Afshari Brothers: Prisoners of the day

Jafar (Soltan) Afshari, Razgar (Habib) Afshari, Ali Afshari, Vali Afshari

ICHRI: A local human rights source told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that the four Kurdish brothers who were arrested 14 months ago by security forces in Bookan and Mahabad have received heavy sentences. According to the source, two of the brothers were sentenced to death on charges of "moharebeh (enmity with God)" and the other two were sentenced to five years in prison on charges of "acting against national security." The family's mother died in late January, after suffering a heart attack following announcement of death sentences.

"On 9 December 2010, Mahabad security forces blockaded the home of a Kurdish citizen by the name of Jafar (Soltan) Afshari, stormed the premises in search of his brother Razgar (Habib) Afshari, a former member of a Kurdish party. Security forces fired shots at the two men and eventually arrested them with the cooperation of IRGC and Intelligence Office forces, and transferred them to a Mahabad security detention center," said the source.

"Two days later, on 11 December, Boukan security forces stormed the home of an acquaintance of the family's and arrested a third Afshari brother, Ali, who had also been a member of a Kurdish party. Security forces directly shot at Ali Afshari, severely injuring him. Subsequently, the fourth brother, Vali Afshari, was summoned to Mahabad Intelligence Office, where he was arrested and transferred to Mahabad Security Detention Center," he added.

The Kurdistan human rights activist also claimed that the four Kurdish brothers underwent four months of interrogations and torture inside Mahabad and Orumiyeh security detention centers, and their family members were not allowed any visits or given any information about them. "After this time, Habib, Jafar, and Vali Afshari were transferred to Mahabad Central Prison, and Ali Afshari was transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison. Six months later, three of the imprisoned brothers were transferred to the Orumiyeh Central Prison, but after several months they were all transferred to Mahabad Prison again. Following completion of their interrogation and investigation stages, the Prosecutor forwarded their cases to the Revolutionary Court on charges of 'moharebeh (enmity with God),' and 'cooperation with Kurdish parties.' The four brothers were not allowed to select their lawyers and their four court-appointed lawyers announced that they were unable to defend their clients," he added.

According to the source, trial of the four individuals began at the Mahabad Revolutionary Court on 5 December 2011. On 16 January, Ali and Razgar (Habib) Afshari were informed that they had been sentenced to death. Jafar (Soltan) and Vali Afshari were acquitted of "moharebeh" charges, and were sentenced to five years in prison on charges of "acting against national security."

"All four political prisoners objected to their sentences and their files have been forwarded to Western Azerbaijan Appeals Court. Ali Afshari is in poor physical shape as a result of bullet wounds he sustained during his arrest. He was transferred to an Orumiyeh Hospital last week due to severe intestinal bleeding. He was returned to Orumiyeh Prison immediately after his surgery," said the source.

Your arse is getting jealous of your mouth for all the sh*t you talk.  Take a deep breath, relax and try to formulate a somewhat contructive statement the next time you want to make a posting.  If you cannot, I strongly suggest that you STFU.

Thank you and Godspeed.

Last post was not sarcastic at all

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Its hard to explain, I'm not sure I get myself all the time. I go off on the wrong tangent sometimes, and have to back track.  I think the feeling was real, a deep feeling i mean, just not based on being understanding/correct way of looking at a situation.  For some reason the anger is at manipulation from the outside into my life.

Its like thats the trigger.

I'm cursed with blame myself, inability to truly forgive

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

But I'll do it, as sincerely as I can, thanks for straightening me out. Anyone and everyone in jail in anyform in iran must be freed.  The people are not criminals it is totatlly the regime and its corrupted authorities that are harming Iranians massively and daily.

Just a single message of solidarity,.............

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

with our (and I presume yours?....) compatriots who are rotting in the fascist regime's jails for no crime other than believeing in whatever they believe in, and acting upon their beliefs

Can you amirparvizforsecularmonarchy do that instead of all this nonesense ? Would it really hurt you that much, could you not find enough decency and empathy in your heart to write a single brief message of solidaity for these folks?

Laughable propaganda in regards to the progress

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

if you look at Iran through a perfectionists lense you will only see shortcoming and pursue idealistic bs, which has never served or delivered for anyone, ever.  Irans progress durig shahs time are the likes of which no one had experienced before of since, yes free education and 2000% increase in income for the poorest was a good improvement to what was there before. The future was bright and getting better at all levels, though the rapid changes like tehran going from 1 to 4 million in 15 years were truly hard to cope with, but good work was being done.

