Hikers’ Lawyer Arrested, Interrogated, and Released in Tehran

On Tuesday morning, security forces entered the home of Massoud Shafiee, the lawyer representing the recently released Americans, and after several hours of searching his home and offices, transferred him to Evin Prison.

“Yesterday at 7:00 a.m., five security forces entered my home with my arrest warrant. It was strange to see an arrest warrant issued for me, as arrest warrants are usually issued for murderers or fugitives,” Shafiee told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran a few hours after his release.

“Going to prison is not a problem, it’s the best time to get some rest, something I need. I asked the gentlemen yesterday, ‘why don’t you consider the dignity of the Judiciary? Why would you want to arrest me?,” Shafiee added.

“They entered my home and searched the entire house, including the safe, the closets, everything for one or two hours. Even though they were respectful, this act was wrong in essence. They came right after my wife left the house. I guess they didn’t want to upset my wife. Then they asked me to wake up the rest of the sleeping family members. After searching the home, they took my passport and several other things and brought me to my office. There they confiscated the computer and hard drive, documents, the case files of the two Americans, and several other documents and took me to Evin,” he told the Campaign.

They Confiscated His Passport

by Faramarz on

Apparently he was about to leave Iran to visit his daughter and as expected, they took his passport away.

The Regime is so fearful nowadays.

catch 22

north korea lite.  the nerve of some people who think that iran is on a democratic path similar to the united states.  iri just needs reform, they say.  how do you reform the juidicial system?  vote people in to reform it?  what if they don't count your vote?  protest that your vote wasn't counted?  then the security will jail and torture you and try you in the same kangaroo court that you were trying to reform.

The hikers should've learned Farsi too!

by Esfand Aashena on

In addition to getting the visa they should've also bought some Rosetta stone and learned Farsi too!  Taking an Iranian wife would have helped too!

Everything is sacred

Then the pro-Regime folks here should be completely disappointed in the Regime judiciary that let these guys go.

The timing of their release coincides with the announcement that a Hezbollah military leader, Ali Mussa Daqduq who is in prison in Iraq for the killing of 4 US soldiers is going to receive a military tribunal in the US.

Let's see what happens there.

Faramarz jaan they knew all that!

by Esfand Aashena on

They were there for 2 years and they probably know more about these 3 than we do, including being a Jew who has travelled to Israel before.  Remember they were "convicted" of being a spy and his travel to Israel was probably their main "evidence".

They just downplayed it so they could cash in later.  Travelling to Israel is a crime for Iranian citizens not citizens of other countries.  Christine Amanpour has travelled to Israel and gone back and forth to Iran before.

Also, in reference to your visa comment, who goes and gets visas from all neighboring countries that they do NOT plan to visit?!  I'm going to France so I'm going to get a British visa too, even though I do NOT plan to vist Britain?!  They wouldn't let someone in the country he asked for kadkhoda?!  They have hard enough time getting a visa from Iraq and so they'd want to delay their trip by asking for an Iranian visa even though they do NOT plan to visit Iran?!

Everything is sacred

The Fish That Got Away!

by Faramarz on

The Islamic Regime was unaware of the fact that the hiker Josh Fattal's father was an Iraqi Jew who fled to Israel decades ago and then settled in the US. They also did not know that Josh Fattal visited Israel prior to going to Syria and Iraqi Kurdestan and getting arrested on the border with Iran. These two facts are generally enough to make one a Mossad agent and the Islamic Republic treatment that goes with it.

Now that the Regime has found these out, the only recourse is to detain and harass the court-appointed lawyer. After all what kind of a lawyer is he that did not know such details about his client!

They should take his license away and flog him!

p.s. The Iran-Iraq border is not a war zone. Thousands of pilgrims pass through it without passports or visa on a regular basis.

More stupidity by the Islamic Republic!

by Esfand Aashena on

As if the public opinion is not already against Iran's judicial system, they arrest the court appointed Lawyer!  I hope Islamic Republic looses more and more on this issue.  I also hope they arrest the Judge!

Everything is sacred
