Obama: Iran president's 9/11 remarks are 'hateful'

President Obama just condemned the claims of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the U.S. was somehow complicit in 9/11.

"Well, it was offensive," Obama told BBC Persia, which broadcasts into Iran. "It was hateful."

He added: "And particularly for him to make the statement here in Manhattan, just a little north of Ground Zero, where families lost their loved ones, people of all faiths, all ethnicities who see this as the seminal tragedy of this generation, for him to make a statement like that was inexcusable."

More on Obama's Iran interview later. It's part of an effort to speak directly to the Iranian people, over the heads of the Ahmadinejad government.
