I like to flatter myself that some of my friends on Iranian.com are wondering where the hell I disappeared to. I used to have a pretty regular presence here and dug a lot of the people and stuff on the site. Not anymore. Nowadays unless a friend sends me a link to something, I have no idea what’s on IC. Heck, last time JJ was in town we didn’t even manage to have lunch.

It’s good that the discussion has started on what action we could be taking now. I have too much experience to get all gung ho about organizing and that sort of thing. In my experience, “Iranian” and “organization” just don’t go together – which is good and bad. Bad, because a splintered body is not as strong as a consolidated one. But good, because it allows for a lot of genuine, flexible, and creative action. I guess I’m Iranian enough to secretly prefer the latter!

On March 28, 2009, the Persian Ney master Khosrow Soltani and the Austria-Slovakia Philharmonia Orchestra will perform the European premiere of Toward that Endless Plain, Concerto for Persian Ney and Orchestra by the Persian composer and Carnegie Mellon University professor Reza Vali. The concert will take place at the historic Musikverein Hall in Vienna, Austria.
