I received sad news today about Hamid Ganjineh, affectionately known to his friends and fans as dAyi Hamid. Manijeh Hajizadeh sent the following email: "... man yeki az doostdArAne site shomA hastam va hamintor yeki az AshnAhAye dAyi Hamid. sorry az inke in khabare nAgovAr ro be shomA midam vali fekr kardam doostAne interneti shAyad bekhAn bedoonan ke dAyi Hamid dige dar miAne mA nist bar asare canceri ke 4 sAle pish garibAnesho gereft va dishab yani 6 Aug sAete 21.30 be khAbe hamishegi raft. yAdesho gerAmi bedArim!"
Hamid was a real gem, full love and humor. During the Internet's beginnings in the early 1990s, Hamid was the most popular writer on the first Iranian news group. Later he began writing some of the funniest stories for iranian.com. He will be dearly missed.

I will never forget you, Hamid
by Gman (not verified) on Thu Sep 20, 2007 07:36 PM PDTdAyi and I met many years ago online on soc.culture.iranian. It wasn't long before we met in person in one of those gatherings of the old SCI friends, and became very good friends. A friendship that lasted all these years and through several more gatherings. I was blessed to have had him as a friend. I am devastated by his loss, but I comfort myself knowing that he is in a better place, and free of pain.
Hamid joon, I love you man. I hope you are as happy where you are as you always were around me.

by Darius Kadivar on Fri Sep 07, 2007 03:29 PM PDTI am sorry to hear about dayi Hamid's demise. I had read his articles over the years without quite knowing who he was. We corresponded through just one email congradulating one another for NowRuz or some other Holliday. I knew he had set up a popular radio show and was making a difference through his unconventional humour.

I am sorry to hear that he passed away so soon. And Boy he looked really handsom, I wonder why he never put up this picture where he looks like one of the Rat Packs in the lines of Dean Martin ? Instead in his ironic way he rather put up his funny one with long hair.

My deepest sympathies to His Family and Loved ones. He will be missed.

Heaven's stock just went up...
by shoosh on Fri Sep 07, 2007 03:02 PM PDTI met Dayi Hamid on the net several years ago. He's the perfect example of someone who's genuinely selfless, bee sheeleh peeleh, always ready to laugh and make you laugh, taking life and himself not too seriously... i wish i was more like him.
In june i was over in Europe for a conference. Afterwards i got a rental car & drove across czech republic, Austria, ... while en route, i heard from a friend that Dayi had come down with cancer. This was quite a shock as he was the symbol of health and vigor. Called him up (hadnt talked in 7+ yrs) and it was as if we had hit the "pause" button again on the VCR and picked up exactly where we'd left off. Despite his illness he was his charming self, wearing his heart on his sleeve... a detour to Switzerland was definitely necessary...
Arrived in Zurich late at night, managed to find a hotel, and called Dayi. We decided to meet up for breakfast and hang out. I'll never forget the hug when we finally found each other at the train station. So warm, so real. We reminisced about the early days of the web, the various koor o katchals we'd met along the way, how we'd all changed, etc. it was a wonderful conversation, peppered w his usual wit and humor...
In the afternoon his lovely wife and two little daughters joined us for a buffet lunch. It was wonderful seeing him derive so much joy and happiness from his family in these trying times. His body was frail from all the radiation, but his spirit was stronger than ever... this was the best detour i ever took.
Dayi, say hi from me to Vigen, Farhad, Soosan, Haydeh, ...
We'll never forget you.

Sad news...
by Parham on Fri Sep 07, 2007 02:43 PM PDTI had heard about his illness through a friend, but hearing about death is always shocking. I hope he'll rest in peace and his soul will be as happy as he made us in yesteryears.
he will be missed
