Flagging comments on Iranian.com

I get a chuckle from the latest game plan of the people who want to continue to be rude, insulting, violent, slandering and overall a-holes. Some of these people have never cared about fairness and equality and they sure as hell do not do so now. Flagging, apparently has become just another tool in the arsenal of throwing mud and character assassination.

Mr. Javid has created the flagging system and it is a very good method of bringing things to his attention regarding the rules the he himself has set for this website. I don't think his rules are good enough, personally. Allowing all-but-confirmed pro-War agents to advocate genocide and suffering of the Iranian people every single day using the latest repetetive psychological warfare techniques is almost a crime in my opinion. He has rejected people from organizations such as Pentagon to post here, but it seems he is turning a blind eye to people who simply do not disclose their organizational affiliation. I'm saying this to show I have a serious problem with his rules.

I'm sure it's not perfect from many perspectives, but most people know the despite all the nonsense attacks and conspiracy theories, he is probably the most fair person for this job. In addition, he is the best person to decide what is good for his own site.

Lately, however, I see another campaign in the same mob mentality that the usual character assassins and slanderes use. When a oomment is flagged, they blame whoever they disagree with and attack them as if this was something "wrong" or unfair to do. Don't let them fool you. Flagging is an option that should be used to make this a more tolerable and civilized space. These people will never admit that they violated the rules and they always have their standard finger-pointing excuses and conspiracy theories. Flagging affords a third-party judge to come in and decide if they are right.

These people don't want that because it will expose their own hypocrisy. So they are now trying to create a culture where flagging is seen as a "sin". Don't fall for it. If you think someone is being hostile, slanderous and profane, go ahead and flag it. I do. I am also a 100% sure that the replies to this post will contain some of the same people who will promptly ignore the subject matter and attack me personally.

As I have joked with these people before, if it makes you feel better, you can pretend I (Q) am doing all the flagging. There is absolutely nothing wrong and no shame in doing so since the ultimate decision is not up to the flagger but up to the site.

Although what you write never warrants being read "carefully", as you suggested to me, but I made an exception this time and did so.

Still, I don't know what the heck you were talking about. I am not familiar with the term Chelo-L, so I can't have a response.

I regret to see that a man of your caliber considers my heart felt criticism of the policies concerning this site as a personal jab.

You perhaps sir should have refrained from writing a piece in which there are potentials for harsh yet truthful criticism of this site and the publisher.

Two humble questions:

Where is Ostaad?

Where is Shazdeh?

And most importantly, why are they not here in this site, why is it that two of the  powerful writers have chosen to leave this site?

When you flag a comment, a

by benross on

When you flag a comment, a dialogue box opens to ask you the reason. You give your reason. The editor evaluates the situation and makes a decision. It's as simple as that. There is no need for unending blogs and comments about flagging and who did what.

The underlying situation of this crisis however, is of a quite different nature. And it is very simple. There are those who are for freedom of speech versus those who aren't.

Using freedom of speech to support those who repress it, is not part of our dialogue here... or anywhere else for that matter. This is the weakness of western democracy in my view, allowing someone to send death threat to creators of South Park, with impunity. This is not part of a modern social contract and freedom of speech that it defends. The line of dialogue should remain open, only to inform them about the nature of this social contract. So that they learn better. That's all. They are in no position to tell us what to do and what not to do. They have to be defeated, and once the new social contract is established in Iran, they can use their part of freedom of speech, not being able to repress it for the others.

This is the deal.

Who hands you the IP addresses?

by SamSamIIII on

Is it the same tech friend of mine on the site who keeps reassuring me for the last 2 yrs that my ip & other infos are safe & private here?. He even mentioned that the site has no other info about the folks but their IP. Either you are joking which is a bad joke at the expence of the site reputation and JJ must himself flag you or you are truthfull which is equally damaging & unethical.

Dear Jamshid,

please see comment below addressed to Kadivar, "chelo-L", and read it carefully.

regards.

ayhab. your comment and your personal jab is disappointing. I expected finger pointing and conspiracy theories from some people but not you. If you must know, I too have been warned, deleted and my flags aren't always addressed.

Also, I figured you mature enough, with enough "ensaf" to be beyond this school yard "block my account if you must" when you know that Javid would never do anything to you for this comment which is not a violation of anything.

fair and balanced NOT

by capt_ayhab on

These groups and followers of fair and balanced motto of FauxNation.

They see themselves entitled to be obnoxious  so as long as they PRETEND be Iranian, in their own twisted way.

Asides from that, this site is the most out of control, highly censored, most biased of any that I have seen.

So as long  favorite pets of the publisher flags you, regardless of your defensive comment or posture, you are give the warring and tongue lashing

Good for Ostaad for boycotting this place until a coherent and concise abuse policy is put in place. But so as long as journalistic ethics are absent from the gentleman of the publisher, this will not happen.

Block my account if you wish Mr. Javid. For by now I am  certain of your biased judgment and utterly unprofessional journalistic standards.

PR firms!

This one cracked me up really! The best way to go about things is not to take media seriously. Then you don't have to worry about PR firms. In any event lies and propaganda are uses on all sides IRI included.

As for flagging I generally do not approve of it. People should be free to post. I rather have a way to filer out posts I don't want to see. There was a feature on the old UNIX newsgroups that let you do that.

For you to be taken seriously, you first need to cure your hypocrisy. You can't complain about certain attitude when you yourself are inflicted by it. How many times do I have to tell you that?

Regarding those who directly promote war in this very site, they should be put on a leash. However, those who directly promote the murdering and raping IRI should also be put on a leash. This would include you.

The fact that the killing and lootting committed by the IRI is in fact done by Iranian citizens (the Islamist version) does not make it any more tolerable than if it was committed by foreigners.

As I said in another blog, morality and conscience justifies and even dictates the placement of a leash on both sides of these two extremes.

Once I learned that the IP addresses go to PR firms

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

I decided to stop debating here.

You'd be surprised what the "Internet" and "Iranian.com user" really are. It's just a new playground for PR firms to push interests, including war.

Do you smell that? America is burning. There's a PR firm around the corner to tell us it's Iran's fault :)
