It feels more like

It feels more like 'homework' of students in cinema schools of that time period.

Darius Kadivar

Would have liked to know more about the Director and Film ...

by Darius Kadivar on

Was the film censored in Iran or did it air on TV or in any cinemas at the time ?

In the begining it shows a women interviewing locals and asks them about Mehrjuis movie GAV and the Samad Series and the death of the American Astronauts.

The Ongoing American News commentary as a background sound contrasts with the images of Abadan's urban and rural landscapes which leaves little doubt on the director's critical outlook on the "Americanization" of the country and their deemed indifference to Iranians and their genuine pre occupations. Contrast between Rich and Poor etc ...

Given that the Journalists Question people it seems that many got to see the movie Gav ( partially censored or not ?) after all, so I suppose that Mehrjui's movie was not censored or released once the initial Scandal of trying to ban it triggered criticisms ...

Would like to know other people's opinion particularly Abadanis having lived in Iran at the time.

Interesting film all together ... Just wondering if it was censored for it's subversive outlook or it passed through the censors bureau nevertheless ? ...

Very much in the Cinema Verité Style ...

I couldn't find any info on the film or the director Farhad Daftari on the internet ... Only a namesake who is a historian not a filmmaker

The Return

by Jahanshah Javid on

Is it the eerie music? The black & white aerial shots? The absurdity of it all? For some reason I'm reminded of Stanley Kubrick. Part "Dr. Strangelove" and part "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Did you see the last couple of minutes? The boys pouring into the street and the woman calmly following behind? I'd say it's prophetic: the revolution comes and goes and women confidently return to their true place.
