Ukrainian Planes for Iran

Two Antonov 158s to join Iranian fleet

Press TV: The country is planning to become a major aviation industry hub in the region, said Managing director of Iran's Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) Manouchehr Manteqi during a ceremony held at Mehrabad Airport on Sunday for the test flight of the Antonov 158 passenger plane. He added that the Antonov Company was Iran's strategic partner with updated technical know-how, IRNA reported.

Ukrain is not Russia

by choghok on

First of all Ukraine is not Russia, it has very frosty relations with Russia and is getting closer to EU, this has cost it a lot since Russia has cut economic ties with it. Antonov is as said here a Ukranian plane and not Russian.

Antonov is famous for its smaller planes that has been used across Europe for a long time.

Russia itself is building the passenger plane Sukhoi Superjet which will come out soon and will be fighting with Airbus and Boeing for passenger planes. It is built with cooperation with other companies and countries but then again which plane is not?

So please, think before you say/write something.

"Build High Speed Trains"

Sound suggestions which I am sure will fall on a deaf ears within IRI.

Possibly because there is not as much theft and rubbery in that industry then avaition.

'Hambastegi' is the main key to victory

Aviation industry hub?

by Cost-of-Progress on

So, does this mean they'll be buying all the junk planes to become an industry hub? What does aviation industry hub mean anyway? Not a passenger hub....that's for sure. This summer, I flew into the IKA airport for the first time. I had expected a modern, large and worldly airport with all the fuss that I had heard before. Instead I was greeted (overstatement, of course) by an airport in the middle of nowhere which one might expect in a small midwest cityt with a total of 8 gates!

What gives? I wonder how many people got rich with the construction of this "inter", I say "International" airport.

Build High Speed Trains

by Faramarz on

If the Regime had the safety and the well-being of Iranians in mind, instead of buying old Russian and Ukrainian junk that will sooner or later cause death and destruction it would build high speed trains connecting major cities.

The customer list of Antonov plane is very impressive; Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela, Myanmar, Russia, India and Kazakhstan. All the major players with impressive safety records!

That is what I said

pay cash to Russia and China and done with it. Why do you have to constantly get their junks in return.

MRX1 Russia is oil producer

by choghok on

And unlike Iran does not import oil products, so Iran has to pay cash.

Just make it easy

by MRX1 on

The regime should just give 20 to 30 dollars for each barel of oil sold to russia (aka Soviet Union or what ever flavor it is now)  and china and done with it! seriously it is much easier and in the long run it saves life's as well. Ukranian plane? old and out dated airports? hub of the region? who comes up with these nonesense!  got to be kidding me.

Hub for where to where?

by choghok on

Istanbul, Doha and Dubai are already having all the trafic in middle east. Even Iranians in Europe do not take Iran Air to Iran unless they have to, especially if they do not live in Tehran. Qatar airways take you to Tabriz, Mashad Shiraz and Isfahan beside Tehran I think, Turkish does many of these cities too and have better connection times.

The problem is not just the planes now, the problem is how to fuel in the foreign countries. Most European airports do not allow Iran Air to fill up the tanks since the gas stations in the airports are many time Americans and have to follow American laws. Maybe they could be hub for central asia and Russia to Africa but how big market is that?

Antonov small planes are nice, do not know about their passenger planes.
