Not far from the Rāmsar airport exists a community called Miāne Hāle. The beach at Miāne Hāle is one of the few places remaining along the Caspian Sea which still has some resemblance to what the beaches looked like when I was growing up in the area more than 30 years ago. A nice sandy beach peppered with sadafs (shells), Tusca (Alder) trees and a nahr (stream) coming through the surrounding hills and pouring into the Caspian. Most beaches along the Caspian Sea have been badly damaged due to rising waters and lack of proper environmental management.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent some time at the Queen Elizabeth, during a “bed in” to protest the Vietnam War carnage in 1969. We didn’t spend much time in their bed, nor participated in the crazy Quebecois student protests. Frankly, life is too short to waste on politics or slumber. Instead, during our day-long walks, I again used the phone camera on some of the architecture; while the better halves used their pricy equipment to capture Kodak moments. I hate ruining buildings with people, or diminishing people with buildings.

یک کبوتر خوشبخت مگر از زندگی چه می خواهد؟ میان چمن جولان دادن، چتر دم گشودن و احساس "امروز همه روی زمین زیر پر ماست" را تجربه کردن. البته حضور یار، لقمه ای نان و شور بهار هم بی تاثیر نیست، حتی در این سرمای کم نظیر اردیبهشت انگلستان و با وجود هم سفره شدن جمع همسایگان.

I started out life as an abstract painter and the urge to make images—any kind of images—tugs at me daily. It is often hard to find the time or the vision to gratify this urge, but that's what makes it so sweet when it does come together. The Gardens at www.ferrari-carano are beautiful all year round, but my favorite time to visit them is on a rainy day in winter or early spring. I am attracted to the Quality of light and combination of colors and textures. Melancholy drips from the air.

When after many months of planning, finally I made it to go and visit the "Nad Al Shiba", Dubai's extravagant horse racing field, it coincided with "Dubai World Cup". A multi-million-dollar mega event to attract red carpet stars not only in the fields of horse racing and betting, but a Hollywood style party: tons of cosmetics, extreme high heels, night gowns, $500 champagnes and sparkling wines and giggles as well as loud laughter.

These photographs were taken during Dec. 2011 and Feb 2012 in northern Iran revealing a slice of life in rural communities (roostas) located between Ramsar and Shahsavar. Essay starts in the town of Sadat Mahale, now Sadat Shahr on the day of Ashura. It is recommended to view the pictures sequentially. I listened to Numjoo’s Toranj as I worked on this essay.

Each Sunday, I go to buy our baguette for breakfast before jogging. Last Sunday I found Paris under snow and instead, I went hunting for pictures, including at the art installation by Abbas Kiarostami at Eiffel Tower park. I hope you can hear the silence, and see the people rediscover the streets. Snow never stays a long time in Paris.
