A powerful and sobering portrayal of …

by reader1 on

.. a nation stuck in the past. This is how I remember the country when I left it  well over 3 decades ago -  poor then and poorer now. I feel that from time to time I need to be reminded of my humble background – it always does me a lot of good. My thanks and admiration goes to Kam for theses excellent photographs.

Mash Ghasem

The best collection of photos from Iran I've seen on I.C.

by Mash Ghasem on

great sense of humor. Snap shots of everyday life and hustle rarely captured these days, # 10  almost makes you want to wretch. A great collection thanks for sharing.

Mort Gilani

Very Powerful!

Fascinating images of a defeated nation! I wonder if the people in these pictures have hopes for a better life.

Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime

3.69 orders of magnitude worse than the worst of the Shah's era!

by Everybody Loves Somebody ... on

Just look at these people, the appearance of their unhealthiness, the intensity of their sadness, the immensity of their destitute, the extent of their regression, and their overall conditions are radiating out of these images!

No wonder 30 years after his passing more and more people say God bless his soul! I wonder how many of those in the photos say that!?

The question is where does the IRR petrol revenue of average of $100.00 per barrel go? According to the recent stats, IRR exports 4,000,000 barrels/day x $100/barrel x 365 days/year = $146 000 000 000!?

Where does the 100 to 146 Billion dollars per year or 1 to 1.46 Trillion dollars per decade go?

Some possible places that this money may end up:

  1. Mullahs' pockets,
  2. IRGC's pockets,
  3. Iraq Shi'iat,
  4. Lebanese Hezbollah,
  5. Syrians,
  6. Afghanistan,
  7. Russia to pay for the Chernobyl-like nuke reactor,
  8. North Korea to pay for their junkyard-like high tech,
  9. IRR supporters around the world (including some on IC)

Hey no wonder there is nothing left for the folks in the photos!?

Abject poverty. Huge gap

by vildemose on

Abject poverty. Huge gap between the rich Northern Teheran, you will see conspicuous signs of obscene wealth in the hands of the nouveaux rich that have emerged after the demise of the old parasitic class constituted during the Shah's. And if you move to the huge slums in Southern Teheran, you will see abject poverty and destitution. Most Iranians have benefited very little from the new theocratic dictatorship, they only give them crumbs to buy their loyalty or to supress the dissenters. Geda Parvari; adding  a brand new class, Geda class, ( Basij on subsidies/welfare; dependent on the state for their very basic livelihood) is the IRI biggest "accomplishment".

I have not been back to Iran for 33 years, and like others your collection gave me a good idea what it is like in Tehran today. My favourite is No. 62. I wonder if this bloke knows what his T shirt says.

comrade

without a doubt

by comrade on

One of the best, if not the best, photo essays ever displayed. An honest look at the social fabric, down to the bones of society.

Never increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything.
