Russian occupation was the problem
by anglophile on Sat Jan 16, 2010 06:43 AM PSTThe British temporary occupation of southern Iran was a military necessity whereas the Russian occupation of northern Iran (Azerbaijan) was purely for territorial gain.

Bavafa - Iran is already under invasion by foreign militia
by Onlyiran on Thu Jan 14, 2010 10:50 AM PSTWhen you have foreign militia like this guy from Lebanese Hezbollah:

assassinating scientists (top photo) and closing down Mousavi's campaign offices (bottom photo), then the country is under invasion, that is unless you can come up with a better explanation for foreign militias running around armed, and with walkie talkies in the streets of Tehran.

I also forgot to add medical help ...
by Darius Kadivar on Thu Jan 14, 2010 07:07 AM PSTThe American and British Troops subsequently also brought all the medical help and vaccination to irradicate such diseases like malaria, polio and cholera that inflicted us for centuries.
Does that justify War or an Invasion ? Not from a moral standpoint.
Reza Shah was No Nazi and our alliance with the Nazi's was purely for strategic and technical aims and NOT ideological but probably he could not have maintained his neutrality to the very end.
As for WWII it was at least for us IRanians far less damageable ( both in human loss or material casualties) than an unhealthy Peace with a dubious ally like Nazi Germany.
Their "Medical Help" would have consisted on eliminating all the "Non Aryan' elements in our society starting with out Jewish and Gypsy Population who have lived on our soil ( including under the two Pahlavi Kings) as equals and fully protected by the Crown.
Even a pathetic clown like Ahmadinejad may have ended up in a Concentration Camp for not looking "Aryan Enough" were he living at the time.
پیام you cannot compare WWII propaganda News with a Free Press
Darius KadivarThu Jan 14, 2010 06:28 AM PST
This is a news in Times of War. In addition in 1941 when Britain was under The BlitzKrieg Bombs of the Luftwaffe.
This was Not just any War it was a WORLD WAR !
And Again we just lost 200 army personal in a conflict that cost the world 60 to 70 million lives and that of 6 million men, women and children by a regime like Nazi Germany merely because their leader considered them as belonging to an inferior race.
Would you have prefered Iran turn into a colony like India it never was or to have become an ally to Nazi Germany like Japan and as a result be bombed twice by an Atom Bomb ?
Again despite our military partnership with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy which contributed to building our navy and aviation amongst other things ( including positive non military contributions like in archeology and building our transport system and trains) it was a doomed alliance on the long term anyway.
At least by Stepping down in favor of his son, Reza Shah's abdication was a blessing in disguise. Maybe unjust but given out week weight on the international arena in 1941, it was probably the best thing to be done to avoid the nation to be hurt or be a setting for military conflict. Instead it was dubbed as the Allies Bridge to victory which it was since it helped the allies to deliver arms and troops to the Soviet's (who had been involved previously in a treacherous alliance with Hitler) in their fight against the Nazi's.
We as a nation were neither strong enough to impose our will upon anyone and even less the Nazi's who would have used Reza Shah in the same way they the Japanese used Pu Yi in Manchuria (see Film Last Emperor) .
Between Bad and Worse at least Reza Shah accepted the Bad solution to abdicate rather than stubbornly resist and lead to a total undermining of the Iranian state to oblivion.
Besides All WWII news reels regardless of which country in battle was nothing but Propaganda aimed at the Troops and the population who could afford to go to the Cinema in order to boost their moral but also justify the country's War Efforts.
Unlike today where even America is at War in Afghanistan or Iraq, the Press remains free to a large extent and competition is encouraged by the demand to get the accurate news to the readers or viewers.
You cannot judge an Era or an entire nation today by quoting such news out of their historical context.
They forced Reza Shah out of office because he rightly wanted Iran to remain neutral in this conflict. But they did not overthrow the regime and Reza Shah's son became King upon his father's abdication. It may be cruel and unjust from our point of view that foreign powers choose to impose their will on a neutral nation. But at least that avoided us from becoming pawns in the hands of Hitler and his World Destructive view. That is something Ahmadinejad want's to overlook as usual like he did for the Holocaust by distorting history and revising it to other aims than simply seeing Iran receive compensation over an event that took place at a time he was not even born.
In that case Iran owes compensation to all the countries of the middle east and beyond because they were once part of the Persian Empire.
Nationalism should not blind you to the point of not seeing that all these fallacious arguments used by the IRI is aimed at other means than the good of Iranians and even less of Humanity at large. Humanity which Religion is said to want to serve ...
I'd like to see what the IRI has done to deserve any compensation in Our Name only to spend that money for the Palestinian cause or the Hamas Terrorists.
It's incredible How Iranians fall victim of a Pavlovian Nationalism that makes them bark for the most petty demands when there are far more important priorities.
If Ahmadinejad and the Islamic Regime claim to speak in the name of God then they better send any compensation to the poor earthquake victims in Haiti than spill crocodile tears for Hamas Terrorists or the Hezbollah.
What will be the next IRI outrage ? To abolish the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and rewritten by Muslims simply because it was initially drafted by a Mohareb Country like France ?
Masghareh !
British war propaganda.
by پیام on Thu Jan 14, 2010 04:35 AM PST"A leader to sell his country to the nazi Germany". What a nonsense. Iran gained alot from the short friendship with nazi Germany, much more than we ever did or would from our long history with the British leeches.
Compensation ?
by Darius Kadivar on Thu Jan 14, 2010 02:20 AM PSTWould you have prefered to be occupied by Nazi Forces instead ?
Or Join the Nazis in their fatal fall like the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem a notorious anti semite and Founder of the PLO movement and Palestinian cause:
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaORsqzqV8w&feature=related
By joining the Allies ( albeit because Reza Shah was forced to abdicate) Iran's former collaboration was ignored and unlike Japan, Germany and Italy, we at least were treated with Respect as having participated in the War Effort against Nazi Germany.
Even an Iranian unit was to parade with the allies at the Victory Parade in London for having been a Bridge to Victory:
Iran in London WW II parade
Iran in London WW II parade (2)
Iran was to benefit largely during and after WWII by American and British construction and development plan which largely compensated us for all the efforts we delivered them as a nation during the War.
Do you even know the number of casualties Iran had during WWII ? 200 and all were military.
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties
We should consider ourselves lucky in retrospect given that that War cost over 60 to 70 Million deaths worldwide. Not to consider the numerous material casualties from which we were at least protected from.
What are You complaining about is ridiculous in proportion to all the human and material casualties the world was faced with in that World Conflict.
If you are so concenred by the Past ( which you always dismiss whenever there are photos of the Pahlavi's shown in the pictory section) then what do you suggest in compensation for ruining Iran's economy and an entire generation's future in a useless 8 year war during which you did not hesitate to send kids to the front to clean the mine fields (just like the Hitler's Youth) or for confiscating properties of Iranians you guys sent to exile.
In that case We demand Compensation too !
You see History Matters !
Do Your Homework before refering to it with ignorant comments.
Never again
