Eternal beauty

I was thinking of going to the Louvre on Tuesday but it was closed. I wasn't sure where to go so I took the metro to one of the stations near the center of town. By Accident, I got out and I was on Champs-Elysees Avenue. I walked towards Arch du Triumph and I saw one of the Paris tour buses. I thought this was a good opportunity to get familiar with the main attractions and then I could choose which one to see. When the bus stopped by the D'Orsey art museum, I got off and went inside. The museum building itself (originally a station) and the works of art were a feast for the eye and mind. I wondered what is it that compels human beings to create and recreate beauty? Let me take you on a tour.
Wikipedia: The Musée d'Orsay is a museum on the left bank of the Seine, housed in the former railway station, the Gare d'Orsay, an impressive Beaux-Arts edifice built between 1898 and 1900. It holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography, and is probably best known for its extensive collection of impressionist masterpieces by such painters such as Monet, Degas, Renoir, and Cezanne. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986 >>>

by SamSamIIII on Wed Jul 29, 2009 06:15 PM PDTafter visiting Louvre with my little princess, found out it,s near impossible to flag a cab in Paris..so we kept walking & flagging until we finally got to our hotel on Grennell blvd...she was so tired and grouchy and said ; dad, next time we go for a 3 hour walk in Louvre, make sure you are a good taxi grabber so we dont have to walk extra hour to get back ::))..she has tons of pix with practicaly every statue on Louvre ::))! may be i should send it as pix essay next time...
nice pictorial & make sure you have a ride or metro routes after louvre visit..

Beauty

I think what compels human beings to create and recreate beauty is our spirit's ongoing battle to distance itself from that which hurts and ails and haunts us, seeking refuge in what puts our souls at ease. Paging through these photographs, I, too, took a brief refuge from all the ugly images of hate and destruction in our world. We can never be too busy or too distraught to take the time and let our souls feast on beauty created and recreated by the fortunate ones who can.

I love this place more than the Louvre because it is smaller and you get to see alot of Impressionist paintings and an ecclectic choice of European Art work.
I was wondering if you had missed the Origine Du Monde of Courbet which is certainly one of the most provocative paintings on display to this day.
But I am glad you did not miss it ;0)

PS: The Station which is now the Orsay Museum was inaugurated I think by the Russian Tzar Alexander III when he arrived directly from Moscow on Train. And I think the famous Bridge on the Seine was built on the same occassion to celebrate French Russian Ties.
