Saideh Pakravan

Author of new novel "Azadi"

Azadi describes Raha’s terrible ordeal and her fight, against all odds, to obtain redress but goes beyond to place the story in the context of a fascinating and complicated country and offers deep insights into the Iranian psyche. At the core of the novel is the moving relation that develops between Raha who belongs to a well-to-do family from the rich suburbs of Northern Tehran and Hossein, a sepahi (or Revolutionary Guard), who comes from the poorer neighborhood and how they overcome their completely different backgrounds to touch each other’s lives in a way neither will ever forget >>> saidehpakravan.com

Her mother Fatemeh Pakravan's Memoires are a Must Read too

by Darius Kadivar on

Mrs. Pakravan and her mother Fatemeh are truly very talented writers with an original background.

Fatemeh Pakravan has Polish and Russian Roots combined with Persian. She was married to the Late General Hassan Pakravan who was head of the SAVAK and who spared the life of Khomeiny in 1963 and Khomeiny thanked him by making sure he was executed immediately after the fall of the Monarchy.

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassan_Pakravan

Known as a True Pakravan, the General was particularly respected as an officer given that during his term as head of the Security Apparatus prior to General Nassiri and After Teymour Bakhtiar, Pakravan had allowed the Red Cross and International Organizations to penetrate the SAVAK HQ and see the conditions of the prisoners first hand. He hoped to see this organization which was to subsequently earn a horrendous reputation be accountable when it came to human rights violations.

Some claim that he was executed by Khomeiny because he had developed a friendly relationship with the Ayatollah whom he protected and made sure he was not executed after the 1963 uprising. As such he had much to say about his relationship with the future leader of the Islamic Revolution and his silence had become a pre requisite by the Ayatollah who did not want to admit that he owed his life to  a "Taghoutiyeh Fassed" member of the Imperial Regime he had staunchly opposed.

Pakravan's wife and mother to Saideh Pakravan's memoires published in France is a Gem of information particularly on the Iranian Diaspora in France during the 1930's and during the German Occupation of France during WWII a time when Mrs. Pakravan was seperated from her family as a student in German Occupied Paris. It has some very interesting insights on how Germans and the Vichy Administration were confused by the Iranian Community given that these Middle Easterns were considered as "Aryan's" yet befriended the Jews ...

Her Memoires are a Must Read for their originality and unique perspectives into  the history of the Iranian Diaspora. Beyond the historical documentation  It is a witty, Funny and sensitive book which I highly recommend.

These Memoires are to be distinguished with the one she wrote on her late husband which is also an interesting read.

Clearly a Talented and Patriotic family !
