During the early 1980s, the Boston-based hardcore punk band "FU's" had an underground hit single called "Young! Fast! Iranian!" It was loosely based on the Iran-Iraq War and conflict in Lebanon. Below is the YouTube clip of the song and lyrics.
I think it was 1982 or 83, the song happened to be playing on the college radio station. Just then, my Iranian dad walked in, listened, and burst out in chuckles. My dad listening to hardcore punk rock: that's an amusing memory.
Young! Fast! Iranians!
Hey, look me over; I'm a son of Iran
And the word of the prophet's in my blood.
And you can keep on clutching your flag and your bible
'cause it's not gonna do you any good.
On the day I was born, lord, my momma cried out,
"all these infidels are really gonna pay!"
'cause I'm a holy mf'er and a yank-killin'-rocker
And I'm ready for martyrdom today!
Young! fast! Iranian!
I'm going to the border,
Never comin' back.
Going to the border
For a suicide attack.
Come on baby, tie your veil down tight,
I'm a one-way rocket to paradise tonight
We are young! fast! praise god, we are Iranians!
Hey, hit the peddle I'm a ready to roll.
There's a holy war a-callin' my name.
When i hear 'em prayin' lord, I lose all control.
It's got my trigger-finger starting to shake.
Well pass that koran, get the radio on.
It's time to listen to our favorite dj!
We got the rockin' ayatollah and he's burning it down
Twenty-four hours a day!

You can tell...
by Agha_Irani on Sat Oct 02, 2010 05:37 PM PDT...what a classy person the bavarian corporal is - he travels to France (known for its rich culinary delights) and eats McDs and Pizza Hut.
BTW Corporal they put eggs on pizza in Italy too and in case you are unaware that is authentic - pizza comes from Italy not pizza hut.
Reminds me of the story of the basiji who got off the plane (boat would probably be more appropriate) in NY went to McD, ordered a big mac and when the guy asked him: to go? He said "to noon martikkeh na to goh"

Pretty corny video clip
by Sargord Pirouz on Fri Oct 01, 2010 05:18 AM PDTPretty corny video clip selections, Darius.
I thought the Rocky Horror clip was better, but did you kids even get that movie in Frankreich? I'm guessing you didn't.
My recollection of visiting France back in the 70s is that things were sub-culturally backward. That is to say, you guys were followers in pop culture- and usually more than a few years behind, in that.
For example, I ordered a pizza in Paris in the late 1970s and they brought forward one with fried eggs as toppings! Can you imagine? But hey, now you guys have Pizza Hut- right? Now you're with it! LOL

Darius, that song got no
by Sargord Pirouz on Fri Oct 01, 2010 04:21 AM PDTDarius, that song got no play here in the States. I'd never heard it before.
Rockabilly is an American genre that generally serves a subculture, without political pretensions. Surprising that this track made the exception, especially since the SC's were looked at by some as being on the pop end of the spectrum. It's as if the record producers thought it might be able to cash in on prevailing focus of the current event. But it got no play.
Hardcore punk, on the other hand, always went out of its way toward the subversive.
FYI/ Stray Cats Storm The Embassy years 1981

Stray Cats Storm The Embassy years 1981
Fifteen man taken captive in a hostile foreign land
Scorchin' sun beaming down onto miles and miles of sand
A mideast country being ruled
By a man who thinks it's fun
To hold our people in return
For a sjah that's on the run
I think it's funny
Freedom takes money
It's a heartache and it's hard luck
Well that's tough shit
Man it's no fun
Storm the Iranian embassy
Before they start shootin' down you and me
Scourge of suits in control
Of the diplomaticness
While the nations of the world
Look on and they care less
The Soviet Union won't agree
To an economic plan
And then they laugh and march their troops into Afghanistan
Orders from Moscow
Invade Teheran now
It's a heartache and it's hard luck
Well that's tough shit
Man it's no fun
Storm the Iranian embassy
Before they start shootin' at you and me
A nation worries and reads the papers
Hoping that no-one has died
Hearin' rumours that the hostages
Will soon be tried as spies
Demonstrations on the street
Saying that the end is near
The man from New York Times on vacation
Wants to know what happened here
Agressive acts now
We want the best now
Fifteen moms crying
Is my son dying ?
It's a heartache and it's hard luck
Well that's tough shit
Man it's no fun
Storm the Iranian embassy
Before they start shootin' at you and me
