West mulls Iran 'change of heart'

Western negotiators say they won two important agreements. Iran will allow inspectors to visit the controversial new plant later this month.

Tehran has also agreed in principle for a large part of the uranium it has already enriched at the Natanz plant to be shipped out of Iran. It would then be processed by Russia and France to a higher grade, for use in a research reactor in Tehran which produces medical isotopes.

It is that second agreement that has excited the West. A senior US administration official called it "a positive interim step to help build confidence".

If the deal is implemented, it could help at least to defer the crisis.

I believe everyone agrees

That war and sanctions on the people are not the answer. I hope the negotiations will calm the situation.

How much of a change of heart is this?

by Bavafa on

Or is it more like the West also spinning it for their own audience.

Iran has always cooperated with the inspectors, at least based on what is obligated based on NTP treaty.

There is a reason for this

by Abarmard on

Right after the events of election, I called my friend and told him that from this point on Iran will rely more on its military to control people, and will get closer to the West, reason being: they believe that their support is lacking. Less public support->more dependent on Western countries for security, similar to her neighbors! This might be the reason.

However it's still to early to tell the whole story.
