Indeed Who Cares ?

Funny how a Nowrooz Photo of the Royal Family triggers so much passion amongst you to turn it into one of the most viewed items this week.

Who Cares?!?!?!?

by Salar (not verified) on

Kadivar,

You are stuck in the past, promoting a dead concept that died 30 years ago. You need to update yourself and get out of this damaging psychological rut you are stuck in. I have nothing against monarchy and willing to give my life for it, but when the monarch is Kouroush kabir, daroush kabir, shapur … not bunch of weak, incompetent, traitors waiting for their foreign masters to tell them what to do and when to do it. If you ask most enlightened Iranians living in this “century” they consider Pahlavis and IRI cause and effect, basically two sides of the same coin, as explained well by other comments here. Shah might have been developing some better ideas toward the end of his regime but he was too weak and incompetent to carry them out. His son, if not worse, is not better than his father, proven his incompetence to the fullest extent in the past 30 years. If Iranians desired incompetent monarchs they already have them, Akbar shah, Ali gedah shah …, why would they replace them with reza Pahlavi shah. Please look for solutions elsewhere, it ain’t going to happen.

Here is another monarchist fallacy; to always point out to the worse miseries of the Iranians today to make themselves and their shah look good in contrast.

A question for you; what if after the revolution things had not gone that wrong and Iran had become a great place to live? How would you have defended the criminal, tyrannical, corrupted, puppet regime of the Pahlavis? Does the "glory" of your Shah only depend on how bad the next regime has screwed up?!

by Ali (not verified) on

Like all other monarchists, you live in your own world of delusions and denial.

Seems like you think that the Iranian people were joking or something when they threw the Pahlavis out of the country in a massive revolution not so long ago! and your "problem" with Reza Pahlavi is that he could not "unite" the people as a "Crown Prince" who stays above all political differences?!!!! Is that a joke?! Yaroo ro too deh rah nemidadan....

I don't have a problem with you believing and promoting whatever you want, that's your right. But it is just extremely difficult for me (and I am sure most Iranians) to communicate with ex-pats like you, who have totally lost their grip on the realities of Iran. You address us as "republicans" for God's sake, as if there even is a social debate about "Republic vs Monarchy" or "Absolute Monarchy vs constitutional Monarchy" in Iran!!

My advice to you, is to take a trip to Iran and talk to some people. Real people from the middle and lower class; students, artists, activists, businessmen, workers...living in different cities and towns across the country and each trying, in their own way, to make Iran a better place to live for their children. Not some old retired army officers of the shah or whatever who spend half the year in Northern Tehran and the other half in Los Angeles trying to "overthrow" the "regime" by dropping broken pieces of glass and nails on the streets! Then, you'll know that anything related to the Shah or monarchy or constitutional monarchy or Pahlavi family are totally irrelevant in Iran and the majority of Iranians do not consider themselves as having been "namak nashnas" with regards to the "favors" of His Majesty and the Queen!!

The IRI's trilogy is:

Shepesh-booye paAftabeh

Your 'president' antarinejad, is the prototipe of this trilogy.  I understand that some still envy the Pahlavi family. Yet, let me remind you that if it wasn't because of them, you would be riding camels, instead of driving cars in Iran.

This is not 1979,where your Cheguevara wanna-be attitude looks funny. Thirty years have gonne by and your backward, arabzades minds haven't changed.  These are the ones who on live programmes call and tell Mr. Pahlevi: Your father stole our money, it wasn't his you know? please pay it back.

Of course, their mediocre minds doesn't see who is really stealing Iran's money (chahar loppi) who is selling Iranian young girls to UAE, who is causing the massive brain drain Iran is suffering, the huge drug addiction, prostitution, etc...  Your mediocre half-arab IRI passport doesn't take you that far, so you need to come to Canada to get a better one.  Give us break, you jackasses.

By the way, if the Pahlevi took money from Iran (It was theirs and nooshe jooneshoon)

Kadivar, the civilized

by Mammad (not verified) on

Mr. Kadivar:

I do not call you names, like fish face. I do not lower myself to your level. None of the adjectives that I used to describe you was insulting. I also did not, and have not, commented on the photos that you have posted on the personal life of Reza Pahlavi and his family. What he does with his family is his business.

