The U.S. Treasury on Monday lifted restrictions on exports of software and Internet-based services to Cuba, Iran and Sudan to allow people in those countries to communicate with the outside world.

Easing the ban on U.S. technology companies was requested by the State Departement so that Cubans, Iranians and Sudanese can exercise their universal right to free speech and information.
