Iranian football legend, Ali Daei, injured in car crash; recovering from head injuries

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s state TV is reporting that the country’s football legend Ali Daei was injured in a car crash and is recovering from head injuries.

The Sunday report showed footage of Ali Daei speaking from his hospital bed and thanking people for their sympathy.

The report said Daei was injured in the ear and skull. According to state television, he is currently at a hospital in the central Iranian city of Isfahan and after three days will transfer to Tehran.

Daei was driving to Tehran from Isfahan after a game when his vehicle overturned.

The 42-year-old Daei manages the Rah Ahan football team.

He’s the former captain of the Iran national football team, and scored 109 goals in international matches, making him the world’s leading scorer. He has been a member of the FIFA Football Committee since 2007.
