It was during this very visit that the Shah and Sadat made a Joint Statement in favor of the creation of a Palestinian State which would equally recognize Isreal.

It was the Shah who played the middle man in establishing the first unofficial talks between Sadat and Begin as well as officials of both countries often meating on the shores of the Caspian Sea for indirect talks.

 

But ultimately US President Jimmy Carter got all the credit ... and the Shared Nobel Peace Prize along with Begin and Sadat ...
