and nudity in art is not new, is it?

Mohammad Ala

A few questions/comments:

by Mohammad Ala on

Is this in response to the Egyptian girl?  What is the theme of this picture?  Any purpose?

How would members who say this is “freedom” feel if their mothers, sisters, daughters or brothers, sons, etc.,  appear nude?  If they show us one of their nude pictures, then I will accept their freedom of expression lecture.

How about trying a few drugs because you are free?  Why give excuses to rulers/people to use against Iranians, especially inside Iran?  This is not an Art to me.

Bavafa

More power to her....

by Bavafa on

For using the freedom she has to do what she wants and enjoys, art in all of its form.

With the hopes one day we are free enough to excerise all we want within the bound of [man created] law in Iran.

I just don't get it. Why

by smr00 on

I just don't get it. Why would she do this? I'm an iranian-american woman by the way (not some older conservative iranian dad) and I'm not too happy after seeing this. I don't view it as art. There are many forms of art and many ways to express yourself artistically - it had to be in the form of taking all your clothes off and throwing yourself in front of a camera for the world to see? Sorry, I don't buy it. And this is also not about freedom either. Nudity does not equal freedom so people that argue this is her form of feminism and freedom and God knows what else, I don't buy that either. I just think what she did was so unnecessary and she can advertise and advance her career in so many objective, REAL ways.

vildemose

Good for her. Nicely done.

by vildemose on

Good for her. Nicely done. There is nothing erotic about his picture. Those who view this as a porn, are still stuck in their medieval mysogynistic/Islamists mentality. She has barely any breasts, please...stop your misogynistic comments.

Will she be allowed to make movies in Iran again? Does this mean that she will give up Iranian movie market and focus her career in the West?

Last time, she attended the "Body of Lies" premiere without her hejab, some people inside Iran said she has no values.....I was wondering what people will say this time? "Corrupted on the Earth?"

P.S. She is very beautiful and talented!

Nude?

by bahmani on

I'm not seeing this as nude.

Great pose, classic features, she should be a statue.

A nude one.

To some extend selfish

by pedramx on

she has the right to explore the world of art any way she wants and I totally respect that... but I feel bad for her father and sister who their lives are getting harder inside Iran by the decisions that she makes in the free world.

Only

by oktaby on

thing out of bounds here are most of the comments  with the holier than thou attitude. These are an artists rendering and Golshifteh is one subject in a series of pix. Not in any way demeaning or disrespectful. Iranian men need to step up before they give themselves the right to tell Iranian women what to do. It is not for you to define or decide. IRR has done enough of that for 33 years. Grow up.

Ari Siletz

Nudity no big deal in Western artist community

by Ari Siletz on

Wonderful portrait by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. Emphasizes Farahani's large male-looking hands (not a joke). Wedding ring is an intriguing touch.

Out-of-touch with average Iranian attitude, but in line with who she is as an international artist. The photographer, Mondino, is a heavyweight; has worked with Madonna, Sting...Here's a great portrait of Scarlett Johansson by Mondino. I expect that working with him will boost Farahani's career in the West.

Demo

The Sad Status???

by Demo on

Yes, the sad status! But of the 'lost' souls in search of some false 'recognition' by the 'sane world!' & not of the Iranian women @ any junction of time! Absolutely not!

PS: Taking hat, if had one, off for Comrade's remark! Excellente!

smr00

Pathetic

by smr00 on

Golshifteh, Common! I expected a lot more than you!! I am shocked. What is this? What is the purpose of this? You are a young, talented woman and regardless of your religious-political beliefs, should have more self respect for yourself than to engage in some attention seeking, low class, soul selling behavior.

Disenchanted

Shortcut to fame & fortune discovered by Iranian women at last!

by Disenchanted on

The other day Shermineh took it off & took off on the cover of playboy!

Not sure why when it comes to freedom of women the first thing that goes is the undergarment! ;-)

Not sure if it goes well with western culture that appreciates size and quantity!

I hope she finds a better way to pursue her interests and talentin art.

by Faramarz on

This "starving model" look and holding cups doesn't really compliment her at all.

She has a beautiful face, but I guess the focus of the shot is her very attractive shoulder blades.

And perhaps it's a sad statement of the status of Iranian women 33 years after the Islamic Republic.

I admire her for doing this, but it's not a sexy photo. She looks like a sad prison inmate.
