Unlike the appeasement policy of the labour government and Jack Straw, William Hague means what he says. The Islamic regime has played with fire, now it is time to be burnt down to cinder.

The prime minister has said that the attacks on the UK embassy in Iran were "completely appalling and disgraceful behaviour" and Britain was considering taking some "very tough action" in response.

David Cameron praised the "devotion" of the diplomatic staff, when he was quizzed in PMQs about hundreds of protesters storming two British diplomatic compounds in Tehran.

Why sanctions are faltering (bbc) by By Jonathan Marcus BBC Diplomatic Correspondent

Do they work? Over what period must they be applied? And what is their goal? Are they there to isolate, to contain, or to coerce?

Dear Anglo

Is this new? The regime has been violating international and other conventions since day one.

  • US hostages and the fiasco.
  • Assassinations of dissidents in other nations.
  • Export of revolution to other previously non hostile nations.
  • Confiscation of private property in Iran.
  • Mass executions.
  • Purge of anyone not Islamic enough.

Then the SOB Soroush comes to USA and gets the red carpet treatment. Why is he not in jail now. He should be sued by his victims. I would sue him if I had the standing. Meanwhile Abdolali Bazargan is preaching garbage in USA. Free and well funded. Who pays him.

Response 2

This was most definitely organized by some government faction. It was also a  really bad move by IRI.

  • It makes the sanctions argument much more appealing.
  • It is proof they may not be trusted so no one believes their nuclear stance.
  • Mobilizes public sentiment in West for much harsher action.
  • Makes it much harder for China and Russia to damage control for IRI.
  • Makes Egypt and Libya think twice about an Islamic regime.
  • Shows how stupid and out of touch they are.

I don't know who was behind it but they sure did great undermining the Islamic Republic.

DK some diplomats

It took long enough but they are only pulling some diplomats not all. What is their problem and why not let non British citizens or subjects do the work. This makes me wonder why don't they just pull their staff out.

Darius Kadivar

Sanctions Do Work Keep Up the Pressure !

by Darius Kadivar on

This clumsy reaction only shows that the IRI is scared shit.

The West should keep up the Pressure all the more that the situation in Syria is also reaching boiling point thanks to the Arab League Sanctions.

If Syria falls, those who claim sanctions are useless may be surprised by how effective they actually are.

In addition given Russia's lukewarm stance towards the Sanctions against Syria and it's treacherous stance during the Libyan Conflict the people in the region will grow even more hostile and suspicious of the Russian's hypocrisy so will Turkey.

The more the Sanctions continue the more impatient the regime in Tehran will become and ultimately people will have to realize that giving more trust to the Mullahs in Tehran is a waste of time.

So Keep Up with the Sanctions and Don't give in to these Losers.

Long Live the Queen !

fast forward from here on!

by Kooshan on

This is reminicence of the 79 hostage crisis. Except that world is not so tolerant of acts like that. Although IRI breeds in chaos but it has recently shown weakness in turmoil. In contrast, There seems to be a more methodic approach to mid-east awakening in recent year by US and Europe. The wild card is Russia and how far she wants to push her will for having a presence in mid east. If there was already a negotiation between powers, then, the landscape in mid east can be very well in favor of US in not so distant future.

There is words that Egypt (even the Islamists) like Turkey's model of government (democratic) rather than Iranian version (based on Theocracy). This is a major shift in how people noe think in mid-east compared to few years ago.

All I can wish for is a more popular revolt than a Lybian version with high innocent casualties.
