Mansour Leghaei

Deported from Australia, returns to Iran

The Australian: MANSOUR Leghaei -- the Sydney Islamic cleric accused of spying for Iran -- will arrive back in his birth country today after being deported. The father of four flew out of Sydney last night with his wife and 14-year-old daughter Fatima after a long campaign by Australian supporters from across the religious divide failed to sway the federal government against the deportation decision. "I'm going to miss everyone so much," Dr Leghaei said yesterday after packing up his home in Sydney's inner west. The sheik's three sons will remain in Australia >>>

Agree with both your points. In fact, the article raises more questions than it answers.

Personally, am rather anti-clerical. If it was up to me, I'd send all clerics, regardless of their religion, to an isolated island in the South Pacific. And would keep them there till the end of time.

However, for all my being anti-clerical, I'm left with the impression that no justice was done in this case.

Out of this topic, regards.

Weeeell,

now that I'm finished mud wrestling and have taken a shower, I'll say a few things.

GR, I do understand expat Iranians, especially this bunch here on i.c. (I also understand they're not representative of Iranians within Iran), and I understand the current Iranian political situation too. What I didn't understand so well was what the dynamics might be between IRI, the mollahs it might 'export', and their 'host' countries.

Be that as it may. If this news item brought out the 'bleeding heart liberal' in me, and made me overreact and not be objective about this man's relative 'innocence' or 'guilt', it was largely because of the comments on this thread.

Even if people here knew for sure that he was 'guilty' (they don't), some things are glaringly clear: that whatever he 'did' did not exactly rock the world or Australia wouldn't've let him stay for sixteen years; that he is highly praised not only by Muslims but by Interfaith groups; and that he was never told the specific charges. And more importantly, that his family has been torn apart, with a fourteen year old daughter born in Australia uprooted,' and that the three young men in the video are suffering and they don't deserve this.

Anyone who could jeer while watching that video needs to take a good look at themselves, because they are losing their humanity fast. Simply put, it is sadistic. As the old saying goes: be careful not to become what you most hate. If you have developed a hard heart, you will never be any better than the oppression you claim to fight. Especially if you win.

______________

and a small p.s. It's a good thing the Aussie government is so efficient. Got the job done in just fifteen years and made it just in time to celebrate the new sanctions.

you wouldn't use atributes such as, "sociopathic monster" and a whole bunch of others, no matter how furious you may become.

Mahmoud is a sociopathic monster. All he does, over and over, is advocate bombing Iran. Now he says the father of the three young men in the video is garbage and should get bombed with all the other garbage Mollahs. Do you not find it hghly objectionable that this is the man's mantra? He is the biggest hawk here and I have had to read his garbage over and over and never said anything, But due to the context here (your calculus lessons after I wrote my first post with words like ''disgraceful' that weren't even specifically about him), I finally said the truth.

But if you can't see how patronizing you were to me, what's the point of my saying any of this?

p.s. Are people really executed in IRI on false charges? That is truly amazing. Btw, some people actually thought things would get a little better under Larijani than they were under Sharoudi. How wrong they were...

No you don't otherwise you wouldn't use atributes such as, "sociopathic monster" and a whole bunch of others, no matter how furious you may become. To actually understand an issue you need to calm down and employ better judgement AND language!

You expect some individuals to saynicer things, but then you turn around and use horrible metaphores yourself!

I not only try to understand, I DO understand.

What you don't seem to understand is that I wrote my first post while in a tizzy about the disgusting comments below me, and made that very clear throughout my post, but you didn't acknowledge one single thing about how awful they are. Instead you asked me whether I know two plus two equals four in a calculus class.

And now you are doing it again. You still haven't directed a single word to that sociopathic monster down below, for one, after I asked you to do before lecturing me again. No, You just keep on lecturing. Either you don't have any idea of how long I've been here and the work I've done, or if you do know, you need to understand yourself first before telling me what I do or don't understand.

Please stop patronizing me.

You wrote: "I never heard them before."

Hearing them does not suffice. It is understanding them that is of importance. Day in and day out one may read, watch or hear things that do not amount to anything in one's mind merely because one has stopped relating to what one reads, watches or hears. That does not change anything about the fact that things are happening.

You may have heard of the things I mentioned, however, to you those things do not seem to amount to "anything."

First try to understand why some individuals are angry and then react!

