PROJECT DESCRIPTION

TALCA INTERRUPTED is a one-hour documentary about the search for lost identity in the aftermath of the February 27th, 2010 earthquake in Chile. In the city of Talca, 6500 homes were damaged or destroyed and only 12 have been rebuilt through government subsidies. ‘Talca Interrupted’ will uncover the human face in the wreckage of these statistics through the perspective of three characters; Pedro who has chosen to cling to his past, Ester who is trapped in her present and Jose Luis who is determined to create a completely new identity for himself and his community. In traversing a timeline of this post-disaster city through their past, present and future instances, the film explores why we leave aspects of ourselves behind and why we preserve others in times of crisis.

KICKSTARTER INITIATIVE

Nora is currently working with a small production team including Chilean filmmaker Dani Ibaceta and award-winning Chilean Composer Jorge Aliaga, and they have already accumulated initial photography and on ground research completed over one week in March 2011. The film has an estimated completion date of September 2011, when it will premier in Chicago! Please donate today and you will receive special backer rewards and most importantly, give a voice to a struggling Chilean community.

I find it most promising that the younger generation of Iranians are being raised as cosmopolitans, looking at and seeing matters in a universal context, instead of being stuck in a national/ethnic setting dangling from a bunch of nonsensical fables about Cyrus the Great stuff.
