Simin Behbahani

Accepting Simone de Beauvoir Prize

Poet Simin Behbahani accepting the Simone de Beauvoir prize for Women’s freedom awarded to the Iranian women's One Million Signatures Campaign. "Founded by Julia Kristeva in 2008 on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Simone de Beauvoir (9 January 1908), the Simone de Beauvoir prize for women's freedom recognises the exceptional work and actions of women and men who, in the spirit of this feminist icon, contribute to the freedom of women throughout the world. Contributions to the €30,000 prize money awarded with the Simone de Beauvoir prize for women’s freedom were received from Culturesfrance, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (French national library), the Centre national du livre (national book centre) and the publisher Éditions Gallimard."

In part four of this ceremony Behbahani says the One Million Signatures Campaign has a policy against accepting money from foreign sources and therefore the cash award should be donated for any other purpose decided by the Simone de Beauvoir organization >>>

A true role model

by IRANdokht on

Congratulations to Ms Behbahani for an well-deserved award.
What a courageous lady with a big heart.

We have wonderful Iranian ladies who have paved the way for the younger generations who continue fighting social injustices in the one million signature campaign and many more fronts.

Cheers to all of them!
