjoy the "Iranian sense of justice" that you talk about?!!!

There are millions of examples like the one I just mentioned, However, my point is that we are VERY VERY SELECTIVE when it comes to who we want to feel sympathy for.

In the end I hope you don't mind if I keep using the names Shahname, Rostam and etc. You see, I have an Arabic name just like you do, but it's my Iranian heritage that I am proud of. And I don't mind you calling me narrow-minded, I just hope you don't take this personal. What we are having here is a positive dialogue. We Iranians need to talk to each other and try to listen to each other more than ever.

aaminian

To Atoosa

by aaminian on

Atoosa,

Ahmadinejad is a clown and no intelligent human being should even pay attention to him. He is very stupid for saying what he did. But make NO MISTAKE about it. The current state of affairs including Iran, Israel, US and the old country Europe has nothing to do with his comments, Iran's nuclear ambitions, or the human rights violations in Iran. If you don't agree with this statement, then you'll need to do a lot of reading and research on official American Foreign Policy Doctorine (FPD). This doctorine changes from administration to administration and it is highly influenced by America's economic goals/needs in order to stay the World's only super power.

Now, to the million Dollar question: What is Americas current FPD? Short answer: To secure the value of US Dollar through controlling world's deposits of natural energy and valuable mineral resources. Where do you think most of these natural resources are? If you said the ME you're 25% correct. How about the rest 75%? The answer is (drum beats in the background...) Central Asia. That includes Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbakistan, and Kyrgyzstan all squeezed between Russia and China. By now, that should've triggered some bells and whistles in your mind. If it hasn't, continue on reading.

Through Iran's heavy influence/lobbying in OPEC through the late 90s and early 00s, price of crude oil reached new heights, far and beyond anything all Arab members of OPEC together could've achieved (If you're old enough, you'd remember that this has happened once before during the rule of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, God bless his soul. BTW, his nickname was the Eagle of OPEC). Iran's intense lobbying brought another change to OPEC although short-lived. Instead of Crude Oil being exchanged in US Dollars, a lot of OPEC members routinely exchanged this invaluable commodity in EUROs. Additionally, Iran has had several very ambitious and yet economically viable energy projects including the transfer of Central Asian Republics' oil/gas to Europe via. the Iranian plateau.

The immediate effect of Iran's efforts that I just mentioned caused the value of US Dollar to decrease considerably compared to EURO. This along with the close proximity of Russia and China to the Central Asian Republics would've meant the beginning of end of US 's world hegemony and that of course is unacceptable! So what do you think US's next strategy should be? I hope by now you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

All of this is what caused the emergence of Neo-Conservatism in Capitol Hill. America needed to get back to controlling world's natural resources by any and all means. The easiest target was Afghanistan, followed by Iraq (with 600,000+ civilian deaths!), and now to the biggest piece of the puzzle: IRAN. But Iran is a very different target than the latter countries for several reasons:

1. Iran is much bigger than Iraq and Afghanistan and a more difficult geographical landscape than those countries for any successful military adventurism.

2. Iran is economically more sound (comparatively speaking)

3. Iran's military is stronger and 80% indigenous.

4. Iran sits on top the world's most important waterway, the Straits of Hormuz.

Now, put all of this together and you see why Iran is America's #1 Foreign Policy problem. America couldn't care less what the Mullahs do to their own people; all they want is to get to all the gold, uranium, silver, and copper in Central Asia. These resources are so vast in that part of the world that whoever gets to them first will tip the planet's economic balance. America's extremely intense "diplomatic" efforts for the past 4 years have absolutely nothing to do with Iran's so-called "enrichment" program. Enrichment, my ASS! The Iranian nuclear scientists break more centifuges in a year than the entire Western nuclear powers have for the past 60 years.

Now, saying that "Iran (with only a few grams of enriched Uranium) is a big threat to Israel", with some 600 estimated ballistic warheads, a sixth of which is enough to wipe out the entire human race to smitherings is absolutely LUDICROUS!

Israel knows well enough that if Iran so much as farted in Israel's direction would be vaporized in matter of minutes. What Ahmadinejad or any other idiot says has absolutely no bearing on US/Israel's intentions are. US/Israel/GB are the new Three Musketeers, you have to see that! Please open your eyes and do be so gullible.

First of all, again don't use the name of the Shahnameh, Rostam, Iran..etc to support your hatred and lack of compassion for others. Shahnameh is all about the sense of justice and human integrity. Never does it promote indifference towards injustice and the suffering of other humans based on their ethnicity! If YOU had ever read the Shahnameh you'd know that.

The Iranian culture is all about these human values, Ferdosi, Sa'di, Molavi..etc all teach us to transcend the barriers of ethnicity and race and cherish the essence of humanity. So, you can hate the Arabs and Muslims all you want but don't drag the Iranian culture into it.

