We Baha'is do not involve in Politics

Dearest friends, Alláh'u'Abhá

As an assistant to the Auxiliary Board member for Protection, I wanted to share some concerns with you. I am sure all of you, Persian and non-Persian believers, have been following the events in Iran, the cradle of the Faith. You will have seen that all media outlets have been reporting the events with fervor and zeal.

The Faith is very specific about non-involvement in partisan politics. And even though there is only one political system in Iran, yet the existing divisiveness is just like those of partisan politics.

Our goals are much loftier than any political system, or any system of voting. 'Abdu'l-Bahá, the Center of the Covenant, speaks authoritatively on this issue:

“Speak thou no word of politics; thy task concerneth the life of the soul, for this verily leadeth to man's joy in the world of God. Except to speak well of them, make thou no mention of the earth's kings, and the worldly governments thereof. Rather, confine thine utterance to spreading the blissful tidings of the Kingdom of God, and demonstrating the influence of the Word of God, and the holiness of the Cause of God. Tell thou of abiding joy and spiritual delights, and godlike qualities, and of how the Sun of Truth hath risen above the earth's horizons: tell of the blowing of the spirit of life into the body of the world.” [Selection from the Writings of 'Abdu'l-Bahá, No. 53, p. 92]

The Guardian also states:

“Yet we Bahá’ís should remember that we stand above politics. That that field does not interest us; that we attribute importance to things of the spirit, that we await salvation to come from the Faith that burns in our hearts.” [The light of Divine Guidance, Vol. 1, p 311]

Our goal, however, is concerned with the soul of the individuals and no more. In addition we must never forget that the Bahá'í community is very much incarcerated in
its homeland. However, with consistent and honest service to the community, and by standing firm according to the principles of the Faith, the community is becoming
recognized as above all politics and concerned with spiritual goals. They have demonstrated the “influence of the Word of God”. They have lived the following advice of 'Abdu'l-Bahá:

“Politics are occupied with the material things of life. Religious teachers should not invade the realm of politics; they should concern themselves with the spiritual education of the people; they should ever give good counsel to men, trying to serve God and human kind; they should endeavour to awaken spiritual aspiration, and strive to enlarge the understanding and knowledge of humanity, to improve morals, and to increase the love for justice.” [Paris Talks, p 157]

We should do the same. Consequently it is very important that we do not allow our concerns, and thus activities, to burn away the harvest of many years of sacrifice and
service.

For the sake of the friends, as well as the independence and the prestige of the Faith, I am asking you to restrain yourselves, your e-mail, your weblog postings, your
interaction with the Iranian community, and your FaceBook activities.

If you wish to engage the process, then share with all the glorious future of Iran based on Writings of the Faith, raise the call of oneness, and show restraint.

Would you also be kind enough to share this with those friends who do not have e-mail.

Yours in His service

Thank you for publicizing the Baha'i Faith.

O CHILDREN OF MEN!

Know ye not why We created you all from the same dust? That no one should exalt himself over the other. Ponder at all times in your hearts how ye were created.

Since We have created you all from one same substance it is incumbent on you to be even as one soul, to walk with the same feet, eat with the same mouth and dwell in the same land, that from your inmost being, by your deeds and actions, the signs of oneness and the essence of detachment may be made manifest.

Such is My counsel to you, O concourse of light! Heed ye this counsel that ye may obtain the fruit of holiness from the tree of wondrous glory.

- Baha'u'llah

Dear "Bilani,"

Peace from a Baha'i Friend.
I hope you get a chance to study our Teachings someday.

Baha'is or the Islamic Republic?

by Zulfiqar110 on

Why do the Baha'is sound identical in their accusations of attributing sole agency against their enemies in the same the way the Islamic Republic accuses its enemies of such agency?

The Islamic Republic commits blatant fraud in an election, the people revolt, but foreign forces and agents are implicated as instigating distrurbanes in Iran! The people who have rightfully revolted against an unjust state of affairs are nowhere given credit. It is someone else who must be pulling the strings; the people just passive, unthinking patsies at the whims of someone else. Someone writes a blog which accurately reflects a pervasive culture and mentality inside the Baha'i community and "Dr Azal" is immediately implicated as being Ravian Bilani and the agency behind this blog. How is this any different than the mullahs in Iran accusing Britian, the US, the EU and everybody else but themselves for the people's collective rage against them?

