Cool, really cool

by Mehrban on

Looks just like a part out of a Shiriin Neshat film or video.  Thanks Monda makes me want to learn how to play tonbac.

I appreciate your appreciation for Tehrani

JJ, I could not believe I had not caught this on youtube all this time!  The man is a true legend and as divaneh said, he invented the modern methodology for teaching tonbak.  I hope I find more of his ensembles to share with you.

Lovely

The first piece is called "Diesel Engine" and is by Hossein Tehrani, the man with dark glasses in the middle. He is the one who created the musical notes for Tonbak which allowed methodical teaching of this instrument and recording of the rhythms on paper. He wrote a number of pieces for groups of tonbak ensembles. Thanks for posting Monda.

Very cool

I can't believe this is from the 1950's. Very modern and different. I don't remember seeing any tradtional/classical Iranian musicians open their performance with a circle of fire!

I like it... very much.
