Teenager accused of killing “Iran’s strongest man” set to be hanged

The Iranian authorities must halt the execution of a 17-year old accused of killing an athlete known as “Iran’s strongest man”, Amnesty International said today.

Alireza Molla-Soltani is to be hanged in public on Wednesday in the city of Karaj, near Tehran.

Iran Human Rights, September 19: According to the Iranian government daily "Iran", 22 prisoners were hanged in the prisons of Evin (Tehran) and Rajaei Shahr (Karaj, west of Tehran) yesterday morning.

According to official Iranian sources at least 50 people are executed since the beginning of September. Iran Human Rights had previously warned about the scheduled wave of executions after the month of Ramedan.

The execution of Mohammad Reza Haddadi, a 21-year-old man, scheduled for 9 December, did not take place. No new execution date has been announced. He is held in Adelabad prison in Shiraz, southern Iran. Juvenile offenders have previously been executed without prior warning to their lawyers.

Two Juveniles facing the death penalty will be released in days

According to Iranian lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei, Mostafa Naghdi and Amir Khaleghi who were on death row, will be released
in the coming days. The victims families on these cases issued their consent and forgiveness.

The
victim's family in the case of Amir Khaleghi asked other families in
similar situations to take the path of forgiveness path, as peace
could never come out of revenge.
In Mostafa Naghdi's case, blood
money "diyeh" had been collected through donations to help pay
restitution to the family o f the victim.

Postponed Execution for Safar Angooti

Safar Angooti's scheduled execution was postponed today for one month. Many people gathered outside of the gates at Evin Prison in Tehran to pressure the family of the deceased to grant a stay of execution to Safar. This extra month will allow flexibility to try and negotiate a pardon.

The government of Iran slammed UN Watch demand delivered by SCE's co-founder and president Nazanin Afshin-Jam testifying before a UN panel exposing Iran’s abuses and "fraudulent elections in June, brutal arrest of peaceful protesters, murder of Neda and other innocents, and rape of female and male detainees.". On 27 May, the Head of the Judiciary had halted the execution of Mohammad Reza Haddadi, which was scheduled to take place that day in Adelabad prison in Shiraz. The Head of the Judiciary had ordered Branch 17 of the Supreme Court to conduct a review of the case. However, in an interview with the Iranian daily newspaper Sarmayeh, Mohammad Reza Haddadi’s brother said that since the review was ordered, although no trial sessions have been held, the execution was nevertheless scheduled for 16 July.
