Maybe not in a castle, but I also remember

by Nostalgic Today (not verified) on

I remember my parents talking about Afat, Mahvash, and Shahpar, criticizing them for singing for all those men in Lalehzar nightly and playing in low-class movies. When you think about it, those women were so very brave. However they had ended up as singers and performers, they put up with so much stigma to go on that stage to adoring fans every night. They definitely broke a few taboos in their lifetimes.

Watching the video of an elderly Shahpar, the courage is so visible in her face. God bless her soul.

Memories

by Proud to be Anonymous (not verified) on

When I was 12 years old (1964), I went to a Sizdeh bedar party/concert held in northern part of Sa'd Abad Castle/Garden for members of the Imperial Guard (gard -e- shahanshahi) and their families and also some employees of the Imperial Court (vezarat -e- darbar) and their families. In that concert Shahpar and Naser Masoodi were performing. She was quite a performer. She was wearing a very loose and short skirt. All men were standing very close to the stage and all in love with her. Their wives off course were quietly cursing her. That memory is very vivid in my mind. Good old days!

Here's another clip from the same session, in which she sings another one of her oldies.  Very sweet.  You can see the stage performer in her even in such humble and austere surroundings:

And if you'd like to listen to her original songs, here are a couple fun ones:
