US intelligence has shown Iran could launch an attack against Europe with 'scores or hundreds' of missiles, prompting major changes to US missile defences, Pentagon chief Robert Gates said on Thursday.

President Barack Obama in September cited a mounting danger from Iran's arsenal of short and medium-range missiles when he announced an overhaul of US missile defence plans.

The new program, called the 'phased adaptive approach,' uses sea and land-based interceptors to protect NATO allies in the region, instead of mainly larger weapons designed to counter long-range missiles.

'One of the elements of the intelligence that contributed to the decision on the phased adaptive array was the realisation that if Iran were actually to launch a missile attack on Europe, it wouldn't be just one or two missiles or a handful,' Gates told a senate hearing.

'It would more likely be a salvo kind of attack, where you would be dealing potentially with scores or even hundreds of missiles.'

Top US generals have said the new anti-missile system was meant to guard against a potential salvo of missiles from states such as Iran or North Korea.

lets scare the sh@t out of world, namely europe and izrael, so we can attack another country in order to stop WMD's much like iraq had.

 

 

after all iran has oil and izrael is antsy about couple of feshfeshe that iran has produced.

next war iran, bp and goldman sachs will take care of americans at home, who needs al qaida? when we have wall street jews ripping us to homelessness?

Armchair generals oppened their mouths, again!

The title "armchair general" proved to be far more deserving for most of these fascist begots @ IC than I previously believed.

The comparison between US magnification of Iraqi WMD to today's US "fear" of Iran's missiles could not be any further apart.

The US bloated Iraqi capabilities for several reasons among them:

- To gain interntional sympathy for its unreal concerns

- To get a much bigger military budget

- To drum up support among countries such as NATO and some Middle eastern countries to the end to proide troops which would not only make the invasion an international color but also to reduce war costs.

US did not spend a dime to make defenses in the wake of Iraq's alledged "WMD". 

In the case of Iran's missile capabilities, the US is actually spending tons of hard cash to make defenses in several European countries at a time when cash is hard to find in the current US economic conditions.

That is the difference these "armchair generals" keep missing!

Actually the US missile shield is meant to intercept future Israeli rocket attacks on Christian Europe.

Iran in this case is just a red heorring!

for the Sepah to fold.  there are not thousnds, at best close to 100 missiles and most of them are not in functional order or even long range.

Of course Gates would make such a statement. They are making a case against i.r. and numnuts like you help him with that by boasting on the missiles i.r. does not have. It's just like 2003 and Iraq all over again. FAIL!