All those slums on the outskirts of Tehran that rose up against

shah, were those also a part of "prosperity?"

It was prosperous for thives and torturers of SAVAK, who put millions of people's oil monies in their bank accounts.

What the heck in the world do you know about Kurdestan.

Kurdestan was a vanguard of the struggle against monarchy, has been a vanguard of struggle against IR and has been through two General Strike under the leadership of communists. Eat that!

The King created an era of peace, progress and human rights

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Not being able to realize this is what causes Dunces to unwittingly think that the shahs actions were the incubator of islamc republic.  I am glad that the bs spewed by ogdeyi's has NO buyer on the streets within Iran. As for Savak, Human Rights in Iran were far worse before Savak. We went from wide spread torture and thuggery by Iranians in the police from qajar era to that ending completely and non-widespread torture in Savak.  Focus your blame and ignorance in a productive way mash, at least you will be acting more responsibly regarding Irans current head ache. Take on those who supported only extremists, ie the USA/UK/France, in total opposition to the majority of even ayatollahs and mullahs in iran today.  Kurdistan people were mostly for the late shah and are still today, they do not fall into the commie category anyone facing njustice is worthy of respect. If The Irnian History you are describing reflect the blockheaded, nincompoop reflections of some pimp whose mother was a commie and can no longr think objectively I'd prefer not to read it.Poltical Prisoners today in Iran are the result of the 2 things I described below, 1) traitors to king and country 2) foreign interference and ongoing support, even today.  You help people realize that you will have enlightened those few who still don't see the situation and what Iranians are facing today.

Mash Ghasem

King and his SAVAK

by Mash Ghasem on

You still can't understand how SAVAK's cooperation with Hojatieh helped to spread most reactionary version of political Islam in Iran.

Once and for all get this into your thick heads: MONARCHY WAS THE INCUBATOR OF ISLAMIC REPUBLIC, PERIOD.

And it's not just that you don't understand the recent history of Iran. You also have no idea of the history of Constitutional revolution. Haidar Amoghli a leading member of the original Communist Party of Iran was an outstanding leader of the Constitutional Revolution and the movement against monarchy back then.

Now go and wash your mouth, and read some Iranian history, before making a fool out of yourself by further ignorant statements.

P.S. This is a thread on political prisoners in Iran. Most of these political prisoners in Kurdestan are Leftists. Do you understand the meaning of the word RESPECT?

amirparvizforsecularmonarchy

Islamic Extremism has never been by most in Iran.

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Even it can be said with certainty, that ayatollahs and mullahs in Iran, by a majority do not support extremism or religion in Govt. Yet it happened and only as a result of 2 factors, 1) the disloyalty/khaen among Irans Antellectuals, which never put King or Country First 2) US support for extremists on going and never ending.  The USA we can understand what they gain by spreading extremism into government, it suppresses a country, destroys education and Africanizes countries.  What is confusing is that in all iran as a nation we all failed to create people that put King and Country First.  For example take a look at filthy communists in Iran, Iran never had a Single Commie to deal with when russians had them during Qajar Era, but after ww2 when russians occupied Iran and invested money and resources to produce filthy traitors Commies grew like mushrooms and spread like bunnies.  This is the heart of the reason Commies are so deeply unpopular in Iran after 60 years of their work, #1 they helped mullahs come to power, #2 they are khaen and Iranians experienced 2 pahlavi kings that were both Patriotic and now 2 mullah dictators that were both Khaen, the majority of Iranians in a free and Fair democratic election are going to vote for a patriotic Iranian over a Khaen now that they know what the difference is in terms of experiencing them in power.  But alas due to the treason of many, we are not at a stage to even consider being able to deliver a free choice to people that are being torture and imprisoned and executed with out trial or lawyer.

Once Iranians understand that the USA wants extremists in power and it was the USA that brought them and keeps them in power and especially if they know why they are adored so much in washington, then we can have an Iranian enlightenment as we all work together to deliver secular democracy for Iranians.

Our Kurdish compatriots said a big NO to the whole concept of the Islamic Republic 33 years ago, and for that have become the main target of brutal persecution by the Fascist regime, and suffering more than any other group of Iranians ever since. For that, I have the greatest respect for our kurdish brothers and sisters, and their brave struggle against the islamist Fascism.

Freedoom for Afshari brothers. Freedom for all Iranian political prisoners regardless of their ethnicity, religion or political affiliations.

Human rights violation has been systematic under IRI and those who has been speaking against these violations are paying a high price for their activism.

It is our duty to support and campaign for their immediate and unconditional freedom.

My salute to each and every one of these brave souls.