The article you cite sheds some light on the situation.      1."Around this time, Iran's ambassador to Australia presented a $32,000 cheque to the centre. It was in appreciation for the same amount which the centre had raised for earthquake victims in Iran. For some Iranian refugees in Sydney, however, this alone is confirmation that Leghaei must be in the pay of the regime." Yes, accepting a gift amount equal to funds raised for charity is a form of money laundering. This supports Australia's position regarding the deportation. The article statement is worded, however, to imply there is a push by anti-IRI Iranian residents of Sydney to create problems for pro-IRI residents.

2."In the end, ASIO accepted that its translation [of notes by leghaei allegedly promoting Islamic violence] was flawed and was ordered to pay a third of Leghaei's legal costs - about $30,000."

Suggests an anti-IRI Persian/Arabic translator (I'm guessing an Iranian-Australian) had weakened the case against Leghaei with excessive zealotry. He/she should have performed his/her duty honestly. I wonder if perjury has a deportaion penalty in Australia.

A "moderate" Yousef the bassiji hiding in Australia?

by fooladi on

"He was ordered to leave Australia after ASIO issued an adverse security assessment when he applied for permanent residence in 1995."

i.e. Australia did not want to have another 911, this time ispired by Islamic regime of Iran.

Couple of days ago we had this islamist, "Yousef", proudly declaring that he is part of a sleeper cell of the Iranian bassij force, sent to the United Kingdon to start a terrorist campaign when ordered by Iranian regime!!!!

I am sure that western security agencies would at least take a glance at a site called the "iranian.com". That is why I was so disappointed Rosie when you announced his blockage of this site...

But never mind, I am glad to say there are a few more of them still here helping the Iranian libertion cause each time they open their big mouths, and keeping yours truely entertained in the mean time :)

US should learn from Australia...

by pastor bill rennick on

There are herds upon herds of the IRI agents and nochehs roaming and grazing around and constantly mischievous in the US of A who should be rounded up and deported back to the Islamic Republic of Toilet. And as mahmoudg suggested US of A should use high precision missiles during the bombing raids of IRI to make sure collateral damage (e.g., Mullahs & supporters) is maximized!

God bless US of A!

The unscrupulous usage of the word, "spy" is wrong. IRI, usually, doesn't send spies in garbs. And I said usually.

This fellow is definitely an agent, a promoter, a sort of goodwill ambassador, etc.

All mosques are being watched closely in Western countries. This -by virtue of its functionality like churches and synagogs- is a centre for recruitment.

Now you could recruit volunteers to go knock the doors and collect money for helping war children. Or you could collect intelligence or anything else. The Australian government made a decision that was not challenged by their opposition. That means they got something on him. They could leave him stay do his thing for some reasons, or they could ask him to go for others. If the rational is not disclosed, discussing the matter seems to be an exercise in futility. Just look at Russian spys arrested lately in US. They would not have been arrested if one of them was not planing to leave US. But all these years, US knew about them things that even their poor children didn't know.

What's the problem?

He's an akhoond.  The IRI is an Islamic utopia run by akhoonds.  Australia is a decadent western nation where women can go out without wearing a manteou and chador and where they have nude beaches.  The choice is clear.  Why is he fighting to stay in Australia?  He must be an IRI spy or part of an IRI terrorist cell.  There is no other rational explanation for his desire to stay in Australia.

please tell Mahmood G. what you think about his saying that guy should get killed in a surgical attack, after watching those three kids of his in that video, before trying to convince me of anything. Even that the sky is blue.

Except for these three things: that there are millions of Iranians in exile;, that it's been 31 years; and that Iranians in Iran have been executed on false charges.

These things sound somewhat credible.  Please try to convince me of them because I never heard them before.

Rosie.

Could somebody please

explain to me why he would spend all these years subjecting himself to scrutiny under a microscope by immigration and having to become so high profile if he were a spy? Wouldn't it have been easier for the IRI to just pay his way back to Esfahan and send a different towel head to Australia to replace him?

Did you know more than three million Iranians live in exile and many who visit this site haven't been able to return home for three decades thanks to the murderous regime in Tehran?

This guy has been accused of spying and he's lucky the Australian government sent him back to Iran without jailing him.

Do you read about Iranians who are being excuted on fabricated charges such as treason brought against them by IRI?

If there's no sympathy for the guy by Iranians in exile, it is understandable!
