Salman J. Borhani

Attorney learned the importance of the presumption of innocence in the service of justice

I would like to nominate this attorney as the Iranian of the day. His name is Salman J. Borhani. Borhani's practice is entirely devoted to criminal defense. An experienced and aggressive Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, Mr. Borhani's interest in criminal law began when he was chosen as an intern for the defense team at the Sierra Leone War Crimes Tribunal. It was during this time that Mr. Borhani learned the importance of the presumption of innocence in the service of justice. Mr. Borhani earned his law degree from John F. Kennedy University, his master's degree from the Whitehead School of Diplomacy, and his bachelor's degree from Florida State University. He has served on the editorial boards of the John F. Kennedy University Law Review and the Whitehead Journal of Diplomacy. Mr. Borhani was also invited to be a contributing author for the United Nations Association in New York.

Thank You Very Much,

Things that make you go hmmmmm

As a fellow practitioner who happens to be Iranian as well I am a little confused here.

In my opinion the write-up on this gentleman looks more like an advertisement that would be on his commercial site than someone nominating him as "Iranian of the day". This is what you would find in firms if you click under Attorney Bio.

In fact this is his firm's bio verbatim:

//www.idefendyou.org/attorney_profiles.html

I'm not sure if he provided the info, or was aware of his name being submitted in this format. In my opinion this kind of solicitation (if he is aware of it) is one step above sending runners to the hospital emergency room.

Believe me I would understand were he is coming from if he has had a friend submit this: he's a young guy and LA is a competitive market for legal services, but this is not the proper forum to solicit business under the pretext of nominating an "Iranian of the day".

There are several other attorneys that post on this site regularly (hi Nikki ;). Other than mentioning that they are attorneys in the course of their writing, they generally refrain from providing a breakdown of their services in their "blog"

Additionally, if you want to advertise then just advertise like the rest of the businesses that advertise on this site, and in the process help with the costs of providing this forum for everyone to enjoy.

Just my 2 cents, but it could be that I'm older established and "nafasam az jayeh garm meeyad"

G'day :)

The presumption of innocence in the US is the only thing that keeps the country from sliding into a dictatorship of the police. Defense lawyers insure that the accused are given a fair trial and are not framed by the police. That's the difference between Iran and the US.

I don't think an "aggressive" defense atty. is something to be proud of in USA. This is the only country where criminals have more rights than the victims. Defense atty's in this country get the CRIMINALS back into our society. Please don't make them sound like hero's, because they are not. An internship at the war crimes tribunal is NOT the same as being a criminal defense atty. in USA. prosecuting war crimes is NOT the same as defending criminals... Unfortunately a lot of Iranians mix up what a defense atty. really do because they compare it the hero's in places like Iran who fight for human rights or political prioners... IT IS NOT THE SAME... They fight for a different cause.

...looks like the american legal system is fashioned from the foundation right after Zoroastar's trinity motto of Good thought, good..., good, ...

As it goes someone "garbage" is another one's "treasure"...

Now tell me what are the seven words you cannot utter on American television from all the possible words in and out of that fearsome dictionary...
