The Guardian: The court of appeal has quashed the conviction of a former police chief who was found guilty by a jury of framing a man. Former Scotland Yard commander Ali Dizaei was jailed for four years in February 2010 for abusing his office after a row in a London street with Waad al-Baghdadi, who was the main prosecution witness. The court of appeal has ordered a retrial. Lawyers for Dizaei told the court of appeal the conviction was no longer safe because Baghdadi had lied to secure thousands of pounds of benefits, as well as in his court evidence. On Monday appeal court judges decided the conviction was unsafe. Dizaei's 25-year police career ended after his conviction, when he was drummed out of the Metropolitan police in disgrace >>>

by Roozbeh_Gilani on Tue May 17, 2011 01:47 PM PDTI really dont know how this man managed to get where he was in the british police. I lived in england as a student for nearly seven years, and still remember the case of a black kid being murdered by a gang of white racists, with murdereres getting away with it due to police investigators apathy. This caused such outrage amongst black community at the time that there was an official enquiry which found the british police institutionaly racist.

Very simple to understand if you live in UK
by ramintork on Tue May 17, 2011 01:22 PM PDTOver the last few decades a few establishments such as the British Police have been resistant to transform into multi-cultural institutes (at least at a high level).
Add to this a hot headed Iranian who doesn't tow the line of establishment, and has been seen associating with the Iranian Embassy staff, someone who uses the power politics of the black police association and you have a group of people with Masonic handshakes doing anything in their power to keep him away from the key posts.
I don't think Ali Desai is guilty of anything other than being too flamboyant for the taste of the establishment, but as an intellegint individual and someone who is ambitious he has been swimming against the tide or as we say in Persian has taken the food bite round his head to get to his mouth!
