Iran press freedom defender slams “arbitrary” arrests of journalists / WashingtonTV

Washington, 1 September (WashingtonTV)—In an interview published on Tuesday, the chairman of Tehran’s Association for the Defense of Press Freedom criticized the Iranian government’s crackdown on journalists in the wake of June’s disputed presidential election, and the prosecution of many of his colleagues.

Mashallah Shamsolvaezin told the German weekly, Der Spiegel, that his association knew of the arrest of 38 Iranian journalists following the 12 June poll, adding that eight had since been released.

“These arrests are completely arbitrary,” he said.