But, there are a few points in your response that are worth responding to:

I totally agree with you that one should learn history in depth, learn from it, not distort it, and then try to to use the knowledge and experience in the future.

In fact, that is exactly why people like me are opposed to Reza Pahlavi being the leader of the opposition, a uniter, a catalyst, or whatever that you want him to be, or he want to be: We have read the history, we have lived during the Shah's reign, our fathers lived during the Shah's and Reza Shah's reign, we know about others who promised that they wanted nothing in return for the work that they do, but changed their mind. We also know how much responsibility that the Shah had in creating a situation that brought the mullahs to power, and creating the present mess in Iran.

Reza Pahlavi has every right to present himself as whatever he aspires to be, but by the same token I have the right to oppose him. In my view, and the view of like-minded friends, our reasons for opposing him are as good as any because, once again, we know the history, but you are entitled to your opinion, and reject them as worthless if you wish.

You also talked about jealousy about Reza Pahlavi.

I know people can become a low life in a moment of anger, but come on! This one goes beyond anything imaginable. Jealousy about what? Reza Pahlavi's popularity? Popular he is not, except in your eyes and people like you. About his education? He has none. About his successes and personal accomplishments? what success, or accomplishment? He has a very nice family, I grant you that, and confess that I did enjoy the photo. But, so also do a lot of other people, including me. So, what is jealousy about?

I mentioned whom I owe my success to, because you had gotten down to the most primitive forms of attacking people, such as saying that even the English that they know is due to the Pahlavis. I totally agree with you that it is the collective success or failures of a society, or a system, that matters. It is precisely why I oppose the Pahlavis. How much success the Shah's system, government, and society that he had tried to shape it in his image had when in 1357 he practically begged almost anybody who was somebody to take the Premiership, and there was no takers?

Why was it that when the need for deep changes arrived - recall that at the beginning almost nobody wanted or predicted a revolution (including me), but it became a revolution after it became clear that the Shah's government was a house of cards - there was no moderate, secular opposition to work with him?

People like medo not claim that the Shah, and especially Reza Shah, did nothing for Iran. Reza Shah did a lot, and the Shah did some. But, borrowing your own arguments, it is the collective list of accomplishments and failures that counts, not one success here and another one there. In my view, the Shah's most important legacy was creating a system that when the time came, there was no one to turn to but the reactionary mullahs.

That is why I oppose the Pahlavis.

Since you lecture the rest of us about learning the history, then, perhaps you should consider this. This is not "daaei jaan Napoleon" type of thing that we can attribute everything to "Ingilis haa," but far more serious than that.

Emotinal ? Having Emotions does not imply being Emotional. Of course I feel something when there is discussion or insults distributed randomly. I suppose you never express your emotions ? Not surprising Fish are Khoon Sard and Koon LaghIN SHORT They have NO personality.

I belong to the Kingdom of Mamals. Quite proud of that Too !

If that was the case I would not even bother to respond or pursue any form of dialogue even if it is with a Fish ...

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=m81DDhN2xog

Please ask your fellow Republicans and fellow Hezbollahi's if they look UP to their People ? If bashing our people while shouting their salavats and Hate Slogans is more fair than calling what the Iranians in their own great majority would agree and that is that the generation that did the Revolution was Namak Nashnas or at least misguided is downplaying our compatriots or belittling them then I really don't know what you call Namak Shenas ?

What is incredible is the way you guys label people even when describing monarchists even those who are not for a totalitarian regime that is the Constitutionalists. If I would ever come to support the monarchy it would be in a constitutional form not a dictatorial system with Reza Pahlavi or any other candidate to the throne if any. I happen not to be part of any party so I feel all the more free to express myself on the subject.

What do you imagine these monarchists to be  ? A bunch of Aristocrats sitting in Paris Cafe with powdered wigs ? Most Iranians who support the monarchy even today belong to middle class families. THAT was the Case of most people living under the Shah's reign including civil servants be them ministers or ambassadors.

You have a very distorted image of Iran during the Pahlavi's and dishonestly AND deliberately are boiling the society of the time between Aristocrats and the rest of the population. What are you talking about and what evidence are you delivering ? NOTHING !

You accuse monarchists of not doing anything or not caring about the predicament of Iranians back home. Oh Wow then tell me what have the Republicans or former revolutionaries who supported a religious theocracy and now call themselves secular republicans do to unite the democratic opposition and help work towards a common an unambiguous platform to bring change and democracy to Iran as an alternative to the current bloody regime ?

