Have you seen his cartoons? If you have how do you dare to call him a gentleman? Does a gentleman calls all the western women whore? Does a gentleman call all the western men gay or child pedophile? Dear friends, I read all these comments. I can say, except one or two of them, the rest made me feel sorry to be an Iranian with all those rich literature and culture. I was wondring, why we (Iranian)can not write and talk in a better way even if we want to use curse language. This jentelman ( Hajiagha ) is a person who donesn't want to improve himself and his life. He wants to make people feel pithy and do something for him. Every body knows that this is not going to happen. In North America, I mean out of Iran, every body is busy with his/her life. No one invited us to come here or other countries. Every one who came out from Iran has his/her reason. If we are here, it means we want to be in hear. We came to a country which its nation have their own culture. These people have lived with this culute for many years. Why we should critisize them for something that is acceptable in their culture( Gay & Lisbian ). I think, this is one of our( Iranian ) bad habit that we want conduct the other people and turn their way into our way. We expect other nations accept our belief and follow us. This is a fact that (Gay & Lisbian) issue, is not acceptable in our culture and none of Iranian people can digest that, but in this region it exists. No body in here force any body to be Gay or Lisbian. Here is their country. If we can not tolerate this issue, we can choose not to live here, but with living in here, at least we have this freedom to follow our culture and live with Iranian dignity. As far as I am concerned, as a man nagging and talking repeatedly about a bad life, sleeping in a car or shelter, have nothing to eat, having no job, no sex, is as bad as being Gay or Lisbian in our culture. As an Iranian we leaned to keep our face red by slapping ourselves ( Soorat khod raa baa sili sorkh kardan ). This man ( Haji ) wants to get a suitable job related to his ability which is not working in here. Art is not a profession. Art is art which an artist gets saticfied by doing that. After all, if that art is popular and people like that, they are going to pay for that. An artist can not force people to pay for his/her art. A real artist should have a job rather than his/her artistic life in order to support himself, and then spend his/her spare time for his art. I will write about this later.

Dear Haji if you came here 11 years ago then you came before my presidency. As you know things in Iran get worse by the day. So much has changed since 11 years ago. You'd be surprised and depressed to see the changes now. Just gasoline alone has almost doubled since last year and people have monthly rations now. So be careful what you wish for. Your cartoons are good but you don't need to back them up with your analysis. Art should speak for itself and it does.

There is a Haji in every man & woman...

Guys, lets give Haji credit for a few things;
1. He can draw decent cartoons.
2. He has the courage to share his feelings in this public forum.
3. He is exposing our true culture, our sexuality, our selfishness and our lack of cooperation and compassion for our “Iranian/Persian” community.
He is doing all of the above with his limited knowledge of the English language and his hard earned Canadian Dollars! I admire the fact that he appears to be really honest about sharing his frustrations and his day-to-day reality with us. That reality and honesty has been quite rare on this site! Thank you Mr. Javid for allowing this to happen. Here is my take on his situation;

Dear Haji, unfortunately you are not in Iran anymore and it looks like you can not go back to Iran, welcome to the Capitalism, I know that it is shocking, you are in a tough situation, no doubt about it, however most of the “Artists” in US and probably Canada are in the same “Boat”. They work hard in their fields and nobody supports them, they have to have other jobs to make a living, I knew one guy who was a song writer, well, nobody would buy his songs so he started working in a Law firm as a text editor, after 3-4 years he was a very knowledgeable assistant lawyer and he is still doing his songs…It is very difficult to be a successful (Rich) Farsi Cartoonist in the English speaking culture. I have checked your paintings also and unfortunately I am certain that nobody would be willing to pay those prices for your paintings, I am not saying that they are not good, but look at the competition! You need to come up with something unique and unusual that can set you apart from the crowd, a gimmick! Otherwise you are just like any other beginner painter.

It is a tough situation. This is called the “Human Condition” I have many friends who are truly artists, painters, poets, photographers, musicians, writers, and none of them have been able to support themselves through their art. They all have other means of support. The successful ones are the ones who can narrow the gap between earning money and doing their art. But be aware that success does not mean happiness. Here is the lesson that I have learned from Capitalism; Capitalism does not reject anything, it absorbs it all and turns it into profit, they say “if life gives you lemons you make lemonade”! So, if you want to feel better, take charge of your life, see what you have, and what you can do with it to improve the quality of your life, a lot of our problems stem from our self imposed limitations, our projections create our reality. Try to enjoy your long walks from the bus stop, a lot of people that drive to and from work everyday come home and then go jogging! Be thankful for what you have (health?) and enjoy it while you can. If you can accept your neighbors for whatever they are then you might be able to make some friendships and who knows, before you know it you will have a wife and children and then what are you going to do? There won’t be any time for “Art”!

All these years you could have EDUCATED yourself, taken a job and had a life like most of the other immigrants do.