Ravian Bilani and "Dr Azal" are in fact two completely different people, but the Baha'is won't believe. Why? Because they are made of the same warp and woof as the mullahs. If "Tahirih's" conspiratorial, Baha'i paranoia - which is identical in every feature to the mullahs conspiratorial paranoia - is incapable of believing this then the webmaster can always intervene and prove it to her by concrete data. Of course, just like the mullahs, even solid, concrete proof cannot convince such paranoid conspiracy theorists of their error since such people inhabit a world where only their own flawed intuitions, or what their superiors tell them, is always correct; intuitions or hand-me-down opinions from their superiors which are always usually wrong.

Thank you Pedram

by Zulfiqar110 on

Your points are well taken.

You know, it occurs to one that the malicious and nasty manner in which the Baha'is denounce their enemies and critics actually gives enormous credibility to the enemy/critic rather than the Baha'is. Of course these people are too blinded by their own narrow minded zealotry like the mullahs and hezbollahis to actually see this.

By the way, Ravian Bilani and Nima Hazini (Wahid Azal) are two completely different people. And while Nima Hazini (Wahid Azal) has been quite unequivocal about denouncing the Islamic republic and the events of the past few weeks all over the internet, the Baha'is have have been completely equivocal and wishy-washy all the way through.

Very Sad

by Pedraam (not verified) on

I don't understand why many Baha'is are intent on "exposing" anyone who writes against their religion. It's a sad plight. OK, I'll give you credit that there are a number of Baha'i setiz who want to vilify you on this website. But it strikes me (an Iranian) as quite familiar and conventional when I read your "responses" to *anyone* who writes critically of you. Why do you feel compelled to go after people like this? Why do you do this in the name of "polemics," "apology," or what have you? It resonates with me because I have seen many instances of Islamic/Islamist apology/polemics/propaganda in Iran against Baha'is as well as other religious and non-religious ideologies. In fact, this type of attitudes is displayed by conservatives of a number of other major religions.

If your religion teaches good things (which I believe it does) and nothing that you should be insecure about, if the Baha'i community offers a perfect, utopian life which you claim it does -- then why being so fearful that a critical article somehow would have a negative influence on the Baha'i religion? When you denounce your critics (from Nigar Baha'i to this fellow here), you do exactly the things that those who veil themselves behind false identities perpetrate against you: namely you partake in a process of demonizing your enemy, degrading him and all that he stands for, and destroying him/them intellectually or ideologically. If you want to silence all your enemies or all who are critical of your religion, then what's the difference between you and those in Iran? If Baha'is are doing this right now when their number is still small, then what will they do when their number grows? In fact, I have seen the same tendency of narrow-mindedness and bigotry among a good number of Baha'is that people frequently cite for Iranian mullahs.

Nima Hazini = Ravian Bilani

"Ravian Bilani" is Nima Hazini (aka Wahid Azal). Hazini is an Azali. He is not a Bahá'í.

"O SON OF SPIRIT!
My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart, that thine may be a sovereignty ancient, imperishable and everlasting."

- Baha'u'llah

Once again "Ravian Bilani" who is neither a "Dr." or a Baha'i has posted here to see how many people he can upset with his maunderings.

After he blogs, he then logs in under other pseudonyms to congratulate himself. Every one needs a purpose; this is Mr. Bilani's, ad nauseum. Maybe he finds a strange release with this habit that gives him keeps occupied and protects him from doing greater harm.

Sometimes the best way to do something . . .is to do nothing at all. . . let us not register our discontent or display malcontent. This is precisely what he wants. Let's use our energy to find better outlets for telling people about Baha'is.

If nothing else, use an opportunity like this to post something beautiful . . .like a verse from the Hidden Words (Kalimat Maknuna).

Perhaps this is "Ravian Bilani's" way helping to spread the Message of Baha'u'llah's Teachings.

Thanks "Ravian", we will pray for you!

Zulfiqar110

Just change a few words here and there, and voila!

by Zulfiqar110 on

Although indoctrinating the Iranian Muslim nations' understanding of the Islamic Revolution and increasing their love and loyalty to it are of paramount importance, the duties of the Revolutionary Guards do not end here. The Guard members must remain ever vigilant, monitoring the actions of those who, driven by the promptings of counter-revolutionary ego, seek to sow the seeds of doubt in the minds of the valiant Muslim people of Iran and undermine the Islamic Revolution. In general, whenever Muslim compatriots become aware of such problems, they should immediately contact whatever institution of the Islamic Republic they feel moved to turn to, whether it be a Islamic Revolutionary cadre member, a Revolutionary Guard member, the Islamic Guardian Council or their own local Komiteh. It then becomes the duty of that institution to ensure that the report is fed into the correct channels and that all the other Islamic institutions affected are promptly informed. Not infrequently, the responsibility will fall on a Revolutionary Guard member, in coordination with the Islamic council concerned, to take some form of action in response to the situation. This involvement will include counselling the Muslim compatriot in question; warning him, if necessary, of the consequences of his counter-revolutionary activities; and bringing to the attention of the Revolutionary Guard the gravity of the situation, which may call for their intervention. Naturally, the Revolutionary Guard member has to exert every effort to counteract the schemes and arrest the spread of the influence of those few who, despite attempts to guide them, eventually turn against the Islamic Revolution.