Wake Up guys or learn your history. I am not an unconditional defender of Reza Pahlavi. I consider he has done quite poorly in uniting the opposition despite genuine efforts but his major drawback has been to step into the political arena. He comes across more as a politician today rather than a Crown Prince who stays above political divisions. I regret that but on the otherhand I am nearly certain that had he stayed out of the current struggle for Power, ALL of you guys would critisize him for NOT Doing anything.

Be A little honest and look in the mirror from time to time before critisizing others. Republicans have done little in suggesting anything noticeable in the past 30 years that this theocracy has taken root. Other than saying things of general knowledge about how important democracy is what have they said or done that would make them ANY Better or MORE Efficient than their fellow monarchist or Constitutionalist compatriots ?

You seem to have such a close minded approach to the realities of Iran as a country and of existing political systems in our modern era. What is so obsolete about the monarchy in a Constitutional form ? Ask the British, Spanish, Belgians or all Europes current monarchies. How come they don't consider their system as obsolete or un democratic ?

The Monarchy has been restored throughout history in countries where the monarchy had a much shorter history than Iran. The British even beheaded their King Charles Ist, the Belgians sent their King to exile for collaborating with the Germans during WWII and the Spaniards put Juan Carlos ( whose father was just as impopular as the late Shah) thanks to Franco one of the worst dictators of the 20th century. In all these cases the Restoration was NOT that of an Absolute monarchy but a fully Democratic one which was in addition Secular and Constitutional.

History is different for every country and nothing can say that it will work in Iran but I do not see ANY incompatibility between a fully democratic secular mindset and that of a Constitutional Monarchy. Any authority on legal and constitutional law or juridiction could confirm this assessment.

If Reza Pahlavi were to claim that he wants to restore his fathers dynasty and give back the rights of the Aristocracy Qajar or Pahlavi and all the priviledges then I would give credit to your arguments BUT That is Not even the case nor has he even claimed to want to be King. He went as far as suggesting the idea of a Referandum to determine the choice of the future DEMOCRATIC system of government and therefore jeapordizing his own political would be legitimacy. What Have the Republicans suggested in exchange apart from asking him further to jump of the cliff ?

Its Incredible, I could even imagine you guys would be fully satisfied if the entire family would commit suicide like that poor Leila. Maybe we should have massacred the Pahlavi family like the Romanoff's or Beheaded Farah and her daughters like Marie Antoinette ?

You guys are pathetic but the sad thing is not your comments the sad thing is that YOU GUYS Don't have the guts to stand for ANYTHING Even less your Namak Nashnass Compatriots who are suffering daily and all the brave Iranian women and youth who constitute 70 % of todays population and who were not even born during the Revolution and who certainly have NO BLAME for the current mess.

BUT YOU GUYS DO !

Sleep well while all our journalists and human rights activists are rotting in the dungeons of the Islamic Republic not only because of the people running our country But because YOU are simply prolonging their predicament by blaming the wrong people you think are your enemies in the name of baseless arguments.

Insult the Pahlavis what do I care ? Thats not going to change my personal opinion whether for or against them. You are not teaching me or convincing me to think otherwise when I see your childish behaviors.

I don't need to justify my loyalties or personal convictions or postings. I express them when I feel I have a point to make be it regarding the monarchy, Films Art or History. I have the right to do it and you have the freedom to critisize me or dissaprove but stop preaching your "Do Gheroon" Morality to me as if I you had all the virtues in the world but still don't dare register under your real name or post your photos.

Well you at least have posted your first name, Congrats now put up the other "gheroon" instead of hiding behind false or neutral identities.

Your sarcasms and irony won't discourage or sadden me.

Shab Khosh from Paris ... Sleep Tight cause I will.

It is always very interesting to see monarchists show their true feelings about the Iranian people in a moment of anger.

I don't know any other group or political party in the world resenting, despising and looking down on their own people as much as the Iranian monarchists do. I can't even count the number of times I have heard a monarchist stating that Iranians "deserve" whatever misery they are in, or that they are "namak nashnas" and ungrateful of the "favors" that the Royal family did for them as their "subjects", or how "ugly" the masses look compared to the beautiful and graceful Pahlavi family...etc!!

