Iran threatens legal action against Google

For not labeling Persian Gulf

CNN: Iran has threatened legal action against Google for not labeling the Persian Gulf on its maps. "Toying with modern technologies in political issues is among the new measures by the enemies against Iran, (and) in this regard, Google has been treated as a plaything," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Thursday, according to state-run Press TV. He added that "omitting the name Persian Gulf is (like) playing with the feelings and realities of the Iranian nation." On state-run news agency IRNA, Iranian officials accused Google of having removed the words "Persian Gulf."

Google did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment. But a Google spokesperson told Britain's The Guardian newspaper that the Internet giant had not removed the term "Persian Gulf" -- it had not labeled it from the beginning, as is the case with many other places. If you type "Persian Gulf" into Google maps, the resulting map shows you the Persian Gulf but does not label it. >>>

For those who are not clear what is permitted and what is banned in a country such as Iran, they may search for Iranian based Proxy address then try to access google or google earth to see the level of accessibility of Iranian Internet.

you can legally access google in iran?  mehmanparast's legal basis for taking google to court is because google is "playing with the feelings and realities of the iranian nation" while the residents of iranian nation can't legally access the site.  wtf.

I have to agree with Azarbanoo, and DK. IRI mufia did not have the right to change Iranian flag frome persian symbole to arabic looking flag, therefore they have no right to protest. These bastard Mullas would change our language to arabic if they could, let alone Persian Gulf name.

hassan & hossein are doing just fine. we had some issues with hassan mounting hossein which was fixed after i reminded him  repeatedly that: a) hossein is his brother & incest is illegal in state of new york. b) mr ahmadinejad himself said that there are no gays amongst shia muslims.

isnt that right ahmadinejad's mamoor joon?
