Obama praises santions

Security Council sanctions aren't as tough as originally proposed

AP: President Barack Obama heralded new U.N. Security Council sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program as the toughest ever Wednesday, but still left the door open for future diplomacy. "Actions do have consequences and today the Iranian government will face some of those consequences," Obama said, speaking at the White House shortly after the Security Council vote. The sanctions target Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard, ballistic missiles and nuclear-related investments, but aren't as tough as what the Obama administration had originally proposed. The resolution passed 12-2 with Turkey and Brazil voting "no" and Lebanon abstaining >>>

Nope, Iran as a signatory to NPT, Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,  has a right to enrich uranium to be used as fuel for civil nuclear power only.

The state of Israel is not a signatory. The comparison simply does not follow.
(This does of course not mean that Israel is condoned in all its illegal activities and atrocities).

As for Turkey and Brazil. It's the old chestnut: veto!

AND as for  "Imperialism", it's  an "international conglomerate oligarchy"....

that's interesting because one of the companies that I had dealt with before (let's just say that this company WAS big in Iraq with no-bid contracts...) claimed that they had no dealing with Iran while their British "affiliate" was raking in millions through their dealings with the Islamic Regime. I am not sure of the staus today, but this is about 4 years ago.

Money talks and it says the same thing in any language.

by hamsade ghadimi on

c.o.p., your statement rings true.  it would just create additional cost to the regime.  phony subsidiaries is akin to money laundering!

some years ago, i was approached by a head hunter for a position, that in addition to technical expertise, they needed a native persian speaker.  in my telephone interview, i asked the hiring authority on the persian requirement since their industry was not allowed to do business with iran.  he told me that i would be working for one of their subsidiaries which is an italian company and i would be required to travel to their client country, iran.  the pay was very good but i just couldn't go through with it.

Sanctions will do nothing to prevent the Islamic regime

by Cost-of-Progress on

from getting its filthy paws on nukes. However, I understand that there are like 40+ "companies" of the IRGC that are on the list. But you know what, they'll just create bogus shell companies with other names like they have before and it'll be business as usual. These types of sanctions will do squat to hurt the regime.

The west is pissing in the wind while the enemies of Iran and her people (the occupiers from within) keep getting closer to securing their position in the world by aquiring nukes.

American Arrogance

by ghalam-doon on

That's what it is. Turkey and Brazil as two major countries in the world had reached some agreements with the Iranian government. They thought these agreements would lead to other agreements.

And what did the US administration do? Did they encourage these two countries and their leaders? Did they say well, it's a good starting point and we may be able to build on that? No. They ignored it like it never happened. It was a slap in the face for Turkey and Brazil.

That's Imperialism 101. No country should do things that might jeopardize the interests of Empire.

Turkey and Brazil had done exactly that.

Mr. Obama says many nice things in his speech but he, like others before him, has a selective amnesia. He forgets the only country in the region with a nuclear arsenal is Israel. As long as their co-conspirators have these weapons, Iran or any other independent country in the region has an unalienable right to have nuclear weapon, regardless whether the Mullahs are in power or otherwise. Unless we go back to good old days of the deposed Shah and wish another US stooge at the helm in Tehran.

Let's bring freedom of expression and freedom of association into Iran, then we'll talk about it.

Talking about democracy without those basic rights is a joke.

MahmoudAhmadinejad

by MahmoudAhmadinejad on

Yes, we want democracy for Iran. can you tell us what democracy is? Is it that when some people don't win an election (even if rigged) they can go out and set the town on fire?  You didn't do that in US did you?

Is it having the homosexuals, drug dealers, prostitutes ,gangs and etc take over the country? because that is what is being promoted by west on Iranians youth? while Iran insists in staying away from that and promotes going to collage. Hasn't the number of educated in Iran grown more than any other country despite the fact that in some cases it has been raising snake in our backyard?

Are there issues in Iran? Sure. It is a country that the public in general are not ready to accept certain ways and the government is promoting and enforcing such thinking. In some cases they are right and in some cases they are wrong.  Americans don't have the democracy you expect from Iran. Helen Thomas is the latest example.

It is all about Our oil and Israel! Wants to control Iran again!

by obama on

The same old game going back 100 years! AIOC (Anglo Iranain Oil Co.) called BP now is in it with the US and Israel, as the old partners.

US does not want democracy for Iran! Democracy for Iran means cutting off their hands and getting control of our oil. If that happens, we would be setting a very bad precedent for Saudi, Iraq, UAE....then they would lose big!

Of course, they want democracy only in name! US WANTS DICATORS WHO ARE THEIR PUPPETS! SHAH ACt ll! Take!

they only want to use us against this evil regime so they don't have to pay for demonstrators as they did during Mossadegh and reza shah!

Our hatred for IRI should not be used for the evil empires! We get rid of IRI and don't need the evils to screw us up again! AZ ABEH GEL MAHI MIGIREH!
