“Darkness rises from the grave, seeming as limitless as the sky above us,” wrote Peter Hoeg of Greenland in ‘Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow’. Here too the dark sky sits very low. Sharing the same latitude as the novel’s setting, the Kiruna region is known as the last untouched wildness in Europe. I’m above the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland. The landscape is kilometer after kilometer after kilometer of fresh, unblemished snow, interrupted on occasion by charcoal-colored wiry tree branches. I’m here to test Volvo cars on ice. The Swedish firm takes pride in its cars’ ability to function under extreme weather conditions. So much so that it started testing its cars in Swedish Lapland as far back as the 1960s>>>FULL TEXT

The Northern Lights would have been more impressive.

Although, the timing is probably not right, a little glimpse of the northern light would have been far more valuable. I didn’t think Volvos were this inspiring 

In Picture 1 Narges is like she is out of the elements yet having fun.  Shivering, cold, perhaps wrong shoes and not enough warm clothes or right clothes.  Whereas in picture 2 the guy is khabar-dar and ready to go!  1 - 2 - 3 - 4.  ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR!

Folks, I believe she was on assignment testing the Volvo for work.  I could be wrong, but I don't think she actually bought a Volvo.  I am enjoying all of your comments regardless though.

I bought a new Volvo S80 back in 2000. I had nothing but troubles with it (regular visits to mechanics every month!) At the time, I fell in love with its nice interior and exterior design and with its legendary Swedish quality, safety, and reliability. Unfortunately, I didn't know back then that the Ford Company had taken over and ruined the good reputation of Volvo. It was a relief that I finally got rid of the junk and switched to a Japanese car. I certainly don't recommend Volvo to anyone.

Volvo -v- Subaru Forester

Thanks to Behrang for the video clip. I bought a Forester ( Limited) 7 yeras ago at the advise of a friend who had driven 900,000km in his old Subaru car and said he was very happy. I took his advise and I have not had any problem with mine, but it was nice to see the research / test drive.

you should have bought a Subaru Forester ... its much better than Volvo specially in Snow and off roading...I had both (had a volvo and have a forester) and i can swear to you Forester is 10 times better... i have driven in snow with both of them and Subaru has the best AWD in its class... and its cheaper than Volvo too...Volvo use to be great until Ford bought it out and now its not as good as it use to be...
