beyondpersia.org: Leilah was born in New York of Iranian parents, although she has been based in Spain for the last seven years. At a young age, she became interested in the dance world studying ballet, jazz and tap in the Professional Children's program at New York's distinguished Broadway Dance Center. Later, she began her flamenco dance formation with such respected New York-based professors, such as Jose Molina and La Meira, who gave her the necessary foundation to follow her growth in Spain. After graduating magna cum laude from Columbia University with a B.A. in Film Studies, she decided to move to Spain in order to fully immerse herself in the flamenco world >>>

by 13th Legion on Sat Nov 20, 2010 06:31 PM PSTPoint well taken, for I am not anything close to an expert when it comes to different styles of flamenco and try my best at always being open to learning something new,
In this case the Bulerias form. My comment was simply based on personal taste and vibe, no politics intended ;)
out of respect to you both will go back and edit my original comment.
Cheers
Thanks 13th Legion

by 13th Legion on Sat Nov 20, 2010 01:49 PM PSTAri Jaan,
Thank you for sharing your very informative comment about the Bulerias form,I guess when it comes to art each artist has a unique quality of energy that they emanate and as a result some would relate to the vibe and energy and be attracted to it and vise versa, I guess it’s a matter of personal preference, taste and perception! I admire Ms. Broukhims level of interest and passion that she has invested into her art but I personally did not feel a natural flow in her movements, a bit too harsh and stiff for my taste “nothing personal” God bless her heart and more power to her ;)
Example of different energy, Bulerias form:

by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Nov 19, 2010 10:55 PM PSTLeilah is a natural dancer, full of passion and energy. In this clip she is an informal setting but still shows that she has the moves and ability to entertain. Here she is in a more formal flamenco performance:

by Simorgh5555 on Fri Nov 19, 2010 03:43 PM PSTVery nice and talented Lady. But I am curious about Iranians fascination with Spanish and Latin culture. Back in the 90s it was had not find an Iranian dance song which did not have a Spanish guittar or the singer chanting words in Spanish in the background. Even Andy succombed to the fad. Groups such as Gypsy King were and are all the rage. There were and still a lot of Iranians who try to pass themselves off as Spanish but unforutnately for them any non-Iranian would suss them out isntantly that they were just another Johny Foreigner pretending to be Spanish. Oh well, I guess the word 'Persian' lost its appeal and no longer impressed. A substitute identity had to be found.