Secondly, it's ridiculous to say that I should first condemn every crime committed by Muslims and Arabs anywhere since the beginning of time before having the right to condemn the crimes of Israelis. Israel is committing horrible violations of human rights, over 65 U.N resolution have condemned its racist policies and violations of human rights so far (almost all of them were VETOed by the U.S) and all of the peace activists around the world and most of the academics and intellectuals even in Western countries condemn Israel for the atrocities it is committing against Palestinians, and most of them are not Muslims or Arabs!!

I seriously advise you to get out of your narrow minded views, but most importantly to not attribute them to the Iranian culture.

My friend, now that you are so concerned about human compassion and human rights, I would like to know when was the last time that you so compassionately stood against tyranny when it comes to our Muslim brothers?! Have you ever expressed your sympathy for the 700+ Jews that were savagely massacred by our GREAT PROPHET? Have you ever showed your compassion for the way minorities have been treated in Muslim countries such as Iran?!

I am guessing not, simply because I am sure that if half of those who so enthusiastically defend Palestinians and their cause, would have defended the rights of our own people, then my Baha'i, Zoroastrian and Jewish friends would still be back in Iran enjoying their lives.

My friend, remember something; friendship is a two-way street. When was the last time Arabs cared for anything that concerns us Iranians?! When all of them supported Saddam against us?! Or would it be when they started calling the Khuzestan, Arabestaan instead?! Is it when they call the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Gulf? Or maybe it could be when they invaded our beloved country and have used us as slaves since their barbaric invasion?!

You see my friend, it's a pitty that a country that has been the birthplace of human rights and religious tolerance begins to blindly discriminate against others based on what could only be translated as religious dogma.

I don't necessarily support all the actions of the state of Israel, although I very much admire their passion for knowledge and their scientific contributions to the human civilization, especially compared to their Arab counterparts. However, what bothers me is that I have a feeling that if Israelis were Muslim and of Muhammad's descent, you would have never reacted the way you do today.

All I ask my Persian friends is to open Shahname once in a while and read it. Then it would be very clear who the real tyrants are; they aren't the Jews for sure.

Unfortunately this madness is nothing new. Israel has lived with this for 60 years, and Jews for the past few thousands years. It is sad for many Palestinians too. Take it easy. Palestinians do this to Israelis every day also. Both sides are guilty in this crazy violence. You are correct that Fox is subjective but so is Aljazeerah and the rest of the middle eastern media or European media (like the BBC).

Yes, Israel as a state has a higher burden to treat these people more professionally but both sides are equally responsible. And when I say both sides, this includes the Arab world (and now the IRI) which at times has supported idiotic violence against innocent Israeli civilians.

I said it before and I'll say it again! At least the Israelis do not treat their own citizens this way. Can you say this about the IRI and the way it treats our Hamvatans? Or can you say this about Arab countries and the way they treat their own citizens?

I Am Not Evil!

by aaminian on

Hi American Wife,

Let me clarify a few points I I think were minsconstrued on my post:

1. I am not racist; neither are most Iranians on this web site. Iranians in general are very warm and welcoming people. If you've been to Iran or have had any Iranian friends in the past, you should know that! We don't hate people or advocate hatred because of their ethnic background, color of their skin, etc.. What we cannot/will not stand is when someone's right is taken away from them so cruely and so conspicuously as if there is not an ounce of humanity and shame left in the perpetrators. Then Zion comes out all the way from the left field and says this guy had it coming to him! For heaven's sake, how cruel can he be?!! He REALLY PUSHED MY BUTTONS with his comments.

2. I love our First Amendment right, that's why I am here, that's why I am an American Citizen and that's why I served in our Armed Forces, and WILL DO IT AGAIN if need be. That's my commitment to this GREAT nation. What you need to understand is that those acts of injustice that you see on this video are so rampant and commonplace in Israel that everyone in the world knows about them except for Americans! "Why", you may ask. The answer is that the corporate media in this country feeds us a bunch of lies. Yes, all the news broadcasted by CNN/FOX News, etc. is so hideously subjective and so far away from reality that if you believe an iota of it you should seriously have your head examined. So, the end result of watching this subjective verbeage is truly believing that Middle Easterners hate Westerners in general and Americans in particular. And, of course, nothing can be further away from the truth.

3. This site is NOT JUST for Iranians. Probably about 60% of the articles that I've read on this web site have been posted by non-Iranians. That's what makes this web site so interesting and diverse. Many thanks to the curator, Jahanshah Javid.

To sum it all up, there is NO hatred here (at least not on my part), and evil is what evil does! Talk is cheap, so knock yourself out, talk as much as you want. That's my motto!
