Note: This is an Editorial, Reflecting the Views of the United States Government
Despite serious problems with the Iranian government, the United States is determined to reach out to the Iranian people. U.S. State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said the U.S. is trying to make connections with Iranians in a number of ways:
"We have had various exchanges. We have made offers of disaster assistance teams. We've had an Iranian disaster assistance team visit here. We've had Iranian artists here."
Mr. McCormack noted that this year Iran's Olympic basketball team was invited by the National Basketball Association to come to the U.S. to play in its summer leagues. And in the State Department itself, said Mr. McCormack, more and more people are being trained in Farsi.
"We are devoting time, resources, and energy to trying to connect directly with the Iranian people," he said:
"It's a great people, it's a great civilization, and by a lot of reports that you hear, the Iranian people want contact with Americans. Unfortunately, they have a government that has taken them farther and farther away from that goal, in terms of the world stage."
President George Bush has asked the Iranian people not to believe slogans that say Americans don't like them, "Because we do, and we respect you," said Mr. Bush. "We have differences with the [Iranian] government, but we honor the... >>>

by soufi on Wed Jul 30, 2008 05:45 PM PDTYou seem to like letter "F". What is going on? How about French Fries or if you still hate "FRENCH", Freedom Fries" as you alias?

by Moderator 1234 on Wed Jul 30, 2008 02:58 PM PDTGreetings. I am the moderator on call this afternoon. Unless some of you tone down your language in addressing each other, I will have to start deleting heavily on this thread. Please keep the dialogue lively while refraining from using foul language and enuendoes inappropriate to civil discourse. Sorry for being a wet blanket to some of you. I leave you with the link of a blog JJ wrote on the subject in June. Have a nice day everybody.

Fred, absolutely right. As
by Farhad Kashani on Wed Jul 30, 2008 02:20 PM PDTFred, absolutely right. As Islamists like Iran, Hamas, Al Qaeda and others claim themselves, the main purpose of their struggle is the application of Islamic laws in Islamic world, all the other BS it has been claimed to be their goals like “anti Imperialism”, “taking down undemocratic Arab governments”, “Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands”,,and others, is just a bunch of crap invented by their allies, the leftists.
And when we talk about Islamic laws, the biggest part of those laws they want to apply, is women-related restrictions like Hijab.
In their sick mind, controlling women and taking away their rights, is the center of their campaign.
Anyone who thinks receiving
by Farhad Kashani on Wed Jul 30, 2008 02:11 PM PDTAnyone who thinks receiving foreign assistance from foreign NGOs, United Nations and International organizations, Human Rights Organizations, and foreign governments who consider the IRI as a common enemy, to fight the barbaric regime in Tehran, is “asking the U.S to execute a coup”, is either extremely naïve, extremely “unintelligent”, or extremely smart. Smart in a way that he/she knows Iranians cannot do this by themselves since the IRI has brutally crushed any movement within Iran to free the country, so, by character assassinating the person, and claiming asking assistance is an “invitation to coup”, is using a Stalin/Castro/Khomeini tactic to trash anyone who is opposing the IRI, and since the vast majority of Iranians oppose the IRI, they are effectively trashing Iranian people.
Also, anyone who assists in the prolonging of the IRIs rule, the government which has been the most savage in Iranian history, the biggest human rights violator in the world, and by far, the biggest threat to world peace, is Iran and its people and its values’ enemy, and is a partner in the crimes committed by the IRI against our country.
Sex-Crazed Islamists
by Fred on Wed Jul 30, 2008 10:22 AM PDTIslamist says of U.S. military personnel: “it is said they screw 80-90 years old grandmas…”
The degeneracy of Islamists and their sex-centric mindset is their well documented lifetime bane. In fact one of the ways one can distinguish between the Islamist /Anti-Semites and their likeminded lefty allies is that unlike their Islamist comrades the lefties seem to have overcome their enslavement to their libidoes.
Re: Islamist understanding of Lady Liberty
by Shiny Head on Wed Jul 30, 2008 07:51 AM PDTDon't moan and cry Fred, he probably meant it metaphorically!
You know, no one sleeps with a status, even if he didn't have it for 3 years (like most US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanestan -- some of them are so desparate that it is said they screw 80-90 years old grandmas over there, but never a status!)

Don't be jealous now honey; after her I will come to you!
Islamist understanding of Lady Liberty
by Fred on Wed Jul 30, 2008 03:53 AM PDT“I rather sleep with "lady ..." than get emancipated by anyone!” how typical Islamist to surrender to primitive libido rather than human aspiration for freedom.
Re: U.S. earmarked a larger sum to emancipate Shaban bi Mokh
by mostaghel on Tue Jul 29, 2008 09:44 PM PDTThose who wish US or any foriegn government to spead moneies as they did in 1953 and arrange another coup, are either stupid or are Iranian nation's enemies.
U.S. earmarked a larger sum to emancipate Shaban bi Mokh
by BabakBabak (not verified) on Tue Jul 29, 2008 08:14 PM PDTThis same fund helped emancipate the coup d'etats of Pinochet in Chile, Arnaz in Guatemala, Suharto in Indonesia, and Mobutu in Zaire--to name just a few of Uncle Sam's clients. Uncle Sam has already opened its "funding spigots" to the bombers and cutthroats of Abdolmalek Rigi's Jundallah, PEJAK, and "Ahwazi" separatists. You can always place your trust in the U.S. government: you have nothing to fear.

Fred, great points.
by Farhad Kashani on Tue Jul 29, 2008 06:03 PM PDTFred, great points. mostaghel, you can tell your beloved IRI regime officials that the Iranians are coming after them detrmined and the world, including the U.S, is helping them. Just wait and see.
Re: Helping Iranians helping themselves
by mostaghel on Tue Jul 29, 2008 05:45 PM PDTUnless US asks China for loans and if chinese agree, where can it get those monies you are talking about? I rather sleep with "lady ..." than get emancipated by anyone! Truth will set you FREE!
Keep dreaming !
Helping Iranians helping themselves
by Fred on Tue Jul 29, 2008 04:01 PM PDTIn the name of Lady Liberty when is U.S. going to raise the paltry amount earmarked to emancipation of Iran and Iranians? For the sake of avoiding war, preserving the lives of Iranians and U.S. military personnel and returning sanity to the Middle East get serious. Stop allies doing business with the Islamist regime and open the funding spigots. Strike funds for factory workers, teachers, transportation personnel and assurances to the oil industry workers that their families would not go hungry will save lives and be a whole lot cheaper than a hot war
