I visited my dear cousin -- dokhtar khaaleh -- at her office at National Public Radio (NPR), while I was in Washington DC. We had lunch and exchanged latest family gossip. Never a dull conversation :o) This is her bio on the NPR site: Davar Iran Ardalan is the Senior Supervisory Producer at Weekend Edition Sunday. With over sixteen years experience in public broadcasting, Ardalan has produced hundreds of stories from profiles of Iran's Revolutionary Guard and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani to actor and philanthropist Paul Newman to music features on legend Herbie Hancock and guitarmaker Paul Reed Smith to a cooking segment with culinary wizard Alton Brown. Prior to coming to Weekend Edition Sunday in January 2008, Ardalan worked as as Supervisory Producer on Morning Edition, the #1-rated morning radio program in the United States>>>

Davar Ardalan

by Mehrdokht (not verified) on

Long time listener of NPR I had heard Ms. Ardalan and had respect for her work long before I read her book, "My Name is Iran". I was disappointed her calling Masjid Suleiman "Sulieman's Mosque". Consider if one referred to New York as "York-e Tazeh" or St. Louis as "Louis-e Moghadas" in a book either writen in or translated to Persian. That is not done!
I still enjoy Ms. Ardalan's work, just the same.

She's a doll

I love listening to NPR and I love Ms. Ardalan. She makes us proud to be an eloquent member of the American media (rare phenomenon for Iranians). She speaks beautifully and is just adorable.

In my opinion (just based on the limited view of JJ's family), the family's gene pool overall has a strong talent for social science, literature & political science.

Peace!

She is great Iranian

by Alborzi (not verified) on

Its good to see Iranians despite all the prejudices
make their greatness known. I hope she will be more prolific and publish, she should teach the world about Persia, before the rednecks start again.

Equally proud

by mahmoudg on

I am equally proud of her.  She is an alumni of the Iranzamin High school , which has produced many great Iranian-Americans like Davar, Rudy Bakhtiar, Mohesen Moazami, Shahin Shahida, Speher Hadad, etc. etc.

Way to go Iran....

Beat me to it!

by Party Girl on

Good going JJ! In my queue of "interesting Iranians," I was actually going to recommend her as Iranian of the Day with this 2006 video clip, in which she talks about the love story of your grandparents, Helen and Abol Ghassem Bakhtiar.

She is remarkable and she is beautiful and she makes me proud as an Iranian. Thank you for sharing your photos with us. I hope it was NPR-worthy gossip!
