Congrats To Mr. Khayyami
by Darius Kadivar on Fri May 20, 2011 12:39 AM PDTWell Deserved !
I'm Jealous ;0)
PS/ To be anglophobic in this time and age is ridiculous ... We are what we do of ourselves as individuals and we are what we are as a Nation for good or for bad due to our own collective choices. To continue expressing resentment for events of more than half a century or beyond including WWII is to be stuck in time for all the wrong reasons. Does that mean we should be naive ? Definitively not. But why resent the success and acknowledgment of a fellow compatriot particularly someone of the Diaspora by the government of their country of residence ? I would equally be happy and proud to see such a recognition of someone in Republican France and there have been several cases. Such recognitions can only shine positively on our community at large and we should welcome them.
Yes, the brits.
by pedro on Thu May 19, 2011 06:32 PM PDTOur fathers were right when they said "Hamash zire sare in engelisas "
I used to laugh at the statement. Today we all cry for what the brits have done to Iran and Iranians.
I am proud of the Khayami brothers, but if I was in Mr. khayamis shoes, I'd sell the medal and with the money I would order chinese to make enough plastic replicas of the medal so that all british politician and monarch can shove one up their arss. Also place one on the head stone of the dead british politicians as a mark for all Irish, Iranian and Indian to hit when and if they are press to take a leak.
Thanks GS.
I am Persia. I pray to Ahoura Mazda.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Thu May 19, 2011 04:18 PM PDTI agree with you totally on this issue. Mahmoodg jan I have to disagree. Britain is our greatest enemy and being a Knight is a disgrace. I would never accept such an insult to me or my beloved nation: Iran.
The actions of Britain speak for themselves: stirring up Islamism; breaking parts of Iran; denying us our rights. There is no end to the evil Britain has done to Iran. We are not alone the Irish share the same. I was in Boston with a friend. He was wearing the Union Jack on his shirt. He got thrown out of an Irish bar because of it. Me being an Iranian was welcome by the people there. They know who their enemy is and so must we. No Iranian with any self respect will accept such an insult.
Well that award will make him a disgrace back home.
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Thu May 19, 2011 12:59 PM PDTKind of embarrasing to be a british knight after the UK, helped the USA remove the previous shah and bring khomeini to power.
A congratulations are in order... just kidding. : ) LOL, you now suck.
P.S. Mahmoudg, I would disagree with you this time.
CBE is the runner up to Knighthood
by anglophile on Thu May 19, 2011 10:32 AM PDTAmong other Iranian industrialists who have been honoured by Her Majesty the Queen is Baron (David) Alliance.
A remarkable life & great achievements. CBE is not a knighthood
by ramintork on Thu May 19, 2011 10:52 AM PDTCBE is Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Only GBE and KBE are knighthoods which add the title Sir or Dame to the name. Many detest the honour as it is linked to the British Empire and centuries of colonialism. Khayyami's achievements are remarkable with or without this recognition. These men made Iran what it was i.e. once the most modern progressive nation in Middle East, until the Mullah's destroyed the country.
Great for him

Thank you CC

The Knights of Iran
by Patriot on Thu May 19, 2011 09:02 AM PDTKhayyami brothers do not need any foreign government's knighthood in order to preserve their position of significance and reverence among Iranians. Among other businesses, the brothers established Iran Khodro (formerly Iran National) car company, which employed thousands of Iranians. Iranians refer to Khayyami's with respect and that is more important that any other honor a foreign country could bestow upon them.
Souri, lol
by ComraidsConcubine on Thu May 19, 2011 08:01 AM PDTNot sure, really not sure and 'don't want to put a damper on things, as there is always controversy about CBEs *etc. (and the medals sell according to provenance), but this one as a whole seems to have had a going price of £830 thousand, not a confounded Daily Mail's 'dash for cash' but rather a highlighted drop in the ocean. Good for him though and congrats!
More importantly: shirinim koo?
*P.S. according to the linked wiki entry, the CBE is for services to education, but I must have missed the details in the BBC Persian report.
We should all be proud
by mahmoudg on Thu May 19, 2011 07:10 AM PDTNot because of the British order he got, I for one think the Brits have done more bad than good. But because The Khayami's gave Iran's industry a new lease on life. They and many like them who genuinely were trying to build the country's manufacturing infrastructure is what Iran needs. Alas, that this regime has stiffled all growth be in in the free thought and conscious or industrial growth.
