The 13th Warrior

I watched the 13th Warrior again recently, after reading Ibn Fadlans’ journey to Russia: a tenth-century traveller from Baghdad to the Volga River, it’s a great film, and material in uses from Ibn Fadlans book is reasonably accurate. Ibn Fadlan journay takes him across Iran and Central Asia then to Russia, these parts of the book are very interesting too as he recounts the various people and customs. However, its his Viking encounter that's the most famous thanks to the film the 13th Warrior.

Secret Chiefs 3

After having listened to 3 of their albums, I have to say Secret chief 3 are impressive and pretty unique. They are on the fringe of the fringe!

They are lots great fusion world music around, combining Persian, Arabic and Western music . Some of this genera are excellent, some of my favourite being Celtarabia, AfroCelt, Niaz. I think Secret chief 3 will be added to my list now.

Saracen knights of Arthurs Round table.

An interesting example how Arab world and Western world interacted in a positive and cosmic way can be found in legends of King Arthur. It should be noted that in the tales of King Arthur and his knights of the round table there are three Saracen knights, the three brothers Sir Safir, Sir Palomides, Sir Segwarides. They have seats at the round table and play their parts in the various quests, including the Grail Quest. Sir Palomides and Sir Safir are even included in the Winchester round table.

A love letter from Uranus to Gaia

I love you, I yearn for you, your green land and hillocks.

I want to run my fingers through your golden barley field hair,

kiss your ruby lips, and drink from your sweet rivers.

Gaia, my clouds expand to hold you in my arms,

My fingers turn to monoliths, to share your touch.

From the sky I ease myself into your ocean,

And we dance our dance of aeons.

You shudder when I touch your mount Davamand,

and laugh when I kiss your Mount Olympus.

Bankers Vs Rioters

In city of London, two groups of greedy opportunistic individuals have been behaving outrageously. The younger hoodie-wearing group caused over £100M damage and 2,275 of them are arrested, the older pinstripe suit-wearing group caused £850billion worth of damage, only a few are arrested. In the Bankers Vs Rioters score of mayhem it seems the bankers are winners of being the more scary bunch.

The Achaemenid ‘Persian Royal Road’ and, the ‘Silk Road’[1] were some of the ways in which knowledge and trade travelled in both directions between East and West. The spread of religious memes and technology in the ancient the world did not stop at the national borders or at the Hellespont.

Difference between western right wing terrorists and other types of terrorists

Why Right wing terrorists are always described as one person acting alone? why are they not linked to an organisation that can be held responsible? and closed?

'Arlington Road' comes to mind, an interesting film which deals with right wing terrorism
