The Liberal Party of Canada is calling on the government to officially designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran as a terrorist organization. “The IRGC of Iran is a paramilitary organization involved in domestic repression, military operations and support for terrorist networks, and yet Canada has not yet listed the IRGC as a terrorist organization. That must change,” said Liberal Foreign Affairs Critic Bob Rae. Liberal Public Safety Critic Mark Holland said the IRGC is known for providing material support to the Taliban and a number of listed terrorist groups in Canada, including Hezbollah and Hamas. The United States and the Netherlands already list the IRGC as a terrorist organization. “Security experts and media around the world report that a primary focus for the Qods Force of the IRGC is training Islamic fundamentalist terrorist groups,” said Mr. Holland. “In fact, the IRGC has become Iran’s most powerful economic, social and political institution. “It’s time for Canada to speak out against the IRGC and push the rest of the world to follow. We strongly urge the Harper government to make this official designation immediately.”

Don't be so naive; with or without a bandwagon
by پندارنیک on Wed Dec 09, 2009 04:31 PM PSTCanada, under any of her three, and somewhat four, major federal parties is a nesting place for millionaire and sometimes billionnaire Iranian mullahs and their associates. The amount of money transferred to Canadian banks by some IRI's officials is astronomical. This Ignatief guy is saying these kind things for a possible election against a minority Tory government. Even some Liberals in Canada consider "Iggy" a parachute leader who surfaced for a deeply troubled political party up there... way up there north.

by Onlyiran on Wed Dec 09, 2009 03:52 PM PSTyou may also want to clarify to our friends here that by "terrorist" you mean terrorizing the Iranian people above and beyond anything else. Otherwise, you will have our resident IRI lackeys jump all over you and start talking about why Hamas is not a terrorist organization and will compare that to the IRGC...etc., the end result of which will be muddying of the waters and a "pirhan osmoon" as my grandmother used to call it.
to see hypcrites like
by benross on Wed Dec 09, 2009 03:45 PM PSTto see hypcrites like Ignatieff and company jump on the bandwagon of the movement in Iran
and for those hypocrites who jumped on the bandwagon, let's start with Moosavi shall we? or better yet, let's forget about jumping from one wagon to the other, people tend to do that a lot.
as for IRGC, it is a killing machine conceived to kill or control anybody who opposes the Islamic revolution, and it did just that. It is named based on this role. now if it occasionally arrested few petty criminals, it was a side job for it. don't compare it with gendarmerie of past regime.
like any other large organization, it has a large membership and a good number of good people too. but the organization is what it is built for. by any secular standard it IS a terrorist organization.
Good Job Liberals
by azadi5 on Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:21 PM PSTit's about time Canada got a tougher stance towards these terrorists. they should have done it long time ago, when Zahra Kazemi was brutally murdered in Evin prison by these terrorists.
Is this the same Liberal Party
by Asghar_Massombagi on Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:16 PM PSTwhose current leader, Michael Ignatieff wrote in defence of torture when he was teaching at Harvard? The same party that has never raised an iota of objection to whatever Isreal has done in the Occupied Territories? Or whatever the military backed death sqauds have done in Central and South America? And why is the IRGC a "para-military" organization? (The Basij perhaps but not the IRGC) They're as para-military as the American Navy Seals or the National Guard. They are a military organization period, no less that the old Gendarmerie during the Shah. Are they involved in intrigue in the neighbouring countries? Yes but how is that different from the Black Ops conducted by the US military? Are the IRGC ruthless? Yes. Do they participate in repression of dissent in Iran? Yes. But it's tiresome to see hypcrites like Ignatieff and company jump on the bandwagon of the movement in Iran.
it took them how long???
by Ali9 Akbar on Wed Dec 09, 2009 10:33 AM PST30 years to realize this fact....