And you wonder why people kicked these snobbish egomaniacs out of the country!

There have also been posts related to that half-Indian murderer some of you insist upon worshipping.

A laughable Haftseen by the Pahlavis

by Cyko (not verified) on

I expected a nice and proper Haftseen by a family who claims to be true Iranians.

Their choice of flower is wrong.
Some "seens" are missing and why the hell are easter eggs on the table??
Where is the mirror? I guess its not needed since all around in their house there are pictures of themselves. How pethatic is that?

I guess they are more Americanized than i thought.
They didnt even bother to adopt a more traditional way of haftseen example like the floating orange in the water.

Hey Reza, next time when you want to set up a Haftseen, why dont you google it first and see how its done properly.
I expect you and your family to have a flawless Haftseen next year.

No...This family does not deserve to be an idol
for other Iranian families.

As for my Persian it is much better than you think. Also what makes you claim that knowing the language should be a pre-requisite to loving a culture, people or country ? France's President is Hungarian First generation and the current Pope is German and the former was Polish. Does that make them less French or Christian ?

Do I need to prove I am Aechemenid to praise Persepolis or claim that Ferdowsi's Shahnameh is a Great work of poetry ?

Should I eat a fish like you to prove that your name can't be WANDA ?

You give IRI too much credit. They have destroyed Iranians identity more than any dynasty in history? Before Khoemeini no one even knew where Iran was. In 30 years they have "tried" to get rid of Iranian identity but they've come to realize that they can't. They can't get rid of Norooz, movies, music or anything else. People have their say and IRI as we know it today will be gone. It may evolve into something good.

Pahlavis did some things but those times are gone. Take what IRI has done since Pahlavis, remove the IRI and what do you see? Still Iran.

Kadivar, your slip is showing

by Anonymous-today (not verified) on

Mr. Kadivar, your wounded monarchist slip is showing. Funny how the civilized veneer drops and the likes of Kadivar show their true colours. Wouldn’t you like to get your hands on these guys, Daruis (Daryush is, by the way, the true Iranian name not the Latinized version). Perhaps set up prisons and torture houses again, hang them by their necks ‘till their tongues stick out, bring back Reza Khan, the whole schmeal. I asked you once before and ask you again: what is your investment in the Pahlavis and all that monarchy stuff? How is your life affected by the return of the monarchy? You didn’t answer me then and babbled on something about your childhood. You keep talking about being a member of Diaspora and an exile but you are not. You’re an ethnic Iranian Frenchman who by his own admission was discouraged from learning the Persian language by his parents in Iran because apparently the language of future for them would be a European language. I don’t begrudge you, Kadivar, you were just a child but please spare us “my father and his father built Iran” whine.

And here is one for the other side. Please stop telling other people what an Iranian family looks like. The Pahlavis, in this photo, look like a typical middle-class Iranian family. Spare me the real Iranian family nonsense. If you’re deriding the Pahlavis because the Shah was a butcher then also deride Ahamdinejad regardless of what his family looks like because he is a butcher too. This so-called pious man used to fire the coup de grace into the heads of political prisoners in Evin.

To Mamad Fish Faces and pseudo democrats in disguise.

Civilized, Westernized, the Grateful, the Artist, the Pahlavi idolater ? ... Hmm interesting adjectives. One of the interesting things about you guys is not much your weak arguments but the dose of personal jealousy you thrive upon when it comes to expressing your political or ideological views or opinions. You start accusing monarchists for their lack of tolerance but start your arguments with strongly passionate hateful comments about Farah's Plastic Nose Surgery or Reza's belly. You indulge in all types of unfounded accusations based virtually on all the IRI propaganda and revolutionary slogans that have been repeated for more than 30 years by the same people who are in power in the name of your so-called democratic demands and ideals and who in practice are doing the contrary by ALL accounts and not only by figures or documents set forward by so called opposition groups including the Monarchists and Republicans or radicals like the MKO but by Human Rights Organizations like Amnesty International ( who did the same in regard to Human Rights abuses in Iran during the Shah's regime) and you guys Still have the guts to deny it in the name of Westoxication ?!?

