What the hell is wrong with us?

With hyper-intelligent people like Pardis S. amongst us, we are still consider ourselves mindless enough to require a bozo as Vali-faghih and an idiot like Mahmood Anatari as our chosen president? Not to mention the endless array of mullas and islamists who claim to have all the answers conveyed to them from 1400 years ago which require oppressing of the people.
