Mousavi has moved to first place in the TIME magazine online poll. But we have two more weeks to go until the poll closes April 29th.
TIME: Cast your votes for the leaders, artists, innovators and icons who you think merit spots on this year's list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Mir Hossein Mousavi
Age: 68
Occupation: Iranian opposition leader
Previous TIME 100 Appearances: 0
Mousavi, once a protégé of Ayatollah Ali Khomenei, has emerged as a problem for the regime he helped create. Despite losing last year's presidential election — or, as many Iranians believe, having it stolen from him — he has deftly marshaled his supporters into a political movement that has resisted numerous threats and crackdowns >>> Vote here

by Q on Fri Apr 16, 2010 09:56 AM PDTThere isn't a day that goes by that I don't get reminded of how increadibly out of touch many of the loud-mouth Iranian residents of North America really are.
Time and time again, millions of Iranians make their preferences known in votes and polls, only to be told by a small group of self-righteous fossils that they are wrong.
We have a poll here, heavily biased toward Iranians who live in the West. Outside of Iranians circles no Westerner but the most wonkish news-watchers really know who the hell Mousavi is. And against increadibly popular superstars, Iranians have made Mousavi #1 in the Time Poll. This isn't even Iran, it's people from mainly outside Iran! Even here Mousavi is increadibly popular yet denounced as a traitor in the comments!
This won't be the last time you will see mind-bending contradictions like this. The Internet does a great job of exposing phony loud-mouths from the will of the great majority of Iranians.
Ya Hossein, Mir Hossein!
You are absolutely right
by MeyBokhor_Manbarbesuzan on Fri Apr 16, 2010 02:39 AM PDTHe and figures like him are there to provoke and thereby identify real opposing elements in the society.
Mosavi is an Akhoond in Suit!
by Maryam Hojjat on Fri Apr 16, 2010 02:00 AM PDTbecause he support the Nezam e islami (IRI / IRR). I would never vote for such a charecter! He is not Irani!
Mousavi is not Khamenei but he is no Bakhtiar. Not even close.
by oktaby on Fri Apr 16, 2010 01:16 AM PDTand making another mistake won't make up for the one in 79.
Voting for Mousavi is the mistake that by analogy khar suggests we should avoid. The problem is the analogy. And Mousavi is indeed a very low standard by trait, by association, by track record and by stated love and loyalty to khomeini.

by Khar on Thu Apr 15, 2010 09:43 PM PDTI too hope that is not the case this time. If it happens we need to start a letter writing campaign to TIME and make our collective voices heard. We need to indicate to them that by not honoring our votes which is not in line with TIME's prestige it will disappoint millions of readers and most certainly damage TIME's reputation around the world and in Iran which may affect their readership. But first things first, we have 2 more weeks until the end of this voting which is on April 29th, let's make sure the number of votes speak for themselves by encouraging all Iranians and others whom we know to vote. So far we have had a great turnout let’s keep it up through April 29th!
THANKS FOR YOUR VOTE!!!
it would be funny if
by azadi5 on Thu Apr 15, 2010 09:07 PM PDTahmadinejad was also on this list, as in he would most likley come last on the list and we could all have a good laugh once mousavi wins this poll being first and ahmadi becoming the biggest loser being last.

Mr. Worcester Mo
by Khar on Thu Apr 15, 2010 04:49 PM PDTPragmatic thinking will prevail! Besides do you really think IRI was one solid structure and Mousavi was the judge, jury and the executioner? IRI never has been a solid governing body even in those days.
Back in 1979 we made a mistake and shunned anything besides our "revolutionary" dogmas, we missed a great chance on Shahpour Bakhtiar then and I hope we are not making the same mistake now! Bakhtiar was not shah we were not capable of seeing that then, but can we realize that Mousavi is not Khamenie (IRI), I hope so!
THANKS FOR VOTING!!!
First of all I votted for
by Worcester Mo on Thu Apr 15, 2010 04:25 PM PDTFirst of all I votted for this guy, thinking that it may improve his profile. Then again in 1950 Dr. Mossadegh was the man of the year, sometime later the Shah and even 'dayuus' Khoemeini. Also let us remember that this man was responsibile for many killing or at least sat around and let Khamenei and Khomeini kill thousands from 1981-9. It was suffocating leaving in Iran then with the war and these people's policy. I guess our standards are so reduced, kind of like that Persian saying _Be margeh megarand, be tab razii ast-, we have lowered our expectations. I take this guy over the Monkey President in a heart beat but this man is not going to change the constitution. We can not compromise on that. Doing that would let another asshole to become the Supreme Leader and this cycle of travesty continues.
More than 800000 now!
by Khar on Thu Apr 15, 2010 03:59 PM PDTLet see if we can reach 1 million before the weekend.
According to Mousavi, if he gets his way we'll have a government
by oktaby on Thu Apr 15, 2010 12:21 PM PDTthat is as good as Khomeini wished or promoted.
Is that what you want?

by Mehrban on Thu Apr 15, 2010 05:35 AM PDTShirin Ebadi is a fine choice, she is a gutsy lady who has done a lot for the cause of human rights in Iran and has spoken bravely against the regime of IR. I don't have a problem with her. Okay, maybe I wish she were a declared secular democrat too :-).
Lovely!
by ghalam-doon on Thu Apr 15, 2010 06:00 AM PDTOne man, at least 1000 votes!
Now the people of the world say: "Where are our votes?"
They should realize that is the Iranian way! We do anything to get ahead, no matter how other people might consider voting more than once as illegal and immoral.
Am I the only one who sees a problem here?

by yolanda on Tue Apr 13, 2010 12:41 PM PDTI heard Lady Gaga's "bad Romance" on radio and watched the video on VH1 several times.....the video and the dance moves look goofy to me.....Out of curiosity, I got on You-tube to check her music video several weeks ago.....I was shocked to find out that Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" has over 100 million hits on you-tube......it is just unbelievable! Apparently she has a lot of fans world-wide!
Sorry Mehrban - I voted for Shirin Ebadi
by MM on Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:46 AM PDTWhile Mousavi was instrumental in starting the green monement as objection to the June 12, 2009 elections in Iran, I just could not get myself to vote for someone who still believes in the concept of Velayat-e Faghih as the foundation of an Islamic Republic, and his lifelong hero is Khomeini. I would have rather voted for Lady GaGa than Mousavi who at least brings some joy with her music.
And, Zahra, his wife is also in the list which I think has shown more gall than him, at times. Nice clear picture of him, though.
Vote for

Another meaningless gesture
by ghalam-doon on Tue Apr 13, 2010 08:24 AM PDTMeanwhile people of Kyrgyzstan and Thailand brought down their governments!
But what the heck, as long as it doesn't cost me anything, I'll vote for Mousavi so he can take over Lady Gaga!
4000 people think Betty White is the most influential person in the world! (LOL)