Propaganda Mamad Fish Boy ? If you are so good at interpreting all my historical posts as an "unconditional support for the monarchy" or as Pahlavi Idolatry its simply because you are used to being brainwashed by your own propaganda oriented mindset that you are unable to distinguish historical documentation ( including the captions that accompany these photos) with political propaganda. I have sent many many photos and videos that would hardly benefit the Pahlavi's or the Monarchists in general particularly in regard to absolute power and human rights violations but you seem not to have noticed them because in the balance they seem to be outnumbered by the crimes of the IRI. You simply need to look through the pictory section to come to terms with your own contradictions. Should we refuse to look at the Past in the light of what we know today be it positive or negative in the name of political and historical prejudice ? Maybe you are used to denying historical documentation like your IDOL Ahmadinejad who finds it fit to reject the well documented fact that the Holocaust existed and propose to wipe another Nation off the Map of the Middle East but GOD HELP Iran and Iranians even under a secular democratic Republic if THIS IS YOUR Notion of HISTORICAL OBJECTIVITY !

Your problem is not much the Pahlavi's but with coming into grips with the Past in general and with History in particular because you don't want to take responsability or accept errors. You love to take credit whenever it suits you but not responsability. History is not about idolizing the past, its about trying to get as close as possible to the TRUTH of an Era and be able to comprehend it in all its globality in order to understand the present and the problems that our society faces today. Even to comprehend and appreciate the postive things today including under the current regime ( albeit rarely because of it but more because of the way society has evolved ) you need to look at the past in order to have some form of comparison. Your approach to history is similar to all those totalitarian mindsets be them Left or Right Fascist or Communist who want to purify history by wiping the past. As if there was something to purify ? You prefer to wipe Any evidence of what society was like before the revolution simply to justify the most horrible crimes commited today. You and the IRI are certainly not the first to do this, Pol Pot did that in his country by declaring Year Zero and wiping all evidence of his countries past by destroying temples and historical sites. Caueschescu destroyed old churches to build his presidential palace. The IRI destroyed even the tomb of Reza Shah when they claimed to be religious. I thought religion was to respect at least the Dead ?

I give you credit that the IRI has not destroyed as many historical sites even if they have neglected many or have been mismanaging some projects like the Sivand Dam that threaten the tomb of Cyrus the Great but they have done more damage to Iranian identity than any one of the previous dynasties to date. Trying to revise history and distorting EVERY historical fact or even accomplishment in the name of the revolution has been one of the major victories of this theocratic regime. They have managed to brainwash the most reluctant being into believing that Everything they have today is thanks to the Revolution and that NOTHING was ever accomplished before. That is called psychological Torture at Best. If someone even uses the photo of a former Empress in an Art Work you consider that as corrupt. What has the artist who tries to create beauty have to do with them. I suppose then that Kamal-al-Molk's paintings should be burnt and we should destroy Islamic Art too in the name of secularism or Iran's Pre Islamic Past ?

As for owing your own parents for your accomplishments ? I have no problem with that assessment. What does that have to do with our collective accomplishments as a Society and community ? When one refers to an era and the accomplishments or shortcomings of society in a particular time, you need to take into account the government, regime and or policies of the regime or system that allowed this to happen for better or for worse. How else can you claim to speak about an era or ruling family present or past if you want to boil down a societies progress in the name of one person's individual accomplishments ? Its not individualism that defines History but collective memory. You simply consider your personal experiences as superior to that of your parents generation or even your own generation. Is that Objectivity ? History is about collective memory and collective experience. You need to learn at least THAT if you want to learn and advocate democracy ! Its not enough to claim to love Freedom to establish it.

I have no problem with people who are indifferent to the Pahlavi's or who are Republican or are Against the Monarchy. I have a problem with intolerance. Don't claim you are indifferent to the Pahlavis or the reality of the monarchical past of our country by insulting them or the monarchy as such. Why bother to react then ? Hatred is NOT indifference !

The European Press is full of articles on Royalty and Stars does the fact of being interested in them make you a bad person ? Or does it reflect that the Journalists who cover such news as incompetant or politically criminal ?

Also you seem to be so blind that you also associate me with photos I never sent in like the Pahlavi's at the swimming pool ? ... ;0)

//iranian.com/main/singlepage/2008/pahlav...

Would I send it in if I had come across it,You Bet, Of Course why shouldn't I ? Would do the same if I had Ahmadinejad doing the same but I am sure you would agree THAT is very unlikely ...

