A new national sex survey is out. Published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, it reveals who's doing what, with whom, and how. It clarifies the prevalence of gay sex, teenage intercourse, and oral gratification. But the big story is the increase in anal sex reported by women—and its possible connection to female orgasms.

Let's start with the foreplay: a few other trends worth noting.

 1. What teens are doing. By ages 14-15, 10 percent of boys say they've had vaginal sex. By ages 16-17, the number is up to 30 percent. By ages 18-19, it's above 60 percent. For girls, the trajectory is almost identical. Oral sex follows a similar trend. At ages 14-15, 9 percent of boys say they've performed cunnilingus. By ages 16-17, 20 percent say they've done it, and by ages 18-19, 61 percent say they've done it. Among girls aged 14-15, the number who say they've given a boy oral sex is 13 percent. By ages 16-17, it's 29 percent. By ages 18-19, it's 61 percent. If you're turning 20 and you haven't gone down on somebody, you're in the minority.

But I do believe that an antidote to the lunacies of religious fundamentalism lies in a healthy and regular sexual outlet. Let's put it this way, if these religious fundamentalist men (and woman) were having more regular sex (including anal sex) with partners they loved, guaranteed the religious fundamentalism would be shaken out of them after a while.

I totally agree.  In fact, I have always believed that a lot of the fanaticism that we see in various Abrahamic religious stems from the fact that their orthodoxy tends to adhere to strict bans on sexual contact and to strict separation of sexes.  We are sexual creatures.  Like any other living thing on this planet, reproduction is the ultimate goal of our existence.  Consensual sex between adult human beings is a beautiful thing, and certainly nothing to feel guilty or sinful about.

One wonders whether the adult porn industry has anything to do with influencing  longterm trends like this.

Anyway, my philosophy says sex is good, sex makes life worthwhile, people should be having more sex, good sex is always the best and having regular sex is the difference between maintaining psychological health and losing it! Of course this is not an invitation to permissiveness. But I do believe that an antidote to the lunacies of religious fundamentalism lies in a healthy and regular sexual outlet. Let's put it this way, if these religious fundamentalist men (and woman) were having more regular sex (including anal sex) with partners they loved, guaranteed the religious fundamentalism would be shaken out of them after a while. Wilhelm Reich proved this hypothesis in his On the Mass Psychology of Fascism. I invite people to read this book to see how he connects sexual repression and fascistic totalitarian impulses on the social level, whether we're talking fascism of the secular or religious kind.  

Also by bringing this topic up, there is no reason why a wider cultural dialogue about sex can't be happening amongst our people. We are a generally lusty and horny culture but still function under the warped schizophrenic contradiction looking at sex as something dirty. Sex is not dirty. Sex is sacred. Never forget sex is the life mechanism itself and, as far as I am concerned, one of God's greatest gift. In other words Sex is Worship!