The need to protect Islam from the attacks of its enemies may not be generally appreciated by the valiant Muslim compatriots, particularly in places where attacks have been infrequent. However, it is certain that such opposition will increase, become concerted, and eventually universal. The writings of Imam Khomeini clearly foreshadow not only an intensification of the machinations of internal enemies, but a rise in the hostility and opposition of its external enemies, whether religious or secular, as the Islamic Revolution pursues its onward march towards ultimate victory. Therefore, in the light of the warnings of the Imam, the Revolutionary Guards corps should keep "constantly" a "watchful eye" on those "who are known to be enemies, or to have been put out of the Islamic Republic", discreetly investigate their activities, alert intelligently Muslim compatriots to the opposition inevitably to come, explain how each crisis in the Islamic Revolution has always proved to be a blessing in disguise, and prepare them for the "dire contest which is destined to range the Army of Islam against the forces of the Great Satan".

Baha'i Non-involvement in Discussions on Iran’s Elections

by sophia on

So what's it going to be? Get involved in activist processes when it comes to petitioning parliment, local government and the United Nations for the recognition of Baha'i human rights abuses, then stay quiet when it comes to the discussion of the human rights abuses of tens of thousands or Iranian citizens?

Non-involvement in Discussions on Iran’s Elections

June 23rd, 2009

Editor’s Note: In light of recent events in Iran, we wish tobring to our

readers attention the following letter from the NationalSpiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of the United Kingdom, the highestadministrative body of the British Baha’is, on the non-involvement of Baha’isin discussions on the current state of affairs in Iran.

June 22, 2009

Dearly loved Friends

Events taking place in the Islamic Republic of Iran inrecent days have

naturally been occupying the minds of the believers here inthe United Kingdom, especially those of us concerned for the safety of ourloved ones in that land, and for the well-being of our sorely-tried brethrenand others facing oppression.

The National Spiritual Assembly would like to share with thefriends the following guidance, contained in a letter dated 4 February 2008written by the Universal House of Justice, which states that the believers’“avoidance of any form of partisan alignment and non-involvement in politicalaffairs, whether as individuals or as groups, should be the basis of theiractivities in order that they become the icons of trust of the people, ofgovernment officials and of the leaders of the nation, as was the wish of thebeloved Guardian.”

“Participation in civil elections”, the House of Justicereminds us, is permissible “provided the elector can do so without any attachmentto any political party or demonstrating any partisan inclination”. The SupremeBody continues: “But this participation is voluntary and not compulsory.

Bahá’í institutions and the Bahá’í community have nothing todo with it. The believers do not consult with each other about whom they votefor and the community does not act in any way to influence the participation ofindividuals and whom they vote for. Avoidance of any discussion on this matteris necessary and the preservation of the unity in the community of Bahá’u'lláhis, at all times, of utmost importance.”

In light of this guidance, the friends should not bediscussing matters to do with the Iranian election result and its aftermath onsocial networking sites such as Facebook, on their personal weblogs and otheronline media. Such unwise and wholly inappropriate actions may only serve toreinforce the misconception in the eyes of the Faith’s detractors that ourlong-suffering, persecuted friends in Iran have some form of political agenda orallegiances.

With loving Baha’i greetings

National Spiritual Assembly

RAVIAN BILANI

Your posts from the outset have shown your true intentions.

What are you trying to accomplish by trying to appear as a Bahai?

by introducing yourself some kind of  "an assistant".

Who are you trying to fool?

Exactly in whose "service" are you?

In addition, you seem to be out of touch with the Bahai community , its current stance regarding involving current events in Iran  and altogether dynamic nature of guidance by the elected institutions of the faith. Quoting Bahai writings from decades ago to veil your impure agenda and alterior motive simply fools no one.

By cunningly trying to portray Iranian Bahais as disinterested in the welfare and affairs of their  homelnd and the cradle of their faith is far from the truth.

The cornerstone of the Bahai faith is the principle of unity; they are therefore forbidden from any partisan activity that is the cause of division and wasteful discord in the community.

This does not in any way prevent Bahais from being engaged and productive in service to their respective communities; not to mention at the forefront of quest for Human Rights.