What stops you to send it your historical documents about Islamic Republics accomplishents ? Or on Mossadegh ( I have done so ) or Iranian Republicans who have families today ? How come in more than 10 years of the Iranian.com so little testimonies of SAVAK victimes have truly appeared on this website. Send in the pictures and interviews or documents. I welcome that if it helps understand the Pahlavi shortcomings and shed light on the darker side of the Dynasty. Go Ahead why haven't you done so in all these years if you have so much proof of what you claim ?

History doesn't belongs to me, to you or anyone be them King, Queen, Ayatollah, Monarchist or Republican !

Happy NowRooz anyways ! ...

Dariush Kadivar, the civilized

by Mammad (not verified) on

Mr. Kadivar, the civilized, westernized, the grateful, the artist, uses so much profanity simply because some people do not like the monarchy, or the propaganda that he subjects them to. Iran has so many problems, yet Kadivar constantly shows us pictures of Reza Pahlavi, by the pool, by Haft Seen, here, there, as if the only thing that remains for us is to sit back to either enjoy his propaganda, or listen to or read what Reza Pahlavi says.

Who are you Mr. Kadivar to decide who should live in the West and who should not? Does the democracy that you apparently believe in not entitle people to their opinion, and the right to express it loud and clear? Check the blogsphere to see what the a great majority of the Americans say about Bush and Bushies. Read the comments that people leave on many articles about Bush and Bushies. So, what should they do? Move elsewhere? The notion that one should agree with everything that the rulers of a country do or, for example, respect your propaganda, or go somewhere else is simply ridiculous.

You may say that people are entitled to their opinion, but not to profanity. Absolutely correct, but are you not doing the same?

The people who comment in this column are divided into two groups: They are either pro- or anti-monarchy. Those who are ardent supporters of the monarchy, like yourself, already know and follow all the beautiful photos of the Pahlavis, and eagerly follow everything that he says and does. Those who are anti-monarchy are apparently, in your opinion, worth nothing, but just a bunch of low-lives that should go back to Iran - the same Iran by the way that you profess to love so much. So, why do you expose them to so much propaganda? Why do you have so much urge in doing this?

It is the Pahlavis that owe their comfortable lives in the West to Iran and Iranians. Who was Reza Shah? A rich man, or from a rich family? Nope, he was from a family in poverty. How did he get his vast "Amlaak-e Saltanati"? Read history books, research books, etc., to learn how. How did the Shah get his fortune? By working tirelessly? How did Reza Pahlavi get his fortune? At least many of us who live in the West owe whatever we have to our own hard work, talent, and smarts.

I, for one, owe nothing, absolutely nothing, to the Pahlavis, but everything to my parents, Iran, and my own hard work.

Dariush, Happy nowrooz!

by Ardeshir Keyvan (not verified) on

Dear Dariush

Happy New year to you. You are a great man. Just ignore the stupid comments. However you brought a very logical point in your comment and this is exactly the problem. Logic contradicts all the beliefs that Hezbollahis have.

Happy Nowrooz to beloved royal family too.

Whatever your thoughts about politics - we as Iranians must strive to have a democratic dialouge. Haven't we learned this much at least? Let's not repeat the sins of the past and approach each other with respect and dignity even in the face of disagreement - isn't that the ultimate test of our humanity and our ability to continue as a community? Haven't we suffered enough from division and tearing each other down? Happy Nowrooz to everyone - may we all have a blessed year and realize that we are all part of an interconnected community.

Be the change you want to see.

Love,
A proud Iranian living in America.

DARIUS KADIVAR

So Darius, you can't handle a bit of criticism directed at your idol? That's the pity of living in the West, I guess. People have a lot against this family. Maybe not you (you have your reasons, you're entitled) - but they too are entitled.

You cannot expect to put a photograph up and not expect this family to get criticized. Reza himself knows this... that is why he avoids the public like AIDS. He never goes out in public places, Iranian celebrations. He's lucky to have a few worshippers, such as yourself. But that's about it.

The people you scorn for not worshipping him or his dad as you do, hate him for the very reason that they are in the West. The shah ruined Iran by abandoning it.... taking leave with his money, DOGS and family. Leaving his supporters and court to be killed. Spare us your sermons about how pitiful the rest of us are for not fixing Iran after he abandoned it. Your argument stinks of desperation.
