Death penalty is state-sponsored murder

Today, October 10th, is the World Day Against the Death Penalty. Morbidly ironic,
Behnoud Shojaee’s execution on this day is a stark reminder of the brutality of Islamic Republic of Iran’s policies in executing its citizens on a whole host of criminal and belief-based charges.

Bahai leaders in danger of execution

Today I learned from my friends in Iran that the seven imprisoned Bahai leaders are under trial in Tehran at this time. Their trial is being held in closed court sessions and their lawyer, Dr. Shirin Ebadi, has not been permitted to meet with any of them, have access to their files, or attend their trial.

Delara Darabi: a message hanging from a crane

Delara Darabi, the young woman who had allegedly committed a murder under the age of 18 and who had received an unfair trial had to be hung in violation of international laws to which Iran has been a signatory. With all the international attention on her case, Delara had to be hung, just as all the other new negative rhetoric from Iranian officials have had to be heightened since the Obama olive branch was extended in late March.

From Camp Ashraf to Camp Nowhere

Outside their group of followers worldwide, the People's Mojahedeen Organization members inside Iraq is a doomed group these days. Many Iranians disdain the group for its perceived collaboration with Iraqi government against Iran during the Iran-Iraq War. Many others hold this group responsible for the emergence and success of the Islamic Revolution. Yet some others scrutinize and dislike the group for its militant and Islamic ideology, believing that if ever in power, they would do a lot worse to Iranian people than the IRI has.

IRI, where bones really matter

Rulers of the Islamic Republic of Iran have a real obsession with bones of dead people. 21 years after the Iran-Iraq war ended, IRI continues to bring home what is said to be remains of Iranian soldiers killed and buried on the Iraqi side. This is a customary and honorable thing to do for dead soldiers of any country, and it is really important for families of those soldiers to actually have a respectful burial and a burial site to which they can go to honor and remember their young brothers and sons who gave their lives for Iran.

Brothers Arash and Kamiar Alaei, noted for their dedicated work on AIDS issues in Iran, were accused of "soft subversion" through their western contacts, imprisoned in solitary confinement for seven months, tried in close court proceedings, and sentenced to six and three years' imprisonment respectively. News of their actual charges were only released this week and their sentences were only just announced.

Did you ever wonder where the Akhoonds came from?

Did you ever wonder where the millions of their minions and enablers in the form of Hezbollahi public servants, Sepaah and Basiji members, torturers, and plain-clothes thugs came from?

Will obama ask about bahais and dissidents?

I ran across an item in the news this morning. Someone had written a letter to Senator Barbara Boxer about the latest crackdowns and arrests on Bahais in Iran, I suppose asking her for her help. She replied in a letter which I have posted below.
